Beautiful park by some of the most iconic places in San Francisco. Close by to Grace Cathedral, Fairmont Hotel, the Mark Hopkins Hotel, and the Huntington Hotel. Thus, this park is meticulously manicured and decorated year round, especially stunning during the holidays with decorative lights. Right in the center of the park, there's a fountain here replicated after the Fontana delle Tartarughe (Fountain of the Turtles) in Rome. With how it's laid out, it's picturesque and very popular with locals and visitors. On the side, there's a playground for kids. I remember coming here for Easter egg hunts when I was younger. Now, I bring my pup here occasionally for photos. Located in the middle flanked by 4 streets: California St, Taylor St, Sacramento St, and Cushman St and is reachable by car or via public transportation like the #1 California bus and the cable car - California line. If you choose to walk, you will need to hike up/ or down the hills depending on which directions you are coming from. read more

This is a beautiful park up on the hill in SF. Surrounded by beautiful architecture and walkable to plenty of nice areas. Its not huge but its enough of a place to relax and I believe there are restrooms as well. The only rough part is the walk up the hill if you're out of shape like me. Otherwise, certainly worth checking out. read more

Intimate little park near the fancy historic hotels. Was a result of the 1906 earthquake and a generous donor. Intimate park surrounded by fences. There are some hedges around the perimeter and its a pleasant place to be. Some lawn and a large fountain. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays too which is a plus if you need help getting in the mood. Lots of benches and some play structures. Near the fancy historic hotels. If your here you might be staying at the Fairmont or maybe Hopkins. If you are be sure and walk one block to here so you can see some green grass. Grace cathedral is also across the street - so might be a place before or after if your the church going type. I remember there was a light show here by Illuminate SF - The lights were coming from The Fairmont and and aimed for the stained glass window the church. All the laser lights were overhead directly above this park. It is a sight to see - and these shows and drone light shows seem to be more common in recent times. The 1906 earthquake leveled the mansion that used to be here and the owner 'Huntington' donated the land to the city to be utilized as a park. This part of town seems to have avoided a lot of the crazy and kriminals that are elsewhere.... so enjoy a small walk in the park. read more

My brother's partner was fascinated by all the teenagers taking prom photos. If she only knew? Or maybe she did know, and that's why her son's prom pictures were an event. But at a different location. I know I'm supposed to feel happy that what was once the grounds of one of the elaborate mansions on Nob Hill has been returned to the people. I am glad, but they didn't need to privatize the hill in the first place. I'm not arguing a point. I'm just meh. It really is a beautiful park. I should stop by more often. read more

A park in the middle of Nob Hill? An area known for its luxury hotels and historic mansions that were built by the Big Four railroad tycoon, Stanford, Hopkins, Crocker and Huntington. From the plaque in the park, this was the location of the Huntington Mansion until its destruction in the great 1906 earthquake and fire. The land was donated to the San Francisco to remain in perpetuity as a park for people to enjoy. The park is half a square block bounded with California, Taylor, Sacramento and Cushman Sts. At the center of the park is a grand "Fountain of the Tortoises". With some open grass areas, the park is popular with people walking their dogs, people enjoying the park with its many benches, and parents and their kids playing in the playground on the Sacramento St side of the pork. From the park, you get great view of Nob Hill iconic structures, Grace Cathedral, Mark Hopkins Hotel, Huntington Hotel, and Masonic Auditorium. Cute small neighborhood park across from Grace Cathedral on Nob Hill. Big fountain, grass area, benches, shade, and 2 play structures with slides, climbing ropes, hanging bars, 2 toddler bucket swings, and more! Downside is that there were a lot of unleashed dogs there. I didn't feel safe as they were pretty rambunctious with each other. One of the dogs even charged at my toddler 2 year old and the owner of the dog did nothing to stop her dog. read more

Looking at the fountain, sitting on the wooden benches and the lit cathedral, is serene. Playground is available during the day. Great little "dog park" high up on the hill. The Huntington Park is open for all to enjoy. It's a true treasure, but note it's one of the smallest parks in the city! Yet, I adore this park because of how well maintained it is and how it's tucked between The Fairmont and Grace Cathedral. Huntington Park is a "family friendly" park and of course "dog friendly" too. There's a small children's playground at one corner and a couple of early art deco fountains to enjoy. The park was formerly the site of the mansion of railroad baron C.P. Huntington (yup him again, he also has a waterfall in Golden Gate Park lol); his mansion was destroyed by the 1906 earthquake, however, and his widow donated the property to the city to establish a park in 1915, hence the park's name. This is secretly one of my regular parks that I truly enjoy. Maybe because I used to live just a couple blocks away and enjoyed Grace Cathedral too. I quickly became a regular to just clear my head and watch the dogs and dog owners. Enjoy the little ones playing and actually feeling safe! The park's location being on one of the highest points in the city probably discourages the homeless away. I mean if not riding a cable car who wants to walk up vertical hills just for a park? Sorry just being real. One thing is certain I love how intimate it is, just make sure your pooch is on a leash & you clean up after yourself... read more

