Ive been dealing with stomach problems for nearly my whole life, i have a medical history, this guy spends less than 5 minutes with me, rushes through everything and then orders a colonoscopy and an ultrasound which i already know will show up clean, and his staff is apparently unaware that altamed, despite appearing on all the paperwork, has nothing to do with my health insurance. I can't be the only one who is misled by the fact that altamed appears on all the Medi-CAL paperwork but no one seems to know that they have nothing to do with anything. No one. Not even them. Who doesn't sedate you fully 3 Where you can literally feel the total experience!! 4 Scream in Pain!! 5 And still doesn't check with you once the procedure is completed. Then you're in Luck. I do not recommend this gastroenterologist. From the first visit, he did not review my medical history or understand why I was there. He did not allow me to fully explain my symptoms and immediately ordered a colonoscopy. At the follow-up appointment, he again seemed unaware of my case and considered prescribing more antibiotics, despite my history clearly showing that excessive antibiotic use was part of the problem. In the end, he said he could not do anything and sent me back to my primary care doctor, causing me to lose several months before I could see another specialist. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!! I had my first appointment yesterday 12/23/24 with this unprofessional, rude Doctor!!! He would not listen to me, I couldn't get a word in edgewise, he left the door open while speaking to me so everybody could hear our conversation which, when you are discussing your health. It is a HIPAA violation!! I kept closing the door and he kept opening it!!! So unprofessional!! Although the ladies at the front desk were very nice, and understanding...when I left, I told them how rude he was and they just told me that I could call my insurance and get another referral to another doctor, which is exactly what I'm going to do!! I'm not usually the type to bad right reviews but this is something I cannot ignore. This is the worst "doctor" I've meet if you keep Mumtaz Akarm in your facility (906 south sunset ave suiit 104 West Covina 91710) Any longer this place will sink because of his lack of professionalism. Keep in mind the nurses front desk staff were super nice and great, helpful amazing. Unlike the doctor.. I spent more then $50 dollars for an Uber ride there and back because I couldn't take my car. It was such a waste of money only to be ignored the second I waited for him I heard a big sigh and I knew in that moment I wasn't going to get good service. All this doctor do was disregard what the nurses wrote of why I came and what's the issue and asked me again and didn't listen at all touched my stomach a few times and talked over me. I told him my normal doctor told me to take peppermint oil capsules to ease the symptoms of ibs and stomach issues and he said "what is that , no I don't know what is ! " it's a common supplement people use for stomach issues. It just showed how he didn't know anything. He didn't run any test ask me any further questions which was so sad for me because it took a long time to even get this appointment knowing I have bigger stomach issues and nothing was done from this unprofessional doctor he needs his license stripped because all he did was take 2 mins in the room ignore me disregarded everything I said and give me a prescription of Metamucil and walked away I just know he don't give a thing about this job or making people feel better he just wants to get his check and leave which is something most people can do but not a doctor who people are relying on !. This Metamucil fiber is Something I could of gotten from the store and this wouldn't even fix no issue I have with my stomach at all I left frustrated and sad and upset knowing that my issue and health wasn't any closer to being resolved and I waisted months tryna to wait for this appointment I asked the nurse for a card to make sure I get his name and right a review about this "Doctor mumtaz " great workers and nurses but horrible doctors weighing this place down. read more

DO NOT COME HERE! We came here after we switched insurance from Kaiser. My husband has been in pain, unable to eat, vomiting and missing work so we were in desperate need for answers. We let Mumtaz know that he had already had an endoscopy and colonoscopy done through our previous provider where they found nothing. We told him he had all the signs of bile reflux gastritis and asked he order an esophageal pH test. He refused and said he didn't believe in it. We refused since the test had already been done. He became rude and degrading telling his front desk staff "where did you find these people? They don't even have insurance" when we do in fact do. This seems to be a common occurrence with him as his reviews all say the same thing. This man should be stripped of his license. read more

Biggest uncaring A-hole on the planet. I am filing a grievance with my insurance company and I am leaving my regular doctor for even recommending me to go see him. This specialist wouldnt let me get a word in edge wise, wouldnt try any alternative options with me, he just wanted to do a lower gi right off the bat and wouldnt even try anything else then he said come on, come with me were done you go now...... He kicked me out!! I am still in disbelief how this doctor still has a license. My handicap and incontinent 89 year old mother had a doctors appt with him at his West Covina office. She was in alot of pain. She can't walk and is incontinent. I had to get her up on his high table. She had a soiled Depends and when he walked in the room said he had no staff to change her and that he wasn't going to see her, by any means. He didn't read her chart and wanted to just hand me a prescription for her rectum, the same cream she already has and uses. That is all he would say. He said he wasn't a surgeon. When I asked could he recommend one he just flipantly said, there are alot out there and left the room with her screaming in pain. He should not only loose his license but also the building was so filthy and loud from construction, it should be torn down. read more

Being a new patient, I was not feeling well (hence why I made the appointment), was very nervous and anxious, and just wanted to get to the bottom of things. But, upon my arrival, I was not greeted with smiling faces or even acknowledged. Why is it that these doctor office gals can rarely ever make a patient feel welcomed with a simple greeting? I was up and down to provide them documents instead of all at once, the wait to be seated in the exam room was not too long, but then came the wait in the exam room to see the doctor. It felt like a long time because I was so anxious, but then the doctor came in and was emotionless and not very comforting. I felt like a lab animal that was being examined, instead of a human being. Like I wad just another body. I can say that the doctor seemed to have extensive knowledge and experience once he started to explain my options and our next steps. This is when I felt that we were now staring to get somewhere. I was only able to asks few questions and then our visit was done. The doctor disappeared and I was left to the office gals mercy to answer my final questions that were not addressed. All in all, this could have been a better first visit, but Dr. Akram is very knowledgeable and experienced. That is why I stuck with him and he has seen me through some uncomfortable times and procedures. Just don't expect to feel the warm and fuzzies from this office staff. read more

I scheduled an appointment for a consult as a new patient. The office staff was friendly. The office appeared to be clean, although outdated. I arrived 15 minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork. FYI - this office only takes cash or check for co-payments. After taking my vitals, I was seated in a patient room where I waited for 54 minutes for the doctor. He wasn't even in the office. The office staff kept going to the back to see if he had yet arrived. After he arrived, he came straight to my patient room without washing his hands, and was very disheveled. He asked me two questions and recommended a colonoscopy. When I tried to tell him my symptoms, he interrupted telling me he would be able to see that in the colonoscopy. He said the front office staff would give me all of the details and left the room. He was with me for 2 minutes after I'd waited for 54 minutes and did not even allow me to tell him what was wrong. What a waste of a co-pay! Methinks I will see a consult with another doctor. No way do I want this guy doing a colonoscopy on me. Sad state of the medical practice. read more
