Topkapi is a Turkish Restaurant and Takeaway…read more I've only ever had takeaway from here, but can say it's the best Kebab I've enjoyed in Fife. The Owner and Head Chef, Murat, has been cooking Turkish food for over 25 years and that experience really comes through in the flavour of the dishes. Assisted by another friendly face in Ali, they give you the feeling that nothing is too much trouble and that they enjoy preparing food for you. So far I've tried the large Lamb Shish and Kofte mixed Kebab, which was both substantial and delicious. Tender meat, lightly spiced in the case of the Kofte with crisp salad, sauces and fresh pitta. I've also had the Lamb Sauté. This is a saucy, tomato based dish with slow cooked diced Lamb and served with a seeded bread that is like a cross between Naan and Ciabatta. My apologies for not knowing the name of it prior to the review. Again this was lovely but, if you are ordering this, please remember it is a sauce based dish so not a kebab. With that expectation, you should enjoy it very much. Having only discovered this place relatively recently, I've been three times already !!! Good food and friendly service will do that to you though :-)

It was around 2:30 and he was was just working on opening but welcomed us in and fed us enough food for 3 people and it was delicious. Definitely recommend and such a welcome change from the bar food that is mostly prevalent throughout the country.

We loved this restaurant and enjoyed all our dishes. The good thing about small plates, at modest prices, is if a member of your party doesn't care for a dish it's no big deal. The salads, the kebabs, the dips, the seafood... everything was first rate as was the service. Only dish that faltered (and we had 10 among four of us) was the moussaka. Terrific meal! They need to pay more attention to their Yelp listing - there's a full bar, excellent cocktails, and they take credit cards - despite the Yelp listing.

As I get further into my twenties, I've found that restaurants have an increasing tendency to play their music very loud. I'm sorry, and call me old fashioned, but one of the main things about going out for dinner is that you are there to have a conversation with the person you are with. I'm not there to get my groove on. Anyway, I digress. I really enjoy Greek/Turkish and Middle Eastern Food which is what this place specialises in. We chose some mezze plates including the chicken souvlaki, soutzoukakia (meatballs), the Moroccan Chicken Tagine and the Loukaniko. It was mouth watering. It was great value too, the portion sizes were manageable and we left very happy customers.

Please note that this review comes from a Canadian, globe trotting, food lover!…read more What a quaint, casual little family run restaurant. We walked-in for dinner just after opening around 5:30. Three tables were already taken and reservations are encouraged but we were accommodated with the condition of leaving by a certain time. We had hummus, lentil soup and chicken shish! The hummus had the perfect texture with a garlicky, tangy finish. The soup and chicken were good with very slight Turkish seasoning and fresh. We were presented the red "hot" sauce that was equivalent to a mild blended picco de gallo. (Minus the cilantro and onion) Overall an average meal at a very reasonable price.

Oh my oh my, what a dang treat! Last Saturday after the SO and I had a day about town lunch was…read moreobviously in order; after reading the overwhelmingly glowing reviews of Hanedan we headed right in--and now, having been, I'm happily joining the ranks! Hanedan is a wee joint with about 10 tables tops, which I think makes reservations during weekends (especially in the evening) a must. Upon entering you'll notice a grill right smack dab in the center of the front room, and if you're like us you'll be greeted with a smile by the owner?/chef. The next room in has a few more tables in it, and is simply but nicely decorated. Our order was taken quickly by a friendly waitress and we were served our starters in good time. That's when the game changed. Normally starters are good, but these starters--hummus and some flaky, perfectly puffed spinach+feta pastries--were DECADENT. Like, close your eyes and relish each bite kind of good. I don't know what voodoo created those little pastries, as surely only the dark arts can make something so yummy! It seems that Hanedan does have only a handful of selections for vegetarians which would be the only downside I could see if, say, you wanted to eat there literally every day, but for hubs and I the two veggie choices were just fine and we ended up getting the same thing anyway. Not long after the starters a feta salad arrived (I think our eyes were well bigger than our stomachs when we ordered) as well as two perfect veggie moussaka mains. By the end of all of that saucy, veggie-filled deliciousness, I had to beg for a carry away box for mine, and husband had to be airlifted out of the place after finishing his lot. (Extra perk: when I came back to said leftovers later, it was just as good if not better... Seriously, what voodoo is this?!) In the end I'm tickled pink to have found such a refreshingly different, friendly, and dark-magically delicious restaurant. Any place that can take something as routine as hummus and make your eyes pop out your head when you sample it is five stars in my book! I recommend anyone venturing about the Newington/Buccleuch side of town stop in here--you won't regret it!
