Been here many times didn't think I needed to add another review but got something new to add. Besides the Full House show that everyone comes for the opening sequence show, this time I came for a special Fnnch pop up museum in one of the Victorian houses of his 160 honey bear themes. Cute bears that bring a smile to your face is happy art. A little background of this contemporary artist ‍ where fnnch creates street art and murals using multi-layered stencils and spray paint. He calls his work "contemporary pop art" . If you are lucky to live in a city where his art mysteriously pops up then you are lucky. His public art can be found in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Chicago, St. Louis, Tel Aviv, Hong Kong and other random places like private collections. Street art is fun because when you see it, you get excited! I love the Honey Bears theme and makes one feel happy when looking at it. Also going inside an abandoned Victorian house was fun and exciting where you don't get to do that often. So when the opportunity to do both I jumped at the chance with great art and architecture. read more

Alamo square was filled with people today, especially when it's sunny day. Walked up the stairs at Grove street and you'll find the children's playground on your left center and next to it are the public restrooms. As the park is elevated, you'll find different views of the city at the northern end of the park on the right. As I walked around, there were plenty of dogs off leashes at the dog park. The Eastern side of the park is the best area to view the iconic Painted Ladies on Steiner or aka Post Card Row. The Painted Ladies are 6 cookie cutter houses, well known for its Victorian architecture. This Eastern view was also the back drop for the "Full House" sitcom and draws many fans of the sitcom as well as tourists and locals alike. A wonderful park for everyone to enjoy! read more

Alamo Square is a charming park right across from the iconic Painted Ladies, offering picturesque views and a relaxing atmosphere. The park features walking paths, benches, and plenty of open space to take in the scenery. Getting up to the area is a bit of a workout, as the park is on a steep hill, but the effort is worth it. If you climb the stairs and follow the trail all the way to the top, you'll be rewarded with a fantastic view. It's a great spot for photos, especially at sunset when the skyline lights up. I walked here from Japantown, which took about 15-20 minutes. Even when visiting at night, the area felt relatively safe, with a steady flow of people around. It's a peaceful place to take a stroll, enjoy the views, and soak in a classic San Francisco experience. read more

Came here looking for the Full House homes. Found street parking. Beautiful view. Then saw they also have a playground. My kid loved it. Very cute also as it's designed looking like the roofs of the homes. They have an area for smaller kids and an area for bigger kids. Not very new looking but still fun to play. The beautiful Alamo Square Park was built by Mayor James Van Ness in 1856. The park was named for the lone cottonwood tree in its center, which in Spanish is alamo. In the early 1800's there was a watering hole on Alamo hill, on the horseback trail from Mission Dolores to the Presidio. Mayor Van Ness wisely chose to turn it into a 12-acre park encompassing four city blocks. I've always lived around the park, currently on Hayes Street, right near the popular southeast entrance to the park, where tourists arrive to enjoy the city skyline behind the seven painted ladies. Strangely enough, while the southern side of the park is often crowded with people, the northern side is often quite devoid of people, so its where I go when I want to have a picnic on the grass. read more

Just call me Quintin Tyler Moore... Except I didn't toss my hat in the air lol. My buddy Dan wanted to show me the iconic Full House Houses also known as the Fuller House Houses but more traditionally as the Painted Ladies (historical landmarks series of homes), the view of these collection of homes (seven) is impressive but so is Alamo Square and the area itself. Nice pathways, green enough greenery, various sports courts (especially tennis) and some easy park guides, guidelines and areas to relax and enjoy. Dan told me at one point they had a garden of shoes filled with plants, we didn't find them... I believe the city deemed them non biodegradable or eco friendly enough, but anything you re-purpose into something positive for the community is in fact good for the environment as well as others especially when plants are planted to grow out of them creating more oxygen, life and vibrancy. That lacey let down aside we had a great time taking it in. The playground seemed very nice for kids and families, pet friendly, lots of row to walk and less of a incline...though still one. Parking is an adventure... While there is loads of it on the street the passenger side of your car may by against an elevated sidewalk on many sides of the street. Q Tip: You'll have to let people out before you park and pull out before they get back in when you're ready to leave. Coyote Alert signs with some tips for keeping your distance, not feeding and leaving your dog or pet on leash and in your possession. People space themselves out in terms of picnics, leisure, workouts, etc... However there is less room at this cozier community park in SF's Alamo. One can enjoy the park as early as 5AM and as late as midnight which is rare, but very cool. This weekend - we danced. This weekend we gathered on top of Alamo Square - in the unique embrace of the uncharacteristically warm weather in San Francisco. As our DJ donned a big smile - we all moved together - beneath the star filled skies and surrounded by majestic Monterey cypresses. The leaves of the cypresses gently moved to the soft breeze, accentuating the contrast of the Painted Ladies - sitting pretty in front of the twinkling city landscape. A young man sat solo on a park bench, taking puffs of a hookah pipe. Others lay in the grass, holding handing with loved ones, or sharing stories with friends. Others just stood there - looking onto the city with deep reverence and blissful smiles. People descended from all over - to the top of Alamo Square Park this past Saturday night. Alamo Square is a cool park in the neighborhood with the same name. It's most known for being across the street from the Painted Ladies homes and is also a great place for a picnic and to relax. There were picnic tables, tennis courts, a playground, and lots of grassy areas. Parking can be difficult to find with just street parking in the area. There were a lot of people taking pictures, but it's less busy on the other side of the park away from the houses. There were restrooms although they weren't particularly nice. The rest of the park was well-maintained though. read more

