There are four things I want to say about Air Hogs Scuba and its owner, Thomas. First, if you're the too long; didn't read type, I HIGHLY recommend Air Hogs Scuba for your needs. In Raleigh? Durham? Drive the extra distance. It's worth it. Second, Thomas and Co undoubtedly know their craft. There are experts, and then there are THE experts. I don't have the largest sample size, but of the shops I've visited in NC and FL, Air Hogs Scuba has THE experts in the field. There is not a question I have asked that has not just been answered but answered in-depth with explanations and reasons why. Third, Thomas has been imparted with Forbidden Knowledge only granted by the Goddess of the Deep after your 1,000th dive about regulator service. I brought my regs in for service, fully ready to get a new pair because they kept leaking at the end of a season. Thomas discouraged me from getting new ones, instead explaining why they did that, what I could do to fix it on the fly, and what he could do to tune my regs to be the best they've been. I just finished using them on eight dives of various depths after service, and not only do they not leak or have any issues; they breathe better than any set I've ever used. The only restriction I had breathing was tweaking the flow setting to try to optimize my breathing effort. The work blew me away. And they work on Hog gear, which many shops won't touch. Finally, I want to say Thomas and those at Air Hogs are genuinely lovely people looking out for the diver and not their bottom line. They went out of their way to ensure I got my regs back in time for a dive. I went in to talk about getting a new BC setup, and Thomas encouraged me to dive a new setup first before spending money on it and even offered customizations if I did decide to go with the new setup (plate & wing). I got the impression I would have to convince HIM to sell me one without trying it first! That's just good customer service and good (diver) community service, in my opinion. My wife and I found Air Hogs Scuba not long after getting certified. We were certified while on vacation by a shop there, with another different training agency, and received what I would describe as mediocre training and then got some questionable gear recommendations at other shops. I was worried my wife wouldn't stick with diving. That all changed when we found Air Hogs. Once hooking up with Thomas and his team we were able to purchase the right gear for the diving we wanted to do and advance our training. Thomas sat down with me multiple times and mapped certification paths in person, via email, online chat, and made sure my gear purchases would transition to that diving. I had an open running unbilled invoice for years to track my certification goals and plans. This way my wife could reach out and make purchases for holidays for me or prepay towards some of my training time. I have since joined a Public Safety Dive Team locally that the shop supports. Prices are always fair and they will work with you when they can on pricing and options. You're not limited to what is on the shelf and they don't try to push that gear just to get it out the door. Most of what I've purchased they have custom ordered (including all my wife's pink gear). Whether it is personalized 1:1 or small group recreational training, public safety training, or technical training these guys will get it done. They also teach SDI/TDI/ERDI and First Response Training International which is an amazing agency. The group of instructors and divemasters are awesome as well. Don't expect your instructor or divemaster to be a 100/40 dive minimum. They are experienced, many of them veterans, with very diverse diving experiences. read more

Well, what can i say. I got certified in St. Martin in 2013. Came back home and looked at shops to help me progress. Air Hogs was able to train on my MY schedule and that led to a LOT of training over the years. So much so, that I'm now an Instructor with them. While Air Hogs Scuba might be a new shop to the area Dive Community it stands out to me as being one of the best! I recently (six months ago) moved to the Durham area and had trouble finding a new dive ship in the community to call home. Most lacked something for me, at some places it was small things and at other locations it was pretty major things. Air Hogs on the other hand went above and beyond when it comes to setting up the shop and provides a clean and welcoming appearance that is not often found in the dive community. Best of all unlike the other locations which run there training on a schedule were you can only do x course on x day, Air Hogs provides custom scheduling to meet student needs. Poor customer service and rude employee! I took my gear to be serviced and waited months with no call. I finally stopped by and my tank had been sitting there for weeks. They not only didn't call me to let me know my gear was ready but when I tried to pay the bill the employee was too busy on his cell phone to take my payment and said he'd send me a link. The link didn't work so I contacted them again. They said they would send me a PayPal link which they never did. Then I get an email out of the blue weeks later saying that the invoice was unpaid. I called them to let them know that I tried to pay it and the employee lied and said he sent it when he didn't. Then I received the invoice that he allegedly sent minutes later after our call. Not only was he a rude arrogant a$$hole to me he constantly interrupted me. I hung up on him and he called back screaming at me! Are you effing kidding me? I will never do business with them again and I hope anyone reading this won't either! read more

Great experience at Air Hogs Scuba. It's nice to have a full service shop for everyone from recreational to technical. As a vet, I am happy to give my business to a veteran owned community shop so close to my home. I won't repeat all the good things others have stated. Flexibility, professionalism, and veterans helping veterans are among the most important. Being a fairly experienced diver I watched as my 16yo son learned at his pace and excelled while enjoying himself. He had a great experience! Tony handled our phone calls, checking, fixing our gear, and scheduling, Ray was great for classroom instruction (although he does much more), and Justin and Thomas taught him in the pool and open water. All of them were fantastic. My son really liked Ray and Justin. Very knowledgeable and very nice people. Dropped in on the way back from the beach when I saw their sign from the road. The timing was perfect as I was looking for a new Zeagle regulator. While the price was not as low as some of the Internet suppliers, it was competitive and having local support more than made up for the difference. Finding Service and Support for my scuba gear nearby has made my diving more available by keeping my dive gear maintained on a more timely manner. Good Guys, good Pricing, Great service.
