They are not receiving the care and kindness and thoughtfulness needed by a hospice facility. Why I chose James River? Simple. On their website they posted personal letters, written by patients and their family. From the first phone call you felt warmth, compassion and a can do attitude. There was never a question too small or trivial. Never a time when you felt you were a bother. Just the admitting kindness alone was a weight off of our hearts. Thank you Mary. Unfortunately, my loved one never made it out of the hospital and into the loving care of James River. However, when I am in need if home hospice care again, this is the only place I will choose.

Went to this "facility" today after my best friends mother was transferred from a normal nursing…read morehome to this woman's home by her abusive husband through a recommendation from his cousin. She accepted my friend's mother as a patient without having access to obtaining her medications. She has extremely severe diabetes that has caused her to enter a diabetic coma twice now. When my friend spoke with the owner of this facility she told her that her mother "would be fine overnight without her insulin" which was the first red flag. She scrambled to find any extra insulin her mother had and brought it to her so she would not go without it. the next red flag was that she immediately told her that her mom was being placed on hospice and would most likely die soon even though no one at any of the real nursing facilities or doctors at the hospital have brought this up at all. She then told her if she did not come get a medical power of attorney document notarized within 48 hours she would be kicked out. again she accepted this patient without that being a prior requirement before taking her in and it is week of 4th of July on a wednesday. my friend has had no say in any of this and works a full time job and we live an hour away from where she is located now. thankfully i was able to find a notary that could meet us at 7:30pm this evening so that she could get this paperwork done. She is charging $5,000 a month to care for her. apparently her only employee quit yesterday. there are no doors or bed alarms in the patients bedroom which is just a giant living room attached to their home and has threatened that if her mother gets up at night she won't be allowed to stay there which makes sense if you aren't equipped to care for memory loss patients or any patients with a high level care need. She knew we were coming out this evening and when my friend lifted the blanket covering her mother i noticed her diaper was so swollen it looked like she hadnt been changed all day. the woman who runs this facility just gives off bad vibes in general and after seeing what care shes receiving for $5,000 a month i am extremely concerned. apparently this woman is an RN. i have not looked up her license yet but i have worked as a CNA + med tech for 12+ years in various different settings including hospitals, in home care, and long term facilities and nothing about her home is comparable to the care that her patients should be receiving. our plan is to get her out of there as soon as possible and back to the facility she was at where they had the staff and ability to properly care for their patients. Over the past two days that she has had to interact with her the only reassurance she has given is that "most people die quickly when they get there so she won't have to deal with overcrowding" while also telling my friend that all the sudden her mother is going to die soon. Her husband has multiple adult protective services investigations open against him right now for abuse and leaving her mother to die alone in her bedroom multiple times where she has been put on life support when her daughter finds out and EMTs arrive and take her to the hospital because of the condition she is in. Please for the love of god do not send your family members here if you have any other option

Torie is kind, efficient, and trustworthy, in everything she provides to her patients. Torie truly is a special person. I would highly recommend her for a caregiver any day! The whole family felt Pop was in good hands. Oh, and we cannot forget Moose. Moose is so sweet and provides comfort alongside Torie and her family!! Even though Pop is no longer with us, we will never forget the care that was provided to him in his time of need. God bless you Torie!

First of all, I requested to be referred to PT following other medical treatment…read more I had made enough progress to be discharged, with my original PT, Shannon, in my opinion (scored 87/100 on my progress exam. Goal was 65.) I was transferred at about week 7 to Angelica B. Angelica B. was completely checked out of my treatment and just made me do the same stuff every day while she paid more attention to her other patients. "Umm, do your stretches. Do your squats like last time." She refused to discharge me multiple times over multiple days in an attempt to continue charging my insurance. I politely asked several times to be discharged and was refused. I stated continuing to attend PT would severely affect my job (the job that gives me the insurance she was charging). She still refused. It got to a point where she refused so many times it was getting awkward. Ella and the others were staring or pretending not to listen. But no one said anything to help resolve the situation. On my last day, I came in during lunch, before my appointment and told her my sessions were over, and to please discharge me. I overheard her asking Emily if there was a way to charge my insurance for my "visit". They chatted about several ways this could be possible. The "visit" in question was me coming in (as a courtesy) to tell them I would no longer be coming in. Due to previously being refused discharge. Multiple times she tried to get me start my session that day or get me to do something she could charge my insurance for. "So are you gonna start on the treadmill?" After I had just told her I'm no longer coming in and to please discharge me. Before I left, she stated she would update my at home workout plan (so she could charge my insurance). She never sent it. Not that I would use it as I'm fine now. She also stated she would cancel all my other appointments. I left several voicemails after receiving a reminder about my uncancelled appointment. The call was not returned. I called one last time from a different number and Ella picked up. My number was clearly being screened. She finally cancelled my last appointments. Sorry that your office could not charge me $50 for a "no show". I was polite during all of these interactions despite the outright refusal to discharge me, someone who was voluntarily referred in the first place. It was extremely awkward and so obvious that they just wanted to charge my insurance any way they could. When I was walking out after finally being discharged, Emily told me to ring the bell. I just walked out because it didn't feel like anything worth celebrating after my interactions. Angelica laughed as if I couldn't hear her. I was ready to write a good review based on my first 6 weeks with Shannon and the progress I made. But the last two weeks here were phoned in by Angelica and she made it so awkward and uncomfortable for me. I had pleasant interactions with everyone leading up to asking to be discharged.

I worked with Emily and Angelica during my sessions and they are simply the best! They've cheered me on every step of my recovery journey and made the whole process feel less like "work". Not only do they bring so much knowledge and encouragement during each session, but they've also given me at-home exercises and tips so I can keep building on what I've learned. I'm so grateful for their support, positivity, and genuine care! It's made all the difference in my recovery. Facility is clean and entire staff is friendly! Happy to be done, but sad I won't see them every week! Keep up the great work guys! You truly are helping a lot of people! Y'all are the best!

This facility took excellent care of my mom. They welcomed her with signage and treated her with…read moredignity and respect. The lobby is clean and spacious, beautifully appointed. There's a movie room for the residents with puzzles and games as well. The common room held craft programs, musical guests and other activities. My mom's suite had two rooms and a bath, with plenty of closet space. It was comforting to her to be able to furnish her space with her own furnishings and pictures. The staff was extremely accommodating and warm. The nurses were gentle and empathetic. It always difficult when your loved ones decline and eventually pass, but the people here made the transition easier to endure and process. Their dedication and care gave us peace of mind.

She had dementia and they made sure all het needs were met. She loved the food and the caretakers as well. I could call at an time and they would check on her for me. The entire staff wad wonderful to us. I felt safe for her to be there!! I am so glad we moved her there!!