Alamo Square Park is one of those spots that feels like quintessential picturesque San Francisco we've seen in media. The view of the Painted Ladies is iconic, and it's always a joy to sit on the grass and take in all the tourists snapping pictures. There's also a cute little coffee cart here in the mornings, serving up delicious brews that make the whole park feel a little more like a cozy neighborhood hangout. I've spotted so many Anna's Hummingbirds and SF Parakeets here atop the giant cypresses--if you're into birdwatching, this place is a hidden gem! If you're into dog watching, you're also in luck. Besides the nature and wildlife, there are tennis courts and designated picnic areas. The park is just a short walk from Divisadero Street, so you're right by some of the best shops, cafes, and restaurants in the city. I've spent a time or two in Alamo park over the years; whether it was an after-party from a visit to a popular joint on Divisadero, a walk-through on a miles-long hike (my last one was from the Financial District to the Golden Gate and back, via the Yoda statue... IYKYK), or just a mental health siesta coupled with a good plantar fasciitis stretch, Alamo Park and me are pals. Most recently, I stopped in here after a nice meal and a delicious seltzer or two, and found a shady spot at the little picnic tables near the top of the park... by "shady," of course, I mean it was like, 11 P.M. at night, so no sun to speak of. But the lights of the City, the sodium halide lamp-glow partially illuminating the Painted Ladies in clear view, and the soft red glow of assorted things being burned by people sitting all around me was enough to see, feel, hear, and experience this place with good company, in that place between places. Heck, anyone who has sat here long enough can tell you, "When you're lost out there and you're all alone, a light is waiting to carry you home." And there's something to the notion of just BEING in that place, recognizing that that's enough for the briefest of moments. No need to DO anything. Isn't that what Alamo park is for? It's one of countless spots in the City to just experience SF from a different angle, a unique vantage point that will literally change in any number of ways the next time you are here... even if you sit in exactly the same physical place. I can't know when I'll be back here, or really, if upon returning, if I'd ever actually REALLY be BACK. Just visiting, again, to see what's still there from the last time I left only footprints and took only memories. Ev'ry Where You Look. I suppose there's only one way to find out, pal. read more

This is a cute little park where you can see the Painted Ladies houses, the ocean, and more. You can relax and have a picnic, enjoy the sunset, or let your kids play at the cool playground! It's also safer and cleaner here than other areas of SF. Hardly any trash on the streets, and really no homeless folks. read more

Came by the other day before dinner and it was a phenomenal experience. Street parking was available a few blocks away. Alamo Square is located on a slight hill that spans a couple city blocks. The park has a dog play area, kids play structure, along with a couple clean bathrooms. Staff is on-site wearing gloves to clean the park. The view from the top of the park is breathtaking and FREE! Remember to bring a jacket as it can get chilly! read more

This is a nice place to come and meet up with friends to hang out. The southeastern end gets very busy with tourists coming to take pictures of the Painted Ladies and the downtown skyline. I love all the Victorian houses bordering the park. In addition to the obvious Painted Ladies there are a lot of other Victorians like the William Westerfield house in the northwest corner which looks very foreboding. It's a block away from Divasadero street so there are all sorts of places to get food and take back to the park like Popeyes, Zaytoon, the Mill, Souvla, Bean Bag Cafe, etc. Lady Falcon coffee truck is onsite every Thursday-Sunday. There are many benches and grassy spots to sit down and enjoy the views and the people watching. I feel this park is good to see and be seen. For a similar type of park but a little less the social scene I'd recommend Lafayette or Alta Plaza Park which are comparable in size but not as busy and hardly any tourists. read more

