I found Mark J. Hajec by googling "affordable tax preparation." His business showed up with a website at http://www.affordabletaxprofessionals.com. It had six Google reviews starting 8 months ago all rating 5 out of 5 stars. So I emailed him and got a prompt reply. I made an appointment to come in to see him on October 11th, 2016. The office was just an empty small room in a shared one-story office building on the north side of Hollywood Blvd, just east of the Circle. Mark explained that he normally did not meet with clients in person and the room was just for the rare occasion. I had several tax years that needed to be filed and the preparer would have to call the IRS to get a copy of the last return so Mark asked for a deposit the equivalent of his fee for one complicated individual tax return or $395. I wrote him a personal check for that amount which was promptly cashed on the same day. He said he would call the IRS right away. However, several weeks later all my emails to him received no reply. Phone calls to both his listed office and cell numbers got voicemail. Finally on the third week I emailed an ultimatum to him that he needed to contact me right away. Finally there was an email from him approximately three weeks later on November 2nd saying that he was waiting for me to send additional information. It sounded to me like he had not done any work at all including contacting the IRS for a copy of the last return. I emailed him asking about this and he claimed that he did call the IRS and waited on hold for an hour before giving up. Since the matter was of urgency I told him I needed to go see another preparer to get things done immediately. I was able to locate another local preparer who called the IRS right away with me on conference call and got all the information efaxed. I emailed Mark about this and requested a full refund since he had done no work. I have not received any reply since in spite of repeated emails requesting a response one way or the other. read more
