Rancho La Puerta is a place and an experience you didn't know you need in your life. Once there,…read moreyou realize how vital this place is to your well-being. As of 2025, this was my 3rd retreat to RLP and it won't be my last. I plan on making this an annual trip. It's hard to put into words how great it feels to be here, and even harder to show how beautiful it is because the photos never do it justice. Pros: - The food. It's delicious and makes you feel good from the inside out. Dining happens in the dining hall which is this beautiful building where meals are treated as more than nourishment for your body, but for your soul as well. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style. You can sit outside with beautiful views of Mt. Kuchumaa or sit indoors. There are small tables and large tables to sit with new and old friends. Dinner is served table side. Each meal is crafted with care using a delicous, fresh variety of foods that include whatever is growing in their gardens (more on the gardens later). - The property. The entire property is rustic but cared for and loved. The grounds and gardens are meticulously maintained. - Mt Kuchumaa. My absolute favorite part of RLP are the morning (sunrise) hikes. Many different levels of hiking and no experience required. My favorite hike is Coyote and the Breakfast Hike. - No wifi or televisions. It's a great way to unwind. - The classes; fitness, art, speakers....there is so much to learn. - The rooms are rustic and clean. You have all the amenities you need. - Spend time relaxing at one of the amazing pools and spas. - Shuttle service from San Diego is great. They are also wonderful if you need to arrive or depart in an off-day. - I always felt safe and cared for Cons: (this list could be kinda short) - Sometimes it's confusing to navigate the property. Especially if it's your first time. Also, if you have mobility issues, you will want to keep that in mind as there is a lot of walking to do to get from place to place....BUT, with that said, I saw a lot of people with less mobility than myself getting around just fine. :) They may not be on sunrise hikes, but they were in all the classes, concerts and dinners. - Highway Noise. Unfortunately, you can hear the highway from the ranch, which is so strange because it feels like a different world...but yes, it's close to the major highway and you will hear semi truck air brakes quite often. Some casitas are closer than others. This is my must-do list: - Hiking Mt Kuchumaa. They have several options every morning. - Gourmet Breakfast Hike - Cooking class - Spa (getting a treatment or just spending a few hours relaxing in the women's only spa pool/hot tub) - Sound bath sessions - Instructor-led classes - so much variety! Pro-tip suggestions: - Don't go hungry...need more protein and avocados for breakfast or lunch? Just ask, they will bring it to you from the kitchen. - Don't go hungry....order a meal and a half at dinner or get half of each entree. - Don't over-schedule yourself, but DO make sure you look at everything that's offered all week. - This is not the Marriott or Ritz. It is a rustic, wonderful health resort that reflects the vibe they are going for. - Be open and relax. - Sign up right away for classes that fill up like the Organic Breakfast hike and things that cost more like the Cooking Class. - Review your folder and take a couple of hours to acquaint yourself with how things work, the classes and grounds.

Best spa and resort for a family vacation. Healthy food and excellent service. Price is worth it.read more

He picked us up early right at the border, and the pickup was unbelievably smooth and easy -- the perfect stress-free start to the day. From the moment we met him, he was warm, friendly, and genuinely kind. His car was super comfortable, and he immediately adjusted the music and temperature to our preferences, which made the whole experience feel relaxed and personalized. We were originally planning to visit four wedding venues, but Danny went above and beyond -- thanks to his insider local knowledge and great suggestions, we ended up touring TEN venues in one day. There's no way we could have pulled that off without him. At each stop, he dropped us off right on time, picked us up promptly, and even helped communicate with venue staff so everything ran smoothly. It really felt like he always had our backs. He also made an amazing last-minute lunch recommendation that turned out to be one of the highlights of the day. Danny got us home safely, and we're so grateful for how easy, fun, and seamless he made the entire experience. I truly cannot recommend him enough -- 10/10 would absolutely book again. If you're looking for a safe, fun, and stress-free travel day in Baja, Danny is your guy.

