Although no longer in the studio, Annie provides a clean open space to pole with both spin & static options, & an array of other offerings you can mix + match (acro, chair, burlesque). I've done both private pole lessons in my home with her as well as at her location. I enjoyed both but like the mirrors & props she has at her location. I started taking classes because I wanted to get out of my head and into my body after a very challenging year and have been taking weekly one-on-one classes for roughly 6 months now. I have to say Annie is wonderful. I've learned things far quicker than I thought that I was capable of with her instruction - she is approachable, funny, has countless years of experience in choreography and multiple types of dance, and she makes you feel so comfortable. AVF Exotic Arts is hidden in the plaza across from the Harris Teeter on the corner of the plaza and central avenue. It is a magical place where you can change your life if you have the guts to try. I learned about the studio after watching a friend completely change over a year long period. I saw my friend morph into a different person through going here. She walks differently, she is very physically strong and she has a newfound confidence through consistently taking classes at the studio. The pole works your entire body-your spirit-your mind. It is a very safe place to challenge yourself and Anne the instructor is absolutely wonderful at what she does. I don't have a lot of dance experience and I am not coordinated - she does an AMAZING job of teaching you moves in little pieces and then teaches you how to piece them together in your own style. I had my first class this week and I am sore in places that I didn't know existed. Every single muscle in my body was worked and I loved every single minute of it. When the 90 minute class ended I was sad (this has NEVER happened). I booked with Annie 2 to 3 weeks ago for a girls night out. She was very accommodating and sent a follow up email before the night of our class. When we arrived early she was already waiting for us since we blindfolded our girlfriend to surprise her for her birthday. She also got special roses for our friend since it was her birthday. She taught more than just pole dance and catered to songs we requested. She made us feel comfortable and we had an overall fun time! Our class lasted 2 hours which gave us time to do pole, burlesque, and chair dance, and also had about 20 minutes at the end to take pictures. This studio was not what i expected but overall my party had a good time and the instructor made the best of the space constraints. As a party of 9 we were cramped. The class felt a little rushed and the instructor seemed to be controlling towards the end of class in efforts to get us out. She was flexible with her choreography but very sexual . People who are just coming into expressing themselves in sexually may feel uncomfortable. read more

As a guy coming into this type of couples session I wasn't sure what to expect. My fiancée had gone with a group of girls for a Bachelorette party a couple months back and it's all they could talk about for weeks. What can I say about Annie? She is awesome in creating a safe space as you work on your skills and insecurities, without judgment or criticism. Classes are held in a private or semi-private setting, working on dance techniques, floor, chair, burlesque and pole. I've built not only my physical strength but my confidence and self esteem as well. If you don't know, Annie has her Degree from Winthrop University in Dance Education. She's creative, unique, and a trained dancer unlike other pole studios which are I feel are more fitness oriented. Must give AFV Arts and Annie and shot. She is wonderful and talented! read more

I was lucky enough to be invited to AFV Exotic Arts for their recent Halloween showcase. The studio itself is a wonderful place that you would never guess to be in the location it is. Upon entering, you are immediately whisked away into a magical fantasy world where anything seems possible. If the studio alone isn't enough to entice you, then there is Annie, your bold & fearless hostess. She is a real character, full of energy and passion and a huge inspiration to the girls (and guy) who take lessons at her studio. She also happens to have an outstanding attitude and work ethic. I got to hang out with some of her students after the showcase and they all had nothing but great things to say about Awesome Annie and how she has nurtured, supported and empowered each and every one of them. They seem to always have a fantastic time at the studio whether during lessons or, as was plainly obvious by their camaraderie, at their fantastic showcases. The hard work and dedication that goes in to each showcase is obvious and everyone should be proud of their efforts in making it such a superb evening.
