Affordable Events is a significant part of why my wedding this past weekend was a success. I first met with them over a year ago in preparation, booked my date with them then, picked out all of my details (linens, plates) in the summer, then shortly after that meeting we received an outline of my event, which they executed perfectly three days before my wedding. My wedding was at a private residence. Affordable Events has a great inventory and their packages are mostly all-inclusive. I did add on additional lighting, the generator, and the restroom trailer, to ensure we had everything we needed. Their business is a one stop shop, which was easier for us as opposed to booking six different vendors. They allowed us to make payments whenever we wanted with no hassle. They also did a site survey to ensure everything would line up as we envisioned. On the day of set up, the team was communicative, knew what they were doing, set up everything as intended, and they were flexible when I had a last minute change in the number of tables I wanted - they took the extra table with them so we didn't have to worry about it. Pick up was even simpler, Scott called when he would be picking up, they picked up everything and we didn't even have to be on site. Honestly, I don't understand these negative reviews. Our experience was basically seamless. Sure, Scott is a strong personality, but he made sure we were taken care of, the service was quality, and even when I called out of the blue, he was responsive. BEWARE!!!! Scam artist!!!!!! Run FAST!! I would have spent double on rentals to never have to deal with Scott. Seriously, no matter what, FIND ANOTHER VENDOR!!!!!! My ONLY regret from my entire wedding was hiring Affordable Events. Long story short- we land in Maui on our honeymoon and immediately my phone is ringing. It's my rentals vendor SCREAMING and SWEARING at me, multiple voicemails, 10+ text messages, threatening to sue me. He called my wedding planner, my father, my mother in law, and my uncle- screaming at all of them, swearing at them, threatening them, and threatening to charge a credit card without authorization. Every brides dream, right? All this because he said there were scratches on his tables that were 100% covered in linens, and he had NO PHOTOS of the tables beforehand. The funny part was, when dealing with Scott, I just KNEW he was going to pull something like this. Him coming back for extra money was no surprise... Scott was the epitome of a snake oil salesman from day 1. I thought he was a little weird, push-y, and full of himself, but I figured whatever- he rents nice stuff, he's right down the street from our venue, he's a little cheaper than the big guys, let's just go with him.... First reg flag when I should have known to run. It's 9 months before the event, so there was plenty of time. He called me 24 hours after I was in his showroom saying someone else was asking about my exact rentals for my exact date, so he needed a contract and a check NOW. I rolled my eyes (I've worked in sales for years and I knew it was a load of crap) but did it anyways. When COVID restrictions were up in the air and we thought we may have to cut down on rentals, Scott could not have been more rude, cold, and flippant to us and let us know we were responsible for the full amount of the rentals for the full guest list no matter who we were able to invite. When we finally did decide on an amount, it took at least 2 months of chasing him down for an updated floor plan (funny how he was pressuring me in 24 hours but now was un-reachable). He was actually incredibly rude to me when I asked if we could talk at 3:30 one afternoon and he said his business hours were "10-2 no exceptions".... I couldn't believe I was being treated so poorly by THE MOST expensive vendor out of the entire wedding. I have never given so much money to anyone in my entire life (outside of my college tuition), and I was treated like actual garbage. He could not have been more unprofessional. Now comes the weekend. His coffee machines didn't work, his speakers didn't work, he sold us about 10 things we DID NOT need and he knew we would never need. I asked multiple times about renting another fridge and he said he didn't have one, but then that weekend he said to my dad "hey if you get me a 100 dollar bill I'll get you another fridge up here". SKEEZE BALL. He sells you to go with him over the big guys because he's right down the street and can come fix anything with no problem. We wanted to adjust the $1000 stage we had rented and take a small section out. Scott refused and told us to figure it out ourselves. Fast forward to my honeymoon and the incessant calls. He called my entire family at 6:30am saying he needed to file a law suit within 48 hours. He also attempted to charge a credit card (unauthorized) with one amount, but his voicemails were threatening to sue for a completely different amount. After calling my dad my mother in law my uncle and my wedding planner, talking to them all, and realizing there's no WAY he can move forward with this with 0 evidence, we all ignored him and waited it out. Shocker- I come home 2 weeks later with nothing in the mail. He was never going to sue- just looking for an extra buck. He must do this to everyone and figures he'll get a check out of 1 or 2 people who are scared. If you've given him a check for "damages" after he's threatened to sue, I'm very sorry you've been played by this SCAM ARTIST. DO NOT EVER HIRE AFFORDABLE EVENTS read more

Scott is about as unprofessional as they come. Pay more for another vendor if you have to.

