From the very first appointment they were thorough, kind and informative. I was there weekly from Feb 2024-Feb 2025 for Speech and Occupational therapy. It was hard work, and I wasn't sure if I would function in a normal life again, but they worked hard with me and now I can do the things I was doing before. They altered a lot of material, and even came up with new material for me to specifically target my symptoms and my unique mental processing. I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for CNS. I highly recommend them. Lisa Morrow- Virginia Beach, VA

From 2004-2006 another local neurologist was treating my daily migraines and many other symptoms from the (as of that time undiagnosed) permanent brain injury that I received in the dog attack. This other neurologist's ONLY treatment for me was Vicodin, which was not helping me, it was only making it worse. He did not listen to me nor do an MRI. At the time that I first went to CNS I was barely able to speak in full sentences. Each morning would start with me being sick, from waking up with a migraine, so I could not be around bright lights w/o extreme pain in my head. I had a severe balance problem causing me to fall down three flights of stairs fracturing my spine in several places. I could go on, but you probably get the picture. Dr. O'Shanick listened to me. He properly diagnosed me and helped me with O.T., Speech Therapy, got me off of the Vicodin and on proper migraine therapy. After two years of daily migraines and not wanting to leave the darkness in my home, I finally started to function again! I could remember words when I would have a conversation with my kids. The migraines slowly went away, thank the Lord! I stopped falling, learning how to deal with my balance being 'off'. In short, thanks to Dr. O'Shanick, I actually feel 'human' again. That can only be understood by someone who has suffered a brain injury. I do still have ringing in my ears, but unfortunately that is permanent. And hey, considering how bad I was, I'm doing pretty great! And I give all the credit to Dr. O'Shanick and his staff. Martinea Mease

Our families noticed a change in his behavior and were happy to see him less clingy. We worked with them in and out of the office and that was so helpful when we had questions and needed more help at home. They offered solutions and prompt responses via email and guided us on how we can help me at home. Separation anxiety is not only challenging for the child but, IMO also for parents esp. moms, or whoever spends the most time with the child. In this case it was me, and I def. learned a lot in terms of how to help him during those transitional phases although they were hard for me but Becca and Courtney's guidance put me to ease and helped us incredibly! All the staff on site is helpful and always willing to help! I would recommend this location for anyone seeking therapy services for their kids.

This is something I've never had to worry about with Emily (OT) and Ginger (Speech) at Southeastern Therapy for Kids (Near West End location). I have taken my 3 y/o son here for the last month or so and couldn't be more impressed. My son started seeing Emily for OT and is already making process with sensory-related tasks/eating. It's been incredible to be able to see changes already. In addition, my son recently started with Ginger to help further his progress in oral muscle development and speech. I have no doubt about the progress we will soon be seeing from his work with Ginger as well. What makes Southeastern Therapy for Kids even better is that not only do I love them, so do my kids. Both Emily and Ginger are kind, FUN, and know how to quickly build a rapport with a child. I've had my son come out of sessions with Emily in which she's got him to engage in different foods by utilizing play. She's even let him paint her face with yogurt. Just today, Ginger brought a speaker out into the waiting room to have a Baby Shark dance party...not just for my kids but for her and anyone else that will join in. They include my son's twin sister in sessions often, which is so incredibly thoughtful on their part because at three years old, it's hard to explain why her twin brother gets to go "play" while she stays with mom. Emily and Ginger work together and complement each other the way any team should. They work to meet any needs or concerns you may have and truly treat you like family. To be honest, I almost never write reviews but with Southeastern Therapy for Kids and what they've done for us in the matter of just a few short weeks, how could I not?

This failure represents a serious breach of duty and may have directly contributed to his death. 2. Lack of Proper Staff Direction and Oversight Based on my observations and interactions, staff appeared to lack proper direction, supervision, and adherence to appropriate medical response protocols. This created an environment where urgent medical needs were not handled appropriately. 3. Failure to Communicate with Family For four (4) days following my father's death, I was unable to speak with any responsible authority at the facility who could explain the events surrounding his passing. This lack of communication is unacceptable and demonstrates a failure in both professionalism and regulatory compliance. 4. Lack of Urgency, Concern, and Accountability There appeared to be no appropriate sense of urgency or concern for my father's condition, either before or after his death. Additionally, no clear explanation or accountability has been provided by the facility to date.

Were it not for her caring and in depth knowledge, I would have just slipped through the medical cracks; as I have for so very many years, and continued to have the trouble I had. My Therapist figured out that the crystals in my ears were severely spread out through multiple passages in my ear canals. Once she fixed those (which took weeks) she discovered huge problems with my balance. Through her patience and testing, I've not only improved, but I have no more Vertigo! This is all she does, this Therapist deals with Migraine and Vertigo, nothing else. I have been (and continue to go) going for over 2 months now, I am able to walk without stumbling, or bumping into walls. My Therapist found out that the 2 nerves in each ear were devastated, due to a medicine I was given back in 2012 to save my life. Sometimes the cure comes at a price, that price was my balance. Thanks to her, I will be seeing specialists regarding my ears and my Migraines. My Therapist also evaluated the 3 types of balance that we all have; eyes, legs, and inner ears. All three of mine have been affected in one way or another, however my eyesight balance has made substantial improvement as well as my leg balance. I am truly grateful to all of the friendly and helpful staff at Sheltering Arms. They are kind and caring people, who give to people like me, far more than they realize. I am never tasked with anything that is beyond my reach, and it is a safe environment to get stronger. My Therapist is cognizant of all of my limitations both there and at home, and she has made me feel comfortable and safe telling her anything regarding my health. She truly has gone the extra mile for me, as far as her knowledge, and her innovations to my therapy program. I would recommend this facility to ANYONE! I would recommend my Therapist to people suffering with Vertigo. She doesn't work miracles, you have to do the work, however she does help and works very hard to make you feel respected, and treated with dignity as a whole person not as a condition.
