You know, menus, servers, the whole shebang. What I got was more of a "choose your own adventure" dining experience -- but with surprisingly good food. Let's be clear: the food? Excellent. Whoever's back there in the kitchen deserves a gold star and maybe a cheeky raise. Burgers? Juicy. Chips? Crispy. Portions? Generous enough to make you question your life choices halfway through. But here's the twist -- it's basically self-service. You want a pint? You get up. Cutlery? Go fetch. Table cleared? You're on your own, soldier. I half expected to be handed a mop and a staff badge on the way out. One more step and they'll have you washing your own dishes and clocking in for a shift. That said, the vibes are great. It's casual, friendly, and full of locals who clearly know the deal. Just don't go in expecting fine dining -- unless your idea of fine dining includes ordering at the bar like it's a school canteen with beer. In summary: come for the food, stay for the slightly confusing service model, and leave with a full belly and a mild identity crisis. 4 stars - would dine again (but might wear an apron just in case).

Real big. They say they have 27 television screens (a necessity during the world cup) and without counting, I'd tend to believe it. It's a Belhaven pub, a chain that seems to be increasing it's foothold recently. I'd go as far as to say this would be treated as the figurehead of the Belhaven chain, especially in the Glasgow area. I can't fault it. The staff were friendly, the drinks were fairly cheap, the atmosphere was fine... but it was just a bit... I don't know - clinical? There was that "IT" factor missing from the place that made me want to rush back. I think I may know what it was... I cast a longing glance along the road to The Doublet, one of my favourite haunts, as I went inside. I wanted to be there. There's something unique about that wee place. And therein lies the problem with The Old Schoolhouse. Bar the size of it, there's practically nothing unique. You could be in any pub, in any city, anywhere. Nothing wrong with that, and I wouldn't avoid it, but this is the very definition of a middle-of-the-road three star review.

Although, you may get some strange looks when you first arrive as it is very much a local place, with local people inside. However, after a few you do certainly feel the atmosphere becoming friendlier. It has clean, modern decor and a slightly-raised area filled with comfy leather sofas at the back as well as standard table and chairs through out. The best features are the juke box situated right beside the bar and the range of malt whisky's that are cheap as chips! While there is no smoking area as such, there are a couple of wooden benches on the street outside (and some big buckets of sand as bins) for customers to use. Parking may be tricky due to this pub being right on a busy main road with double yellow lines. Although, I'm sure if you don't mind a little walk you could easily find a parking space on one of the surrounding streets. There are regular nights such as quiz and karaoke. Though, I would suggest you avoid the latter, especially if you are on the more sober side of things.

Last night was their re-launch that l attended with a friend that just arrived in town, at the door there must have been 10 members of staff trying to tempt passers by to come in with free shots of liqueur. On entering the bar took twenty minutes to be served despite the bar looking rather quiet, this was due to the bar staff being outside handing flyers to people leaving only a couple of staff to serve customers. It was obvious that there was no direction here or leadership from management as it was impossible to get served due to the amount of staff congregating at the opposite end of the bar, like a lot of customers we left after one drink. Music was really good whoever was the DJ was, and that's why we stayed to be served, but sadly gave up as we could not get any service from staff. Bar was warm with plenty of heaters around the ceiling of the bar area. Overall music I would score a 5/5 The service was a let down. 1/5

Loving this place thesedays…read more Been a few times before for functions, but have been enjoying a mid week trip for food using my beloved Snapfax to lubricate the experience. Super nice and cosy with good tunes and great service. Always quiet enough to get served quick and be able to have a good chat without feeling like folk are listening in to your conversation. Well stocked bar as well where their recent £2 a drink for January promo was a delight. New food and cocktail menu promised soon but I sure hope they don't get rid of their amazing mains! Love that steak! Excellent value for money, with few joints on Sauchiehall Street able to rival the food at this price.

Pub contains a large circular bar surrounded by various table and chairs providing ample seating for patrons. The Walls are littered with large screen tv's making it an ideal pub for a pint during televised sporting events. The downside to all the good points is however: since its take over by Belhaven brewary several years ago the staff are notoriously difficult & disinterested serving & more interested in chatting amungst themselves. However if you can perservere despite the useless staff this is one of Paisley's better pubs.

Listed in the good beer guide - it has been a real ale haven in the cider/lager fuelled town of Paisley. The beer is well kept and the crowd is mainly locals. The pub does not have a lot of student patrons due to its "old man" pub reputation. BTW - the map is messed up for this pub. It is west of the centre of Paisley on the High St (not in Johnstone) near the Paisley Library and Museum.

The lack of a refit has left the wooden features intact and it cries out for a good old fashioned smoky ambiance.

The pub serves a good range of pub grub and has some good offers like 2 for 1 on steaks, so it is easy to eat very reasonably indeed here. On Saturday nights there is karaoke - I'm not a big fan but my sister is and she likes to drag me along there so she can belt out a few numbers.
