This was by far the best food we had in Scotland during our 10 day trip. We tried the traditional Scottish places, even one 1-star Michelin rated, and this was the first time we had Italian in Scotland. It was delicious. We made reservations for our trip. We ordered the garlic bread, minestrone soup, lasagne and chicken parmigiana. Everything was tasty and they had different red sauces. Espresso martini and bottle of Sangiovese. Embarrassed to say, but it was so good that we ended up coming back the next couple of nights we were in St. Andrews. We were a bit tired of having steak/seafood and thought since the food was so delicious and service hospitable, why would we chance it by trying some other fancy seafood place. Wait staff seemed disorganized and disengaged with customers. Orders were incorrect and food (when finally arrived) was very average. Returned there a second time recently just to check my first impressions. After my first visit, I thought that it was probably the best Italian meal that I had ever had and I have eaten quite few around the UK and elsewhere, including Italy. I was proved right. A very pleasant environment, friendly owner and efficient staff. A little crowded with small tables quite close together but manageable. The food is excellent, good selection, cooked extremely well, pasta on point and other ingredients outstanding. Nice space with typical family-style vibe, lots of black-and-white photos of celebrities on the walls, wine bottles, etc. The menu is quite extensive - if you can't find something you like on this menu, you must be in the wrong place. It's not worth it to split a meal with someone here. If you do, they automatically charge you an additional £10. This is frustrating, especially when you are traveling and don't want to have to waste food because carrying out leftovers isn't an option. Also - if you want just a starter for your main meal, they will charge you an additional £5 so it costs the same as what you would pay for a full dinner meal. We walked into 6, yes 6 other restaurants between 9:30-10:30pm just to be turned away because their kitchen's were closed. Someone recommended Little Italy and we're so glad they did. They are open late in this small time and they were packed. The owner, who's name I forget, truly cares about his establishment. The menu is extensive and tremendous. Our prosciutto wrapped fresh mozzarella app was excellent. Pesto sauce with bread was excellent. Our main courses (1 veal, 1 chicken, 1 pasta) were all outstanding. There's two problems when you walk into this restaurant. Maybe three if you come at prime time and don't have a reservation. We happened to walk in early enough that there was still some extra tables so problem one taken care of. Problems 3 and 3 were harder to fix. The menu is really extensive and it's almost impossible to narrow your choice down to one. The third problem is do you order an appetizer or dessert. We we solved these problems over wine. Ordered 2 appetizers for the three of us and one dessert. Had a few orders of there garlic bread to start. I had a spaghetti dish with spicy sausage that was wonderful. M wife had a different sausage dish in a white cream sauce while our son had a gnocchi dish that was also delicious. I received a phone call from Winslow the GM manager from Little Italy restaurant in Groveport Ohio. He was reaching out to tell me happy birthday on my special day and told me there was a surprise email waiting for me. I proceeded to tell him I appreciated the email, but due to our financial burden and struggles we have had lately was unable to possibly come in for my birthday, but I would definitely use it in the future. He then proceeded to invite me and any amount of guest to come in and he would pick up the bill and make sure that my birthday was one to remember we went to dinner my husband and I we had the best meal the best service he proceeded to come to our table several times to check on us I couldn't have been more grateful and more happy. Although made to order, the cutlet breading was unseasoned as was the chicken and not prepared in a pan but in a fryer. This little Italian restaurant was so busy that you need to make a reservation!! It is very small and intimate. Service was very good, price was reasonable. I had spaghetti Carbonara and penna cotta. The spaghetti carbonara was phenomenal! It was very creamy and flavorful! The portion was big and I was very full. The penna cotta was on the other hand, could be a bit sweeter. Two of us ordered a light meal - salad for one and pizza to share - we were charged a 15 pound plate charge (extra plate) - the pizza was only 12 pounds. Of the four nights in St. Andrews, I would say this place had the best food of all our stops. The atmosphere is typical italian, eclectic posters on the wall from the Godfather to Italian Holiday. The only issue is how close the table spacing an the size of the tables which is something I think is very common in Scotland is they try to pack to many people such a small place. Although the prices of Little Italy were a bit over our budget, my wife, daughter and I decided to splurge a bit and had dinner here on a recent visit to the town. What a lovely experience we had. At 5 PM there were very few patrons. The interior was a delight, very clean and tastefully decorated. Wait staff was very attentive, not pushy. The food was wonderful: the nice house Merlot, the tasty salad, the ample bruschetta, and all three pastas that had such a delicate sause, we could not stop making yummy comments on it.
