Finally, she began to stagger in her last week. I took her in. Dr. King listened to her heart and told me her pulse was weak and the blood flow to her back legs was poor, which was why she was staggering. He told me she was dying. I was afraid if I took her home, she would die alone, so I agreed to put her to sleep. I held her while he gave her a shot to let her relax, and she passed peacefully in my arms. It was so painful, but he was very kind and understanding as my husband and I cried for her. We had her cremated, and the hospital provided me with a lovely carved box containing her ashes with her name on a brass nameplate. He also made a donation in my name to a shelter. Dr King and his staffs did everything he could for my cat, and I will never forget his gentleness when he took care of her. He made a deeply painful situation a little more bearable. If I get another cat, I will definitely take them to Smith's Animal Hospital.

The vet wanted to give her a rabies vax before seeing her as if 3 mins is going to make a difference. Said she did not feel comfortable seeing her without her getting vaxxed first. You would think someone in the "medical profession" would understand how long it takes for a vax to have an impact. Needless to say we left and had nothing done. The other vet we saw...was much more helpful and helped this pup. Once she gains weight hoping to find her a forever home.

This location got my attention when the Spartanburg Humane Society and a local dog trainer friend of mine recommended Southport. I was even more pleased when I found out there are discounts for police, firefighters and teachers. While other Yelpers have commented that Southport's policy prevents tours, that is the second thing they offered me when I walked in without my dog to investigate. The tour showed me the two options for kennels. The facility was being cleaned (as any kennel needs constantly), dogs were being fed and there was a decent play area, too. Southport feeds all their temporary residents the best-reviewed food out there. All staff were very happy to meet my rather outgoing dog and also were happy to see her return a second time. The bath I ordered after the first stay kept my dog's coat and breath smelling fresh for over a week. (I kinda want to know how they do that!) I think Southport is taking feedback seriously. They are happy to give a tour, as I mentioned. There is further evidence for that, too. I did not want the manicure during that bath, but I was charged the same rate. After I mentioned other groomers usually do nail trims separate, they gave me credit on my second visit and also changed the pricing for future grooming. Southport is a well run kennel. Those expecting a day spa where you can watch your dog's ear twitch in HD may look elsewhere. Overall, I will be taking my dog back for a third visit and hopefully future visits. Keep it up, Southport Kennel. Your customer service should be recognized in Spartanburg.

If you call to say you'll pick your dog up the next day, be aware that they may not be fed during that extended time. This happened to my dog, and as a result, I will not be returning. They are closed on Sundays, so we planned to pick her up Monday after work. My husband got a call around 10am on Monday that our dog had gotten out of their fence and they couldn't find her. We both left work and searched for her all day (the kennel staff helped for 2 hours). We posted lost dog signs all along Asheville highway and luckily, a woman found her and called us Tuesday afternoon. She was in very rough shape and ended up having a broken leg. We have been very up front with the kennel about what this has cost us, and they have dodged our phone calls and taken no responsibility. Unfortunately, now we have to get lawyers involved. I strongly urge you to not bring your pets here and find another boarding facility!

When I boarded my 8 year old Beagle-Shih Tzu mix she was completely ok. The night I picked her up,…read morewhen we got home she started throwing up excessive amounts. I didn't think anything of it because she drank a lot of water when we got home, it's almost as she hadn't been given any water. The next morning I found her shaking and she had labored breathing. So I took her to Heartland Animal Hospital where I later found out that she's suffering from acute kidney failure, which could be caused by DEHYDRATION, and a few other things. The people working at Boiling Springs Kennels didn't tell us if she drinking or not, I had asked them if she was acting weirdly, they had said that she hasn't been acting weird. She had stayed there for four nights. So, if she wasn't drinking anything she was there for a long enough time that would cause something physically bad to happen. After a few hours have passed since I took her to the hospital, I get a call saying that she took a turn for the worse. I have a daughter so I took her to say her goodbyes and give her some love, assuming she didn't make it. We went back home and left my dog at the hospital. Since I didn't want to leave her alone at the hospital (it wasn't a 24 hr care hospital) I decided to take her to one that is a 24 hr one. My best friend decided to hold my dog in her arms on the way there... my dog was in pretty bad condition and the vet from the hospital said she only had a 1% chance of surviving. On the way there is when my precious little pup had passed. Long story short, you should not board your pets at Boiling Springs Kennels, the workers are nice but don't look after the animals, because of that.. my dog died (she didn't necessarily have any health issues before I boarded her.)
