Decided to fly out of here on my recent trip to Mexico City since its only about a 4 hour drive from home and tickets were much cheaper. Parking was sufficient and they a had a decent sized lot for those who were leaving their car. I believe its about $30 to leave your car in the lot. The airport is small and it was not busy. We checked in on the kiosks and paid for our checked bag. Upon checking in our bag, we were given zip ties to tie the zippers together. (We were told this is because the airport in Mexico City has a high crime rate and there are many thefts between the baggage handlers.) Check in and baggage drop off took about 10 minutes. Security was a breeze and we didn't even have to take off our shoes. They do have a market past security and we were able to buy snacks and drinks for the flight. The plane arrived on time and the boarding process was smooth. We did have to board the plane outside and climb up some wobbly stairs to do so. Kind of scaryyy. Employees were friendly and the airport was clean. I would definitely fly out of here again if need be. Oh and we did not have to pay anything extra for permits etc. read more

Yelp 100 Challenge! Flew into this airport on out way to El Fuerte, Sinaloa Mexico home to Zorro! It must be noted 500 pesos is what it costs for entry and exit fees, and make sure if flying out of guymas you have extra pesos too, for another exit fee. read more

We have traveled through Mexicali Airport quite a few times and have found it to be a very pleasant experience. Today was a different experience. Carmen from Volaris has no sense of what good customer service is. But this review is for the airport and that's why I gave it the 3 stars and I deducted 2 for Carmen's bad customer service skills and for the $25 travel fee. The files attack you during the warm season and you also might spot other 6 legged friends. However I have to add that I've seen both at the Arizona airport, not that that makes bugs more pleasant. read more

A lot of Americans cross the border because they find "cheaper" flights in Mexicali, but that's far from the truth. They charge $60-$70 just for checking in your luggage and add an additional $30-$40 for being a US citizen. They also sell extra plane tickets, so if you end up checking in late you're ticket most likely was already sold. That is what happened to me with Volaris. They had sold my ticket so when I got there 1 hour before flight, I was informed that my ticket was no longer available. I was forced to buy a new ticket in Tijuana for $600. I will NEVER fly from Mexico airlines again. It is a complete rip off. Mexicali airport needs to fire all of their counter personnel because the girls that work there are completely rude and unapologetic. read more

I figured I'd add the Mexicali Airport since it hadn't been reviewed on yelp. Anyway, the airport is located about 12 miles south of the commercial Port of Entry in East Mexicali. There was free fast Wifi available. They have a secured parking lot for a nominal fee. There was one restaurant but it wasn't open on the Thursday night I flew. There was a snack shop open and a small bar opened about an hour before my midnight flight. The airline staff arrived about 2 hours prior to the flight. Check-in was easy and the security line was short and quick. If you're not a Mexican citizen, an Immigration person might approach you and ask you to pay $25 for a tourist card. This happened to me, didn't like it but it wasn't a huge deal. Once you move to the gate, there's a small bar with snacks and refreshments. You board old school as there is no jetway. I flew AeroMexico to San Jose, Costa Rica via Mexico City. The flights were on time and the planes were modern with ample in-flight entertainment. I saved about $500 from what I would've paid on an American carrier in the states. If you're in the Yuma-Calexico-El-Centro area this is a viable option for travel. read more
