On September 23, I attended a Sublimation Tote Bag Workshop at 5:30 pm at South Providence Library…read more Canvas tote bags, pre-printed images on sublimation paper, scissors, and heat-resistant tape were laid out on the table. There were two options to design the bag: Option A: Make a collage-style tote using pre-printed images and Option B: Create a fully custom tote using your own images (from your phone, the internet, or personal photos). I took a look at the pre-printed images and they were great for my tote bag. Great job to Sarah for picking these images! There were a great variety. After I chose the pre-printed images and created my design on the canvas tote bag, Sarah showed me how to use the heat press machine. The heat press machine needed to warm up to 390 degrees. Sarah also checked the bag to make sure they're clean and didn't have any creases. I first pressed the background on the sublimation paper face down and then I used heat-resistant tape to hold in place the characters face down on top and pressed again. The tote came out great and it didn't take long at all. The Sublimation Tote Bag Workshop at South Providence Library was so much fun and I was able to create my own one-of-a-kind tote bag using the sublimation press. Sarah was a great instructor and very friendly. Only 4 people including myself were doing the workshop. I hope more people attend the workshops in the future. South Providence Library is located on Prairie Ave and it is a two way narrow street. When I arrived about 5:30pm, it was quite busy and I parked about a block away. A historic branch…read more Most branch libraries are pretty small and undistinguished, useful but certainly not very interesting or aesthetically appealing. But there are exceptions. The South Providence Branch Library is one of those exceptions. Designed and built by Howe and Rathbone in 1930, the library was actually placed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 1998. Not one of the grand and stunning libraries that are so common around New England, this library does have it's charms. Nice staircases and lighting and even a fireplace or two, it's obvious that this library isn't just something thrown up by the lowest bidder. Parking can be a be iffy and the building doesn't really stand out from the outside, but this library deserves more than just a casual glance to appreciate it's beauty.

They have wonderful programs for teens as well. During the pandemic, teens were lost without activities to do and to get them together but the library continued to have zoom programs such as Dungeons and Dragons and craft activities too. I find the librarians to be so flexible in meeting the concerns of the community. Also, I read in a previous post about traffic but they had construction done so now patrons and staff can enter and exit from a side street: Pleasant View and there is a light if you are entering from Putnam to Pleasant. The library is bright, clean and quiet.They have a community garden and many community events. Their calendar is full with events for all ages. The staff work hard to get to know all of the patrons and our families. My husband uses it for the books. I use it mainly for the computers and printing lately though their book clubs are fantastic too! My teen uses it for the teen space, summer reading and has volunteered there as well, reading to younger children. Greenville Public Library is one of the best libraries in our state!

They keep their hold shelf to the left when you walk in. Books are held in alphabetical order by holders last names. The coolest thing? You get to self check out at this library!! I can run in and out within 3 minutes with this process. Saves me money and space that I don't have to give and helps the library stay active. If you sign up for their newsletter, they will email you their monthly events! I've taken a few awesome classes! One we built a terrarium for air plants! There's financial classes, after school classes for kids... everything. And as I was typing this review, Yelp told me i'm the 'Wizard of Words' so I think that means you have to listen to me. :D

They also give ID vouchers for people who are in need of an ID and don't have the funds for it, they also help pay off in court finds you may have, they connect you with a caseworker to help you with different aspects of your life whether that's in need of a job, finding a doctor, sitting up appointments whatever it is that you need help with they set you up with somebody who can help or direct you on how to do something . As far as I know there are free CDL classes, free culinary classes, and free carpentry classes. There is access to transportation and they will help you set up medical rides or bus passes daily weekly or a monthly. It really is impossible to go hungry and Providence because of this place offering their hot breakfast with juice milk and even coffee. They also offer lunch between the hours of 11 and 12:00 every day. There's help for different kinds of people, do you need help mentally? They have groups for that including substance abuse, you need help getting on methadone or Suboxone or even just a simple medications such as tylenol? It will help you set up appointments with your doctors. If you don't know how to fill out any applications they help you with that as well! They have multiple people that speak different languages so there is help for everybody here. Sometimes there are research groups that compensate you. They also have a program called hands up if you come every Tuesday at 8:30 in the morning you can sign up to work twice a week for 3 weeks and make $50 each time. They also can help you get housing or some type of shelter they will connect you directly with the resources or phone numbers or people that you need to speak with if you really want help it will help you to their fullest.
