Do you wear black? Do you hate your mum and dad? Do you actually secretly love them because they feed you and keep you in pocket money? Do you think looking sullen is a lifestyle? Do you rawk? Do you have like, totally political opinions and stuff? Then try Afflecks Palace? For all your middle class gothic needs yah?

Afflecks Palace is a whirlwind for me. I always get lost and I have been there quite a few times! What ceases to amaze me is the amount of attention it attracts. Sure, people say it is weird and unusual. Yes, it is but with that comes originality. I must admit I do love my chain store shops in Manchester and when I first visited Afflecks, back in the day I was like 'eeuughh' But when I came out I was shocked. Not by the X rated bondage shops but the fact that I loved it! I have been back since many times, and bought many things such as tutus, UV paint, Cd's and posters. There is a large array of things to choose from and if you do visit Manchester then please go to this place. It is wonderfully weird!

Afleck palace in Manchester is sooo funky. Great deco, really quirky and vibrant. Sells clothes, jewellery, piercings, tattoos, hairdressers and a couple of cafés. Absolutely must see if your ever in Manchester.

Afflecks palace is a super block of all things alternative and slightly out there, it despises all things that the main highstreet perpetuates. Sadly though recently a series of council cut backs have meant that the amount of market stalls and shops within afflecks have fallen through the roof, nowadays when you go in the shops can be far and few between. In what time there has been though, afflecks has fought to find its feet again and hopefully will go on for many more years. The stalls are interesting and stock everything from extreme piercings and boots through to ghetto blasters and hte most vintage gear you've ever set eyes on. At the top floor is an elusive cafe that does fantastic classics and cups of tea its tables are always full of the alternative crowd. If you like to stand out in a group afflecks hosts every bit of eccentric wear any punk, mod, goth or emo could ever want. If you've got a fancy dress part coming up afflecks has the best selection of cooky items to piece together that pirate costume or whatever.

Great spot for shopping. Lots of treasures. We loved all of the different businesses in building across 4 floors.

This is a slightly small branch in the Lowry Outlet in Manchester, they do seem to have made effort to improve it slightly such as with a nicer, slightly more modern and welcoming sign, and I presume this is a new addition for this store especially since it was last reviewed in what is nearly four full years ago. The staff didn't seem to stand out in anyway. I don't normally like Outlet stores and most of the fashion here was nothing great and more out of date rather than modern, which people would want to wear and the prices were just average sale prices and didn't stand out in particular, so I sadly feel this store does deserve a single one star rating.

Seriously, the people who run this place must have used folded up pieces of paper, a hat and blindfold to help them come up with their business strategy as the links between the things sold here I'd describe as tenuous at best. Mooching around Rowfers I've come across jewellery, stripy tights, piercing, oil burners, candles, mirror balls, ornaments, bandannas, makeup, badges, studded belts, hair dye and incense. Luckily I'm thinking of throwing a stripy tight and bandannas party and don't have any electricity in my tree house. There's going to be a guess the smell competition where you get the chance to win a pair of really baggy trousers but the loser will have to wear a badge that says "I'm incensed."

As a regular shopper in Afflecks and particularly Rowfers i can say that the previous review by…read moreJames B accurately describes the products available in Rowfers. Though why he has to sound like such a childish, sarcastic know-it-all is beyond my grasp. I'm old enough to remember Afflecks opening in the 80's and Rowfers has been there most of the time since then. So i'd say their "business strategy" was working just fine for them. As for links between products being tenuous at best? Poppycock! If James B actually took time to look around the shop properly he might recognise two product ranges; 1) Alternative clothes and accessories. 2) Fairtrade crafts and home-wares. Thus the products James described, Jewellery, Stripy tights, piercing, bandannas, make-up, badges, studded belts and hair dye all fit into range (1) and perfectly compliment the large range of alternative clothing they primarily sell which james conveniantly omited from his review and causes the review to be inaccurate. Oil Burners, candles, mirror balls, ornaments and incense sit nicely next to their african wall masks, crystal balls, crystals and windchimes for product range (2). I wonder if James would be equally confused in TK-Max as they also sell both clothes/accessories and home-wares? Although i respect James has the right to review shops and express his opinions i just found his review lacked accuracy and was overladen with un-needed sarcasm. On the plus side i think Rowfers sells some great stuff, often hard to find in the high streets and theyre cheaper than the competition (even their rivals in afflecks such as Sohos and Extreme Largeness). The staff are always friendly and chatty without the hard-sell and the music in the shop is always weird and wonderful. On the down-side i'd say the stock is poorly lit, the location can be hard to find for those who aren't regulars to afflecks and often the sizes are a little on the small size. this might be ok for the hordes of teenagers who regularly flock to afflecks but for those of us with a middle aged spread- we need a bit of give!
