I do recall my mother being quite upset when she was alive that the groundskeepers or landscapers had appeared to chip my grandfather's headstone with the mower. I know she mentioned it to the office several times, but nothing was ever resolved. Other than that, I personally have had no issues with the cemetery other than the delay with my mother's headstone but things happen. It is very large and maintained well I'd say.

It seemed quite park-like with lots of shade trees and many benches throughout, the grounds were manicured in most places and shrubbery trimmed appropriately. I took some time to wander the grounds with no specific site in mind. At one point, I tried to find one or two specific gravesites but the markings here made that a bit challenging as i could not easily determine which section I was in. I'm sure if you know where you're going, you'd have no trouble. Most of the cemetery is driveable with wider lanes suitable for parking. I suggest you find a shady spot and then get out to walk. Please be respectful as there are families here experiencing loss. [Review 15812 overall - 1391 in Florida - 1316 of 2021.]

Here lies William Ashley and Nancy Ashley. A city leader and slave owner buried with the servant he fell in love with and shared a home with. In the end he insisted they were buried together where they could finally be together free from judgement. In 1873 this was unheard of. The inscription is "Here lies Wm. I called the office and was transferred to a woman with the sweetest voice, Anna. She has one of those sweet grandmother type voices that instantly puts you at ease. (Definitely someone is want to speak with after a loved ones passing) their office is located pretty far from the particular portion of the many Cemeteries right here. She asked me for details of where I was currently positioned (It happened to be a color coded arrow without a section # on the sign) she had me drive towards the first set of mausoleums I could see and then tell her which mausoleum it was or a section number. She then proceeded to become my live edition GPS, she stayed on the phone with me the entire time, which was quite lengthy due to taking a few wrong turns and having to cross a major high way twice, plus 2 u-turns. The call lasted 17 minutes, I apologised profusely for being such a terrible fool at following directions, each time she gave reassuring words to soothe my frazzled mind. Once I arrived and came in a woman with a beaming smile sat at the desk and gave me a warm greeting, I should have guessed it was Anna because the woman is definitely the type of woman I'd pictured in my mind that she would look like. She handed me paperwork to fill in for my requests, I struggled to fill the paperwork out as I'd left my reading glasses in the car. Guess what Anna did? She offered me hers. I politely declined & told her I'd go to my car and get mine. She was busy multitasking away with telephones, paperwork, other employees asking questions and people walking in the door. She even continued holding a conversation with me while she did all of this. While the gentleman went to his computer to research what I needed, I was shown to a large open lounge and invited to have some coffee while I waited. The lounge and entry way are clean and tastefully decorated. Considering the fact that people come here to make arrangements for their loved ones after they have passed I'd highly recommend this business and its employees.

I love to deliver credit where it is due and am hopeful for a success story. The value is still in question at this moment.

I walked the cemetery and the preserve. I didn't inquire info or pricing of services.. A description of what I viewed while on the property is below along with several photos. The Heartwood Preserve is a medium size property and is essentially the same environment as Starkey Park. In fact, the most southwest corner of Starkey Park borders the Heartwood Preserve. The border fence can seen on the preserve trial which is probably a quarter mile long. I walked through the cemetery portion of the property viewing two graves. Small grave markers can be seen along the trail indicating gravesites. One grave not pictured was circled by pinecones with pineneedles a top. Each gravesite was directly beside the cemetery pathway (not paved) identical to many field like trials at Starkey where many fan shaped palm fronds are. The welcome center was staffed when I visited and a separate employee was tending to the grounds and politely waved and smiled. I learned a lot by walking the property on my own and will consider burial on these grounds.

Funeral are never a pleasant experience, but everyone has to deal with it in their lifetime. My sister's boyfriend chose this place because he worked with them before on his mother's funeral. I was introduced to Stacy who was coodinating my sister's final resting. She was knowledgable and sympathic. They also are a crematory, so the pricing reflected the absense of the middle man. Yes, prices vary greatly when it comes to these services. Just to be sure, I contacted Carmen at Gaita's who is a family friend. He agreed that the pricing was very resonable. Stacy handled all the arrangements with no issues considering the horrible Forida laws. Are you aware that if you pass away and want to be cremated in Florida, there is a 7 to 10 day waiting period. Also if you are transporting remains out of state, it must be send to a person. No, it cannot be sent to another funeral home, but it has to be to a PERSON. Again, thanks Carmen for allowing us to send it to you. They keep the temperature to a very cool level. There was plenty of water and tissues at our disposal. Since we did not hold services here, I cannot comment on that aspect.
