Many years ago, when our daughter was born, we went to a lawyer and had him prepare a Will. I kept hearing that we should have a living trust, but we were concerned about the cost and the complexity of the process. Fast forward to today -- our daughter just had a baby and we started thinking about doing a trust, since our Will was no longer sufficient. My wife and I had been procrastinating in getting our estate planning in order, but after encouragement from our financial planner, we knew we needed to get the ball rolling sooner than later. As luck would have it, my cousin and her husband got their estate planning completed recently and had only great things to say about Robyn and her amazing Estate Binder. They referred us to Affordable Wills and Trusts and the rest is history. The whole Estate Planning process is completely new to us and that meant we needed a lot of explanation and hand holding. I did a little research and read up on Yelp some of the other reviews and felt good about reaching out to Robyn to do the work. She is not an attorney, but a Legal Document Assistant which means she is able to put together all of the documents for you and it's all legally binding and charges you a fraction of what an attorney would charge. Typically those attorney offices offload the work to their paralegal or legal document assistants to do the work anyway and then charge you a premium, so going through Robyn gets the same results without the extra charge. I e-mailed Robyn initially and told her we were interested in starting the Estate Planning process and she answered some questions that I had. We made an initial consultation appointment and she e-mailed me some pre-planning things to look at and fill out ahead of our appointment so that we were prepared for our meeting and discussion. The initial consultation was a wonderful experience. She accommodated our schedule and was able to meet with us on a Saturday morning, which was nice. The consultation lasted about 2 hours, but she did a thorough job in walking us through all of the things we wanted to consider and what information she needed from us. She was patient, friendly, and very engaging and took the time to explain things so that we could better understand. She even gave examples to help illustrate various scenarios. The consultation itself is free so there is no obligation to go with Robyn if you don't feel comfortable in her abilities or she doesn't fit your needs. However, my wife and I were very comfortable working with her and did not hesitate to make the decision to go with her by the end of the consultation. If you decide to move ahead with Robyn to prepare your documents, she will ask for 50% of the total cost in the form of a check (so be prepared to bring a checkbook) and then make a follow-up appointment (about a month later). This will give her sufficient time to prepare all of the documents and have it ready to go for the 2nd and final visit to have you sign and notarize everything. We were able to make our follow-up appointment for during the week (about a month after the initial consultation) as we were on vacation and had time. During the follow-up visit, Robyn walked us through the entire Estate Planning Binder she diligently prepared to ensure its accuracy and explained to us exactly what each section contained. The very first page of the binder is a summary flow diagram of the Estate Plan which is super helpful to give a high level 50,000 ft view of what the details of the binder have. It's great to refer to it in case you want to review your Estate Plan every so often and don't remember the details. Another great thing about the 2nd and final visit is that Robyn is also a notary, so any document that needs to be signed and notarized, Robyn will be able to handle it right there in the office. This saves a lot of time and there's no added cost to this convenient service. Along with the Estate Plan Binder with everything printed out in hard copy, Robyn provides 2 additional USB drives that you can provide to your loved one or Executor with all of the documents in the binder in a PDF form. This is extremely convenient and great to have a couple of different back-ups should anything happen to the original. Another great service that Robyn helped us with is the transfer of our home residence property in the name of our Estate. This cut out another step we'd otherwise have to do which was again very thoughtful and convenient. Finally, another great thing about the Estate Binder is that Robyn includes 2 laminated business sized cards with the printed name of the Estate Plan so that whenever we needed to go to the bank or other financial institutions to change our accounts over into the name of our Estate, this was readily available and easy for anyone to use to identify the name of the Estate. I did want to mention that at the end of the 2nd visit after we went through everything and signed all of our documents, Robyn did hold onto the Binder so that she could do all the necessary mailings/filings for us and then mailed us the Binder. It was indeed a very fluid and seamless service. We paid the balance of the cost of the Estate Planning at the end of our visit and that was pretty much it. We recently had a baby boy and thought, we need to get our affairs in order. After doing much research on on estate planning we stumbled across Robyn. We did a quick phone consultation with her and she clearly laid out her process. Communication with Robyn was clear, fast and easy via email, Skype and phone.
