What a lovely experience. I had heard great things about this shop from my fellow historical…read morereenactors, and since I'm shopping for fabric for my wedding outfit- which is based on our reenactment place and timeline- I figured this would be a great place to try. From the moment Mom & I walked in, we had great interactions with the staff. The lady at the register by the door asked what we were looking for; when I told her we were there for my wedding dress fabric, she said, "well, we aren't going to have a lot of conventional wedding dress fabric." "I know, that's why we're here!" "Oh... reenactors?" "Yep!" We were directed to the fabric room and were immediately assisted by a wonderful woman (whose name I have sadly forgotten!), who was tremendously knowledgeable, very helpful, very pleasant, very kind, and very happy to be helping me with this project! She was also great about educating me on their class offerings- including rug braiding, which I am interested in learning. I had gone on their website ahead of time to get some product numbers to look at. The aforementioned employee produced the desired fabrics in a jiffy, even educating me on the washable properties and showing me swatches of my chosen fabric that had already been washed and somewhat felted. Lucky me, the fabric I chose was on sale! Yay! We were cashed out at the register in an efficient manner. Overall, this was a great experience and I have already recommended Dorr Mills to other friends in the reenactment community.

Like many small towns I've visited before and grew up in there is always a store that sells…read morehandmade crafts. What makes this store better then most of the others is the variety and craftsmanship that can be seen throughout. It also doesn't hurt that you are greeted by the happiest and sweetest dog there upon entering the store. The store itself was beautifully maintained and organized. It had a flow to it that just drew you to ever corner. From the front display of handcrafted metal worked lights to the far back of the store's amazingly knitted coats and hats there is something for everyone to see and purchase for a country home. There is a wide variety of kitchen items such as cutting boards and cheese knives that match with the wood fire glazed pottery. Across from the pottery and kitchen items was a knitting selection of mushrooms and other out there figurines such as fish and sock monkeys. But, the crown jewel of the store in my opinion has to be the jewelry. These items which ranged from necklaces to ear piercings are all handcrafted and beautifully worked. Every case had the name of the crafter on it and the store owner could provide you with more info upon request. Overall this is 1 of 2 stores that should be on everyone's must view list when visiting the town of Woodstock, VT.
