I've gone to this chiropractor for 20+ years. They use a machine called the Pro-Adjuster that gives…read morethe best adjustments I've ever had. Having said that... recently my insurance changed and I have Medicare as my 2nd insurance (my primary insurance is thru my husband's employer). I admit that having Medicare as 2nd is not very common and billing is more complicated, BUT it is their job to know how to do it. Well I found out that several of my claims from 10 months ago still have not been paid because they didn't do it correctly. So... they wanted ME to pay for those charges. I told them no, that they needed to correct their claim and re-bill, that it wasn't my responsibility (in fact on the EOB from Medicare it stated that they couldn't bill me for those charges). Well they weren't very happy with me, so the next time I made an appointment for an adjustment they asked me to sign a Medicare form stating that they had reason to believe Medicare wouldn't pay for this and that I agreed to pay. I asked them why all of a sudden they think Medicare won't pay, they said regulations changed and they never know when Medicare will reject a claim. I asked (the doctor) if they were having ALL Medicare patients sign this form and he wouldn't look me in the eye when he said "Pretty much" so i looked at him and said "Pretty much??" and then he admitted that it was just me - because they have had "problems" with me in the past. At that point I knew that they were blaming me for their billing incompetence and if I did sign that form they could code any future adjustments in a way that WOULD get a denial and they WOULD make me pay. So I walked out without treatment. That was 4 days ago... Ironically today I got a check in the mail today paying for those adjustments. They finally got it right. - The billing part anyway... but they got it wrong on the customer service.