A picture perfect park in Nob Hill that is kid-, couple-, singleton- and family-friendly. Huntington Park is situated on the most prestigious hill in San Francisco. Since the silver barons built their mansions here and the cable cars were created to ferry goods up & down, Nob Hill has had a refined vibe. Huntington Park replaced a historic mansion which most likely burned down during the 1906 earthquake. The park itself is an oasis of greenery which has children's swings, climbing structure and sand to entertain youngsters. The fountain of the tortoises is a work of art. What a wonderful place to play while growing up! Dog owners cordially greet other dog owners while their pets rub noses and sniff. On a good day, bring a picnic blanket and sit on the grassy squares and peer West to Grace Cathedral; to the East is the Pacific Union club and the Fairmont & Mark Hopkins hotels. At holiday time (which is now), the park is lit by green and red lights draped throughout the trees. Spectacular at night time. An idyllic park. Any day. Any time. I love it. read more

Gorgeous park on top of Nob Hill. Perfect for families and dogs (welcoming on leashes). The playground is perfect for the little ones. The major hotels are located within a 1 1/2 block distance from here. The place is clean. There is parking available at the Masonic across the street and there is street parking, but since this is Nob Hill, it's more difficult to find. The California cable car drives past the park and you have a great view of Grace Cathedral. The only down side is the homelessness has gotten worse here, so I personally wouldn't recommend hanging out here at night. read more

Huntington Park is nice little park right in front of a pretty nice looking cathedral. One night a few weeks ago my boyfriend and I decided to hit up this place after dinner. We circled a few times & couldn't find parking. We eventually parked in the garage right next to the park. Can't believe that there were so many assigned private spots for the church officials. It was kinda funny and yet kinda annoying. It was drizzling that night but we managed to enjoy the view of water fountain and snapped a couple pics. :) read more

With so many wonderful green spaces in SF, how do you choose a spot for some quality parklife? Well, really, it probably comes down to proximity. But it doesn't hurt when the park is surrounded by beautiful architecture and breath-taking cityscapes. Quite obviously, Huntington Park's proximity to Grace Cathedral provides for an excellent place to rest your gaze. Between the cathedral itself, and all the people activity fluttering around it, you'll have plenty of reasons to look that direction. However, don't forget to do a 360 and take in the rest of the scenery. To the east is the Pacific Union Club in a charming old brownstone. To the south, you get beautiful views of the city (and those NEVER get old). After your park time, you can also walk just a little further east and see the Fairmont (and maybe check out Tonga Room while you're at it.) Finally, unless you're coming from the most immediate (north) area, you also likely get a nice exercise walking up one of many steep streets. Not every steep street in SF leads to such a reward, so savor it and enjoy the park for all that it's worth. read more

Every now and then I feel guilty about raising the kid in a studio apartment with zero outdoor space. Twice a year we visit Grandma and Grandpa in L.A. and the munchkin gets to experience an enormous backyard with fruit trees, grapevines, a gazebo, flower gardens and a fountain; for months thereafter I have to listen to whining along the lines of "Mommy, I wanna move to Los Angeles!" and "Mommy, I wish we had a backyard!" Now that she's getting older and wiser, she's starting to understand when I explain that, while we may not have our very own backyard, we DO have four parks within a 10-minute walk from home. So, in essence, we have FOUR backyards. The most scenic of which is Huntington Park. Huntington Park is a postage-stamp-sized park at the foot of Grace Cathedral and the Huntington Hotel. The kid doesn't remember, but there are pictures of her in the "baby swings" at 8 months - all chubby thighs and new teeth and hanging on for dear life - then, 4 months later and just days away from her first steps, propped up against one of the fountains in her birthday dress. Since then she has grown to brave first the slide and then the jungle gym by herself. Most recently, a few days ago, she surprised me by going back and forth across the monkey bars with no spotter. Right now the trees are blossoming. In 6 months or so the leaves will turn. A couple of months after that the trees will be decked out with colorful Christmas bulbs...the big, old-fashioned kind. There isn't a day of the year when the park isn't beautiful in some way. Lucky for us, it's practically right in our own backyard. read more

