I booked the appointment on Facebook messenger which was quick and easy. I was sent a text message to remind me of the appointment and when I arrived I felt right at ease. The man who working (may have been the owner) was polite and friendly. He told me to come back in about 45 mins however I got a text message 20 minutes later to say that Ted was ready to go. When I arrived the guy had Ted on his lap (well I think he was) because he wasn't in a cage or anything - he clearly loves dogs. Ted was groomed so well I almost didn't recognise him, his nails were cut, his coat was trimmed to perfection and he was smelling delightful. I thought Teds previous cuts were either to short or either not short enough but I thought this cut perfect! I will definitely not be going anywhere else from now on.

The story which led us to Gortlands involves a dearly beloved cat, whose name was Toffee. At only 4 years old, Toffee developed a wee lump on her shoulder, but we were informed that it wasn't anything to worry about, just a foreign body or something, she'd be fine. This unnamed vet coincidently disappeared for a 3 week holiday over the Easter period, and we consequently heard nothing. Concern grew for our puss, and we decided that we had best take her to another vets. It was all very traumatic, and she ran away which really added to the stress of the occasion. A week later, Toffee was taken to Gortlands, where we were more reliably informed that she actually most likely had cancer. This meant having an operation to remove the tumour, but we knew this was a great risk, as she had lost a lot of blood already and was so small that we didn't think she could cope. The vet really was so helpful and kind, and did everything he could, but sadly Toffee passed away a few hours after coming through the operation. I honestly can't recommend these lovely people enough. They took care of everything for us, including her cremation, and were really so incredibly thoughtful. They truly cared. Since then, we have acquired a second cat from an animal sanctuary, and would happily take her to Gortlands if ever the requirement arose.

The prices are quite reasonable but i have always found the vet (manson) to be very rough with the domestic animals. He also offers service to farm animals and feel he may be a little more suited to this area. The vet often is running late or doesn't turn up which is extremely annoying when you have arranged your day to pay a visit. i would recommend spending a little more and visiting another practice in the area.

Patrick and his team are just wonderful. They really care about what they do and give the best treatment and advice. Our 2 wee monkeys have had their fair share of nicks and scrapes in their 2 years and every time, the Ashwood staff have been brilliant. After a particularly nasty infection, Patrick even phoned me a few days later to see how the patient was doing. The clinic is very bright and spacious and they sell all manner of pet food, toys, etc. they even have a great text reminder system of when your pet is due their next worming treatment and always keep you updated as to when the yearly vaccinations are due. The reception staff are so friendly and the veterinary nurses couldn't be nicer. Even though a trip to the vets doesn't fill my 2 dogs with glee, they really don't mind it that much and I put that down to Ashwood being an excellent veterinary practice with staff who really care about every animal they treat.

What I do like about them is they have several branches, and you can visit any of them, but what I don't like is you never see the same vet twice. I would imagine, like a doctor, if they get to know the patient they have a better understanding of their health? Maybe that's just me. Anyway, I usually go to the Cavehill Road branch and we always get an appointment very quickly. The girl on reception knows all the pets and takes a real interest in them, which is always nice. It's a tiny wee place though, so if you're afraid of any other animals, you could be surrounded by them at close quarters! They have operated on our dog twice and have always taken good care of her. The emergency vet is great too, they ring you straight back and will talk you through any issues on the phone. I would recommend Clare Vet group to look after any pet.

I bring my dog here and although he is a big wimp they really put him at ease - then stick a big needle in him!!! I had him neutered here and they really took good care of him, he was back home in a day and i was able to phone the on call vet for advice later that night. They have special deals for people who are unemployed so they can get animals neutered for free.

Their in house vet was fantastic for giving advice and really put us at ease. Plus their store is well stocked for all manor of puppy requirements. Their staff are friendly and knowledgeable and happily spend time giving a comforting wee cuddle to your dog to put them at ease. They sell a number of domestic animals, fish, hamsters and v cute rabbits, we wanted to take one of those home too but thought the the puppy would be enough! If you are looking to get your pet settled quickly and satisfied, this is the place to go to sort it out. My only gripe would be the groomers everything happens in a back room and you don't get to see the process, me being over protective would like to know what is going on, I could hear my pup doing a lot of barking, he was probably fine, and he was certainly in no distress when he came out looking all shiny and unsmelly!

The store itself is huge, and you can tell from the moment you walk through the door that it is a professional outfit. They sell all manner of pet food, bedding, accessories, cages, kennels, supplements, and even sell actual animals, such as fish, small rodents, and reptiles. The staff are really knowledgeable and always on hand to offer advice or answer any questions. They also have a vet on site who used to work at my local veterinary practice, so I can vouch for the fact that he is fantastic!
