We were passing through Düsseldorf for half a day and saw they're known for their Japanese food, so we decided to check out Takumi! They have both indoor and outdoor seating available. AJITAMA TONKOTSU RAMEN: I'm a tonkotsu person and almost always order this over other types of ramen. Not sure if I was just so severely deprived of Asian food, but I felt Takumi's tonkotsu ramen ranked pretty high on my list! And coming from SoCal as well as having lived down the street from both major Japanese food hubs in Los Angeles, that's saying a lot! Good amount of pork, the noodles were cooked to the perfect texture, and the broth was rich without being overly salty. I don't usually enjoy other types of ramen so I can't speak for those items from their menu. But I slurped my entire bowl of tonkotsu ramen dry! KARAAGE: Large pieces with crispy exterior and super juicy interiors! I wasn't expecting much but in the end I was super happy we ordered this. Overall, amazing tonkotsu ramen located in Düsseldorf's Little Tokyo.

Genki Ramen is a cute ramen spot in Essen. The team is Chinese but the ramen chef speaks (and looks…read morea bit) Japanese. While this is not the best ramen I've ever had, it's pretty good for outside of Japan here in Germany. An extra star for the service as he was really nice. Don't expect the perfect Japanese ramen here but it is very good. The noodles and broths are made fresh by the team and were very good. I always get tonkatsu, but they just have shio, shoyu, and miso. We tried the shio and miso and both were very good. Neither were too salty. The noodles tasted fresh and were cooked perfectly. The pork was very good although could be a bit softer. The gyouza were decent but fresh. They could have been cooked a bit longer, and the sauce was too watered down for my taste. It would be nice if they have normal ramen spoons as the big one is a bit hard to use but I guess they want it to look cool. Overall, it is an excellent ramen spot in Germany. Come here if you are missing ramen. If you haven't tried real Japanese ramen before, come here to check it out (also, it's the perfect remedy for hangovers!).

I've had my fair share of ramen across Asia, the US and here in Germany. I ordered the karaage miso ramen, which to me is a very standard dish. Positives: the karaage (fried chicken) was well done and a decent portion size. Negative: the broth was the biggest culprit. A good ramen broth is flavorful and complex, this was neither. I ordered the miso ramen, which should have a strong soybean taste, but this didn't even taste like miso. It was bland. The second culprit was the noodles. They should be a balance of soft and chewy, and these were almost gooey. Not good. When you walk in, place an order, and they tell you it'll be ready in 5 minutes, that's a warning sign. Good food shouldn't be that fast.

This could easily be the place-to-be in a hip city like London or Berlin, and prices (or portions) would like be much higher in that case (or smaller). So, to stay objective: food is 100% original Japanese, and the quality is one that is just above everything else in its category in Münster, and again could easily rival much more expensive Japanese restaurants in the big cities. The personnel is super friendly, actually a family owned business and you can feel that. The chef enriches the traditional sushi with welcome twists from his former positions in High class restaurants in Germany and Japan, while the senior cooks meat, fish and vegetables on the grill to perfection. Though the menu has a focus on sushi, there is plenty of other dishes to explore. Such as a nice variety of starters, great dishes from the grill, as well as some menus, and surprisingly uncommon ice creams. Drinks are great too, and prices are absolutely fair. They even have a high class Japanese whisky. If you get the chance, this is a must-visit.

Usually in Japanese ramen, the sliced meat has both lean meat and a bit fatty part and the meat is slow stewed for hours that the fatty part is not tasted oily anymore. Here the meat is dry and seems to quick cook. The bowel seems to be thrown together quickly without any heart went into it when preparing. My friend ordered sushi which is also average. Not that fresh or special tasty The 2 Stars give to the lunch special options(12-5pm Monday-Saturday) so you save a few euro. Otherwise I would just give 1 star if pay 11 Euro for a bad ramen. I noticed most high rating happened in 2015 or before and the waiter also mentioned they changed to use udon in ramen from usual ramen 2 years ago. Maybe the restaurant is taken over by new owner or had a new chef since then and the quality has gone down. We initially planned to go to another sushi restaurant next to it but because they were fully booked, we went to this one. It probably has the reason why this restaurant still had so many empty spots while another one next to it was completely full. Last but not least please any people who run a restaurant, put your heart in when preparing for your food. Such a shame.