Whenever I'm in the area, I always make it a point to stop and spend some time at Huntington Park. Despite the grand surroundings, this park feels cozy. Especially with the orchard style trees that filter the noise of California street, I can have a relaxing time sitting on the bench, watching the very toned (and tanned) half naked runner stretching in front of the fountain or talk to one of the well dressed rich ladies who walk their Maltese poodle on the grass. And when you get tired staring at the opulent buildings around you, head inside Grace Cathedral to get a pick me up at Peet's Coffee, Snob Hill's best kept secret. read more

The day was so sunny and bright as we walked through the park. The maid was still cleaning our room at the hotel so we needed to kill some time. We started on the playground side of the park where some moms and kids were having lunch in the shade. The white blossoms were billowing and bright all around the park. It was a quintessential spring afternoon. As we approached the center fountain we grabbed a seat under one of the blossoming trees and people watched. Its amazing how people from all walks of life can just sit there in complete serenity. There were kids playing in the fountain, well taking a Halloween pumpkin and dumping water all around the place. It looked fun at least. Some local artists had some art up on display and we walked through and checked some out. With all the art up there wasn't as many dogs as I have normally seen here. I love when all of the dogs are romping around and playing. Once a few years ago we took our dog out at 3am to this park. One day you should come here in the wee hours of the morning. Its so quiet. You wouldn't think such a place could exist in a hustling bustling city. Its just wonderful here. read more

As a perpetual dog park creeper, I fully approve of Huntington Park. Along with being able to see about 7834654923 million cutie pie pups in this somewhat small topiary enclosed park, it's got benches, fountains and well kept grounds, and the sunlight peeks through the cathedral to hit it just right, so you can feel like your basking in unseasonably warm San Fran sun. And though seeing the dogs is definitely my #1 priority along with being the main contributing factor for why I like Huntington Park so much, there is one thing that really caught my eye as I left the park that made me fall in love. The stairs. The park is elevated above the sidewalk level so the people with screaming, snot nosed children in double wide strollers that take up the entire sidewalk can't get up there, making it safe for single non-breeders like myself to enjoy a quiet afternoon of puppy peeping in peace. read more

This is one of my favorite parks in the city. It's on the smaller side, but it has a lot to offer. There's an area for kids to play, on sunny days you can bring a book and lay out in the sun. If you have a dog it is very very dog friendly. All the neighbors get together around 4/5 - 6pm to let the dogs play. All the dogs are very friendly. The park is not completely enclosed, but has tall hedges that border the edges. These hedges are beautiful and Grace's Cathedral across the street truly elevates the space. It's also a prime location being in the center of many famous hotels and if you're a martini fan they will not disappoint. I would recommend this park to anyone taking a stroll in the neighborhood. read more

Great little neighborhood park where all the locals take their kids and dogs! It's clean and peaceful, doesn't feel weird or anything. Although there might be some sketchy characters walking around occasionally. I take my dog here during the day, because it's close to our hotel and there isn't a big crowd of people. Most people are friendly and nice. However, I definitely have never taken my dog out to this park at night past 8 pm. read more

Park was really beautiful with great views as well as a cute kids park play area. Although it's an on-leash park, many dogs were not on leash. The vast majority of dogs seemed well supervised and posed no threat. There was a group of what appeared to be friends with various little sized dogs socializing which all appeared harmless and well trained. I visited this park being out of town just picking up a service dog still in-training to slowly acclimate him to the presence of other dogs/parks/pigeons and anything he usually would not see. We picked this park in particular since it said it was an on-leash park. One dog tried to approach us, a man with what I think was a black/white border collie off leash but the owner called the dog and it immediately retreated as commanded. Very well trained dog. We were standing far off from the other dogs just to get our new service dog to slowly acclimate to the new surroundings and when I turned around, an off leash older English Bull dog was trying to sniff our service dog. Keep in mind our dog has a bright orange vest saying "Service dog in training". I asked the woman to get her dog, I was uncomfortable with its approach -- she was unable to control her dog (as in, if you call your dog off it needs to listen and if it does not -- its not in your control). I explained I was uncomfortable with her dog. The dog continued to ignore its owner, I retreated to the edge of the park slowly backing away saying "no" to this lady's dog. The owner was irritated telling me her dog had a "mellow zen vibe", but I explained this was a training exercise and that I didn't "know her" just like she "doesn't know me". She then proceeded to tell me all dogs are off leash and I was an "f-ing psycho and my dog would be a f-ing psycho" too and it just kept going. So, if you do decide to go -- watch out for that mellow zen vibe English bull dog. The dog may be wonderful, but I would shy away from the owner.....she may bite you or at least swear at you calling you names. read more

