My son has a 20 gallon aquatic tank with 2 good size turtles that he's been neglecting to clean after we remodeled and it was moved to a corner spot. The tank has gotten extremely dirty & gross to say the least and we realized we needed help! I called up Affordable Aquarium based on the Yelp reviews and talked to Andrew. I told him honestly that we have a turtle tank that's filthy with things growing in it and could send him a picture first. Andrew was not a bit hesitant and said there's no need to see a photo of it before he comes out. I asked and agreed with his fee and he asked me further questions about the size of tank, age, filter...etc. so he can be well prepared for the appointment. Andrew was very acommodating and was able to fit me into his already busy schedule right away. He arrived punctually with all the stuff needed for my job. I was very impressed with Andrew - he's professional, efficient, personable and caring for the pets (our turtles), the tank and our floor/furniture. He thoroughly took out and cleaned the contents (floating rock..etc) in the tank, scrubbed down/scrapped all the gross yucky stuff along with whatever bugs in there. Long story short when he's done our tank is restored to a clean tank with clear water & happy turtles!! Something we haven't seen in years!? Thank you Andrew! Andrew and his crew were amazing. To say that I neglected my red eared slider's 50 gallon tank was an understatement. They replaced the filter, pads and sponges of the Fluval fx6 and tightened the loose hose clamps. The water was so murky, it took several extra water exchanges to get it looking pristine. Our fish tank is quite large (125 gallons) and had been neglected for a long time. It was filled with mysterious, non working equipment and algae-covered rocks and it just looked a mess. There was no way it could support fish. We called Affordable Aquarium after seeing the awesome Yelp reviews posted here and asked Andrew to take a look at our tank. He asked about our aquarium preferences and set our expectations for the work he would have to do to get our tank ready for fish. We agreed to a reasonable price and Andrew and his colleague arrived early two days later (our tank is in a retail store and we asked him to come before the store opens). They had their work cut out for them: remove almost all of the water, disassemble the equipment, figure out what equipment was worth saving and what would have to be replaced, clean all the filters, rocks and habitat - they were at it for several hours. Andrew recommended African cichlids to us because they're feisty (which we like) and come in interesting colors and patterns. Andrew brought the first set of fish to us and made sure they were well-acclimated to the tank. He taught us how to take care of them and how to introduce new fish - he's helping us to be more self-sufficient. Several weeks later we've already had our first emergency - our old filter stopped working. Andrew talked us through the emergency and came to the shop the next day just to make sure everything was okay. Andrew demonstrated that he's just a phone call away and committed to helping us keep our tank healthy. He has quickly become an indispensable member of our team. The tank is located in our fly fishing store and it's good at keeping kids busy while their parents are shopping. I called around other places until I landed on Affordable. They had me at Hello. Well, not exactly at Hello, but certainly a few seconds later when they told me their rates. Their name is apt: they are affordable--much more than their competitors but that doesn't mean they do a cut-rate job. No siree. In fact, after spending about 20 minutes talking to Andrew, I'm quite sure that he is really the "Incredible Mr. Limpett" in disguise. For the uninformed, that's the classic Disney film where the lead character--Don Knotts--turns into a fish. OK, so while Andrew may or may not actually be a fish, he certainly qualifies as their best friend. Why? Because this guy cares about them. And he knows his stuff. After hearing him talk about fish, their habits, their diet (including what they REALLY do and don't need) their emotional life and everything else you could ever want to know about creatures that heretofore I thought were not all that complicated, I was duly impressed. Just as important, he goes out of his way to make sure the job is done, no matter how small the tank or "insignificant" the fish are. I truly got the feeling that I was being treated just as well as the CEO client in Hillsborough with his $50k fish tank filled with Electric Blues, African Knives and Green Spotted Buffers. (OK so I made up that client but from Andrew has said, I'm sure he has "bigger fish" than ours as customers.) This level of caring is important to me, not because I'm personally all that into fish , but because my 93-year-old father, who suffers from dementia, is. He loves his two little fish. They're not exotic and/or expensive but you would never know that from the way Andrew treats them, making sure their home is all that a fish could want or need.
