I have been a member at Akasha Yoga for about three months now. I have attended maybe 50 classes there. I have been to two other Yoga schools and have nothing bad to say about any of them. However, Akasha is the best. The classes are a great stress relief and awesome exercise. The instructors are all very willing to help people new to Yoga, like myself. If this is the last Yoga place that I attend, I will be happy. Aside from relocating, I see no need to go anywhere else. My only complaint is that the store next door (Reclaimed...a artsy used furniture store) blasts their music and hammers on things, so it is difficult to totally relax during meditation when the furniture store is open (fortunately only) on weekends. Akasha also does other fun events to raise money for community projects and causes... drum circles, movie nights, Zumba and Tai Chi. It is a righteous place. read more

While I had always been interested in trying a yoga class and had enjoyed doing yoga occasionally at home with a video, I'd always been a little intimidated by fears I'd make a fool out of myself in front of a bunch of experienced yogis. But a friend of mine who belongs to Akasha bugged me to give it a try and offered to take me and my partner as guests on her membership. After the first class, we were hooked. My partner and I went back the very next day and signed up for monthly memberships and began going to classes several times a week. That was last Fall. There are several reasons I love Akasha Yoga. Aside from the warm and peaceful atmosphere, the instructors are all wonderful. Jennifer (the owner) is a fantastic instructor, has great energy, and a great sense of humor. In the months I was a member, I had the opportunity to take classes with all of the instructors at some point, and they are all fantastic in different ways, but they all strive to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome whether you are a complete beginner (like I was) or an experienced yogi. Akasha does a community class once a month on Saturdays that is free to all. Additionally, they raise money for various community causes each month and have different events and special classes planned throughout each month that add to the sense of community at Akasha. My partner and I recently had to move out of the area, and while Crystal Lake is a great suburb that we will miss, what makes us most sad about the move is that we can no longer take classes at Akasha. I would highly recommend this place for anyone interested in giving yoga a try, or for any yoga pros looking for a great place to practice. read more

There is nothing about Akasha Yoga that I don't love. The atmosphere is perfect, the practice room is so peaceful and beautiful with a big chandelier and draping fabric to create the right vibe. The instructors are so knowledgeable and really help you get more from your body. I usually practice yoga at home so whenever I take a class I enjoy getting coached on my poses and how they can be better or what I can do to help myself. After class, they have different teas set out and you can brew your own and take it with you in a to-go cup. Great job Akasha! read more

I joined Akasha a few months ago, and it's fantastic. The teachers are great and supportive and they have a wide selection of classes and a pretty convenient schedule. The teachers also do a great job of mixing the poses from class to class to keep everything from getting boring. They also have a number of events to develop a sense of community in the studio... I feel great (happier, less stressed) after every class! read more

Not for anyone looking for a rigorous, non-carpeted floor practice. Go to MELT in Algonquin if you are looking for a more rigorous practice lead by kinder people with better business practices. I LOVE it there! Also, the Yoga lounge in Woodstock is a beautiful studio with mellow classes and a great vibe. read more

Akasha Yoga is a fantastic place - They offer a variety of classes for every level, skill, body type, etc. They also have quite a few events that they hold several times each month and have a wellness center and shop area on-site also with hard-to-find products for sale. I've taken yoga classes with their instructor, Denise, who is awesome. Very approachable and very knowledgable. You leave the classes feeling great, inside and out. They have a great location right in downtown Crystal Lake by the train station - I would highly recommend them to anyone local who is looking to take a real professional yoga class or is even just curious about the benefits that it can provide to them. I was in Crystal Lake visiting family recently, I am from California and we have studios on every corner in the bay area. I was really pleased and just wanted to say if your a local there, it seems your in great hands and if your visiting the area, this is a great studio for drop ins. I am not 100% sure but I think the class was taught by Laura, it was a nice mix of clear directions and a some hands on. She was somewhat pregnant, but she still got in there. Only suggestion is I wish they sold hand towels and accesories, I would have bought one... But they did have mats for guests, and plenty of props ... What a great place to explore better health! I have had several surgeries (two neck fusions, knee reconstruction, and a fractured low back) and commonly have pain after trying new exercise programs. I have been working privately with Jennifer for a few months and am amazed at the results! I can now attend group classes and know exactly what postures I should and should not attempt. We are always cautiously pushing my boundaries and bringing my body to the next level. I am very grateful to have found this gem in downtown Crystal Lake. read more

Had a very positive introduction to yoga at this very cool looking yoga studio. All teachers/instructors are not created equal so I recommend trying different instructors until you find one that complements your own personal needs and style. Great introductory specials. My favorite yoga studio of all time!! I have been going to Akasha for nine years and went from knowing absolutely nothing about yoga to being absolutely addicted to it. I cannot say enough about this place. There are several classes to choose from so I started with Light and Easy and now attend Challenge classes and several other levels depending on my schedule. It is not just a place to exercise. It is a community of like-minded people. It is a peaceful, joyful safe haven where I recharge and leave feeling like I can take on the world every single time. I have been going to Akasha for approximately 7 years. It is an excellent place for yoga. I have taken classes from different instructors and all are very good in their different ways. There is a strong emphasis not only on the poses but on the spiritual aspects of yoga and the studio has a great vibe. I highly recommend this studio for beginners or advanced. Though if you are advanced, make sure you check the class schedule to find the appropriate level. read more
