When I was notified of my mother's body being found, someone from Whitfield had already collected her body before I was even formally notified by police of her death. According to people who work in the senior housing facility where my mother lived, this is not an uncommon occurrence. It seems that Mr. Whitfield does ineed use his position as mayor to position his business in a way that is clearly a conflict of interest. That aside, I would like to share my experience with the business as a customer. I dealt with Mr. Whitfield directly, and I can't say it was a positive experience in any way. I understand that we all deal with death differently, but I didn't feel any empathy from this man at all. It was all business with him. At one point, he even referred to "your father" even though it was my mother's body. That lack of attention to detail bothered me. Dealing with them was this agonizing game of phone tag where I ultimately had to get a lawyer involved in order to get my mother's ashes back from them in anything approaching a timely fashion. It took almost three weeks! Almost made the memorial service late. And when I went to pick up her ashes, they had made a mistake on the paperwork that I needed to sign for pickup. Also, a complete lack of sympathy or empathy from them at the time. I cannot recommend against them strongly enough. Learn from my experience, and go somewhere else. Anywhere.

When speaking to my family, there seems to have been several missed opportunities to make the experience more memorable. First of all, they offered a complimentary portrait which they could not do from a jpeg and had to be from a photo. There was no portrait at the funeral as a result. We are in 2020, so new photos are hard to come by other than in digital form. They also offered a video link which was good to allow people to watch since there was limitations of the number of people allowed due to the virus. The video link did not have the sound on the microphone so the entire family watching on the video missed the priest's sermon. I called twice to tell them and they did not seem to respond to my request. The last straw was I had ordered flowers through the funeral home and they did not deliver what I had ordered. See what I ordered first and what I got second. This was an overall off-putting experience to the point that everyone in the family is now wanting to do cremation instead!!