The view of the Painted Ladies from Alamo Square is iconic and worth a visit, but I was quite surprised by the park's condition. It felt more like an unofficial dog park than a public recreational space. There were many off-leash dogs roaming around without clear supervision -- some jumping on visitors or even trying to eat people's food. While I personally don't mind dogs, I noticed that several people were visibly uncomfortable or scared. It's hard to sit down and enjoy the view or have a peaceful moment when dogs are constantly approaching uninvited. If you're not a fan of dogs or are afraid of them, I'd suggest being cautious or considering a different time to visit. The park really needs better enforcement of leash rules or at least designated dog-free zones so everyone can enjoy the space comfortably. read more

Beautiful views! So peaceful. There's also a dog play area that dogs are allowed to be off leash. I've always had very good experiences every time I've taken my dog. The bathroom is a little gross and parking sucks but it's also worth the walk. I usually find a spot about a block away. read more

It was a gloomy/rainy day so not sure if that's why there was so much parking available around Alamo Square but it was easy to hop out and snap some pictures. Alamo Square Park has beautiful energy both during the daytime and at night. While you will usually encounter a lot of sightseers during the daylight hours, seeing the lights of the San Francisco skyline here at night is something else entirely. It's peaceful and quiet, with fewer people walking through to interrupt a contemplative moment. There seem to be enough lights throughout the park to make it feel safe, while not interfering with the incredible view of the city. This is a good place to take a few minutes and recharge. read more

These days, Alamo Square seems to be geared toward attracting both tourists and dog owners. When I was a youth, this patch of greenery was for family picnics, solo book-reading, and, later in life, day-drinking with friends. One half of the square is now an official dog park, the other half, mostly facing the tourist-friendly view of the Painted Ladies, is an unofficial dog park (read: owners let their dogs romp around here off-leash, too). It's still somewhat nice to sit in the square and relax, but because I've seen the PL view for the past five decades, I really would rather have the option for other views that are now under the jurisdiction of the dog play area. Signage stipulating what is and isn't the dog play area is poorly defined. One isn't always sure where one ends and the other begins. I find that a bit annoying. Additionally, there's a tennis court for those who play, and, when no one is, for those who do stretching exercises in small groups. Just across from the court are public restrooms. There are also a few benches scattered around the green for those who'd like to or need to take a load off. read more

Wonderful views from up here AND if you want to see the "Painted Ladies" you can kill two birds with one stone. The park is really lovely to walk, and on this Saturday there were tons of dogs (I am dog obsessed) so I was in heaven watching them all running around. We had trekked up here to check out the Painted Ladies, but the treat was the views of the skyline (great photos!) and the lovely park itself. Proximity walk to Hayes St. was great for us as well to walk down and have a late breakfast. read more

This is a must see place for anyone visiting San Francisco. It's a nice park that is pretty clean and in a nice neighborhood. Some of the best views of the city are here including the painted ladies houses, which are on full house. We stayed for a picnic for about 30 minutes. Like every kid who grew up in the early 90s, I had a dream of seeing the Full House houses in person. I'd been to San Francisco a few other times but always stayed downtown without a car and Alamo Square was a bit too far out of the way. Finally though I planned a trip to San Francisco with a car and I was able to add Alamo Square to my list of iconic places to visit. The park was smaller than I'd imagine but the view was just as lovely. We found a parking spot on the street right next to the park, which was an added bonus. read more

This is a small little park on the top of a hill. I enjoyed the views of San Francisco from the park. You can see both downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods. A gem in the middle of San Francisco! We came here with some sandwiches for lunch and had a great time taking in a beautiful view of the painted ladies, you can even seen the SF city skyline as well! This place was really crowded on the Sunday afternoon we stopped by, and it felt like a very authentic SF experience and not at all touristy. There were picnic tables and benches, but it gets crowded so it might be nice to bring your own blanket to sit on! We walked up the hill in the park passed the beautiful flowers & shrubbery For the view of the painted ladies. There was an attractive playground with miniature painted ladies for children to play on. Well kept tennis courts and lots of fragrant flowers to enjoy at the top. Fog runs with dozens of beauty dogs. Clean well-maintained with lots of seating and even a coffee food truck. Love the way the city is visible over the Victorian homes.