I was appalled at how unprofessional the owner of this company (Scott) was. We hired Affordable Events to do all of the rentals for our wedding in New Gloucester, Maine because our venue (The Chandler House) had worked with them in the past. My husband and I live in Boston, so we made appointment to drive all the way up to their show room in Harrison, Maine one Saturday and we arrived to find NO ONE there. What is worse is that I had literally called the day before and confirmed the appointment over the phone just to make sure given it was such a long drive. This was just the START of Scott making up excuses and literally lying to our faces. I could go on and on about all of the things that they did to cause this negative review - but I will focus on just a few large things that went wrong. Throughout the year during planning after we had booked their services, the team at Affordable Events was impossible to get ahold of. I would call and be told that someone would call me back, then no one ever would. I would email to have it go unanswered for MONTHS. This was especially frustrating because we couldn't do something as simple as pick our napkin colors and they kept sending us invoices with the wrong things included (talk about making someone worry about whether or not the right things will be arriving at your wedding!) The worst of it came just a few days before the wedding. They asked for a number of extra charges to be added at the last minute, then didn't show up when they were supposed to set everything up. When they did finally show up (two hours of us waiting later..) I asked if they could set things up where I wanted them and Scott came up with excuse after excuse why they couldn't place things in certain places. After he left the owner of the venue came by and saw I was unhappy and told me that they had set things up there in the past the way I wanted a number of times before (and that Scott was aware of it). To lie to a customer multiple times is just not acceptable to me. It was excuse after excuse: "our trucks broke down" (got that one twice), "was sick", etc. Horribly run business and if it wasn't for our venue and AMAZING caterer (Blue Elephant) things would have not turned out the way we wanted and were paying for them to be done. read more

Complete package service! Start to finish we were treated like family (well loved family!) Scott and Necole made sure everything was absolutely perfect for our wedding. They personally oversaw each the of the process. They offered advice, listened to our ideas, and helped us create the perfect backyard wedding. We can not recommend them highly enough. We feel it is important to share the facts of how we were treated by Scott at Affordable Events who hung up on my husband after saying "I consider this contract cancelled," when we reached out to him asking for a partial refund of our nearly $4000 deposit since we have to cancel our wedding due to Covid-19 and provided 5 months' notice. We had a wedding planned for July 2020 and decided to work with Affordable Events to postpone the wedding one year, but as things currently stand with Covid, we don't want to draw together a large group of people from all over the country and the world, and it will be challenging for all of our relatives to fly, or travel to the United States this summer due to new variants of Covid and current travel restrictions. I have reached out to the Affordable Events since this call and asked staff to help assist us with a partial refund of our deposit, but I still haven't heard back. Needless to say, everyone is struggling financially due to Covid-19 and we hoped that we would be able to work something out with Affordable Events because $4000 is a lot of money for us. read more

We heard about Affordable Events through our venue and event coordinator in August 2018, and I reached out to them for a quote. Scott, the owner, was incredibly pushy and aggressive. He was insistent we sign a contract and pay 50% upfront by 5 pm that day or we were out of luck and another bride was in line to get our spot. It was a Monday, I was at work and couldn't reach my fiance to even discuss the package and our options. I told Scott we could not afford the package he offered us (it was TWICE our budget), and rather than try to work with us, he tried to intimidate us from going with his competition with MULTIPLE horror stories. After talking with my fiance, we decided that we wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with him or his company in planning our wedding. I called and left Scott a message saying that we were not interested. I immediately reached out to the venue and coordinator to let them know of our horrendous experience so they could warn other brides. FUN FACT! Today, 8 weeks later, Scott has the audacity to reach out to me to see if I was still interested in the package we discussed and they had JUST ONE SLOT LEFT for my wedding weekend. Funny--because 8 weeks ago, if I didn't give him 50% down payment by 5 pm that Monday, I was out of luck! Fellow brides and grooms, check out his competition. He won't give you an itemized list so that you can't do a direct comparison of item for item, but I can promise you, "Affordable Events" is anything but and it's not worth dealing with this BULLY! read more

The man I spoke to was INCREDIBLY rude and insulting. I spoke with the owner on the phone about an affordable caterer (I am looking for a caterer around $15pp) since he works closely with local caterers. He told me that NO caterer in the state of Maine will be under $40pp and "if I am looking for a budget wedding I should try ordering from Amatos" I was insulted by his tone of voice and wording... and his inaccurate information. I have spoken with several caterers in Maine who are in the $15 range. i will be taking my rental/equipment and planning business elsewhere! Brides Beware. I'm sure you have read some questionable reviews of this business already so please heed the warnings. I only used this company because I was in desperate need of farmers tables for my wedding- which were very difficult to find. I met with Scott initially and voiced my concerns about other reviews saying communication was terrible and other such complaints. He assured me that they were "old reviews" and that he would be 100% attentive. This is false- which I honestly knew from meeting with him. Scott is aggressive, rude, and condescending. If you feel that you still want to book this company for rentals I would request to work primarily with Nichole- as she is far more understanding. I feel I could go on forever about my experience but I will stick to a couple important issues. 1. Scott will not communicate with you unless it is to get a payment. Don't even try emailing him because he is apparently incapable of such a thing, and if you do speak on the phone with him he will bully you. After a very important miscommunication (which I am not placing blame on anyone for) He left me one of the rudest most condescending voicemails I have EVER received- the day before my wedding. Next - the quality of rentals is terrible. His "custom made" farm tables were falling apart leg by leg and we could barely move them for fear of them breaking. Every single item we ordered besides possibly the silverware came FILTHY. I have attached a few pictures I took while my entire family raced around for hours scrubbing the chargers- glasses and tables so we could safely feed our guests. I honestly hate writing reviews like this and get no pleasure from it- but please, if you are a bride planning your wedding- do not book this company.