She was the first travel agent either of us had engaged, thinking that they're just for the wealthy. Well we couldn't have been more incorrect!! Not only did she get us an unbeatable price for our trip, but she also upgraded us to a view room in a great location on the ship (below the main dining room and far from all the loud and obnoxious activities). Upon our return home, I noticed a few ads that were offering 'deep discounted deals' for the exact same trip we took, but they were still above what we paid and didn't offer as much on-board credits as Mary was able to procure for us. The process was seamless also, as she presented us with the best options for a few different itineraries, while providing us with personal insight on each regarding the pro's and con's. We really appreciated all of the time she spent with us, and all of the patience she displayed while we were weighing our options carefully. We couldn't have gone wrong either way, but we were especially picky because it was such a special occasion. And she took the headaches of all the scheduling, etc out of the equation so we could spend our time planning the fun stuff. In the end, we had the perfect trip, and we owe a lot of the credit to Mary for helping us choose and for getting us such an affordable price. Clients for life, for sure.

Alan, who owns this company, immediately responded to my inquiry about a cost estimate for a round trip pick up and drop off from Chula Vista to the TJ airport. The price was very reasonable and at first I was hesitant to book since I could not find reviews online but reading his website I made the decision to book with him and I'm glad I did! Alan picked me up promptly and even agreed to pick up my family at another location nearby. I found out that he lives in TJ with his family so he knows the area well and that he has been taking people not only to the airport in TJ but also drive people (including some businessmen) around the city and beyond (Ensanada, Rosarito, etc) I paid him half when he dropped us off at the airport and then the rest when he dropped us home after we came back from our trip. I would definitely book another service with him the next time I fly from Tijuana or even a day trip to the southern part of Baja California.

Like others I found this fellow on tripadvisors and most were good reviews. But in this case Alan, the owner, left four of us stranded at TIJ airport Sunday, Dec. 5 @ 7:30pm with no phone calls or messages alerting me of a problem, and I had pre-paid in advance with Paypal as he insisted! He was late by 35 minutes picking us up in San Ysidro for the transfer to TIJ airport on our outbound flight a week earlier, which could have, but didn't tip me off yet to his false promise of service. Do NOT trust him or his service the way we did unless you prefer lip service to real service. I have still NOT received a phone call or message, apologizing or explaining what went wrong...even a lame excuse would have been better than none. There was NO MISCOMMUNICATION with pick-up day or time on our return either. I sent two emails which he confirmed weeks earlier, talked with him about it on the ride to TIJ and a third email while in Mexico reminding him of the pick-up on Sunday. Needles to say, for the first visit to Tijuana Airport and arriving at night to get abandoned by your transfer company turned out to be a harrowing experience for my wife, her older sister (age 60), brother-in-law (age 65) and myself. From transfer across the border to hoofing it on foot with all our luggage was not a pretty sight. Stay CLEAR OF THIS GUY AND HIS COMPANY!! He talks a good line but does not deliver.

We worked with Cathy and while trying to decide on a destination (we had several on our list), were impressed at her in depth knowledge of what seemed to be everything related to traveling. She's very passionate and experienced as a traveler, as well as in her field as an agent. Her advice and insight definitely led us to feeling confident in all of our planning decisions. Cathy put together several itineraries for us and was always available, with a quick turn around time whenever we had any questions. Working with a travel agency can also be really pricey, but Carefree will work with you to customize a package that will fit within your budget. I especially appreciated Cathy's patience and all of the time she spent with us, whether it was communicating in person, on the phone, or email. The woman who said she could help me didn't even let me finish stating my problem (not even halfway through) when she just started nodding her head vigorously and saying she wouldn't help me. I walked out less than 5 minutes after I walked in. It was rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional to not even let me ask her my question. Not to mention that when I walked in, there were about 4 people there but no one attempted to help me until after a solid 30 seconds of standing there like a deer in the headlights. I took my business elsewhere (to VeryBest Travel in Bonita, CA) and they were not only willing to solve my problem, but did so in less than an hour. It doesn't cost anything to be nice and to hear a customer out to see if you can help them. Obviously, my problem wasn't so "impossible" to solve that less than an hour later another travel agency was able to help me and did solve my problem. Needless to say, I will NEVER be returning here.