My first stay in lower Nob hill after many visits to San Francisco. It's not far but it's a climb up to this park. It has a decent fountain and park to sit and relax with a playground for kids. It's next to Grace Cathedral, Huntington Apts? and is really a nice view of the city if you stand by the road. Friendly residents sunning or tourists on the way up or down the hill are who you would see here. It's also next to an old club. Snobby hill is more an apt description of the area because of its former and current residents being on the wealthy side. If you need somewhere quiet away from the hustle and bustle of Union Square and a higher view of San Francisco, this is a good spot. Bring a sandwich and a drink and relax. The climb down was much easier on this tired knees. Next visit, I will bring Apricot and Brian up here for a nice break. Oh and it is on a cable car route so if you can't stand the climb, take the cable car back down. read more

This park is excellent and looks really cool during Christmas with the green & red lights. There's a lot of open space and the surroundings around the park is remarkable. The surroundings are nice and it's safe to be in the park at night (past 9pm). Moreover, there are still people inside the park or jogging around the perimeters at night. The fountain in the middle of the park looks really nice too, especially in the evening. The downside here is there are no bathrooms to use, but there is a water fountain on the street side of Grace Cathedral. I'm a bit disappointed that they built a new play-structure a few years back. They got rid of the swings and the monkey bars, but installed a ladder that curves 90 degrees to the ground. read more

I pass Huntington Park frequently but yesterday in the late afternoon I decided to stop in and get a closer look. I had hoped to swing on the swings but they were occupied with children so I simply took in the scenery --- well-groomed folks with their equally maintained dogs, the gorgeous "Fountain of the Tortoises" (fully restored to the tune of $400,000), the towering hotels that surround the square. With sixteen benches, there's plenty of room to sit and think. read more

This is a lovely sunny little park, with manicured lawns and gardens. Grace Cathedral makes a grand border on one side. There seems to be no park that you can't bring your dog and let them run wild. I guess that SF dogs are well behaved or you couldn't do this. They're certainly v. cute. I love to watch them, and they always come up to sniff your acquaintance. read more

Just an update: If anything, some of the conditions I described earlier have only worsened with time. As at least one other reviewer mentioned, there are now dog owner/dog walker cliques reminiscent of junior high that can set an unpleasant tone for anyone who wants to enjoy the park for reasons not involving dogs. This is not a dog park. It is a park for people which also allows dogs if they remain on leash and are responsibly taken to pee and poo in a designated area (not among the park's flora) and cleaned up after. There are rules posted and conditions to be met if you bring a dog or dogs here. But, as we're seeing with COVID-19, there are some people who are antisocial and selfish and don't think the rules apply to them. C'mon, City of SF. Place some enforcers to work this beat. Issue some meaningful fines. This situation is so out of control it's hard for the dog-less people who live nearby to enjoy the park when dozens of off-leash dogs are running amok, doing their business wherever (which too often isn't even noticed by the party who brought them, let alone cleaned up...and the odor!), and generally making what would otherwise be a lovely park quite unpleasant. Especially during a pandemic, people need a peaceful, serene place to gather and enjoy a bit of nature. read more

I and my dog coming here at least one time a day. This place is really safe. Sometimes i go to there almost midnight for my dog. Some dog's owner are there too for same reason. Reading a book, eat a lunch, take a nap, or just sitting.. If you need green and relax come to here. You can drive up, MUNI up, or Cable Car up, but I usually walk up to the park. From Mason Street, the hill is ridiculously steep, from Taylor Street, even steeper. So steep, there are steps on the sidewalk! If your legs and lungs can handle it, go for it. I grew up coming to this park, so the walk up is no biggie to me. My out-of-town friends were actually the ones who pointed out how abnormally steep the surrounding hills are. Still, I think the walk up is part of the attraction. When you reach the top, look back at what you've accomplished and you'll notice a pretty darn good view! Again, I grew up coming to this park, so, I love it! It's small with a couple of playgrounds and a couple of fountains. I went from the little kids' playground to the bigger kids' playground. I used to climb around the fountains AND my Mommy used to let me!!! I recall staring at the many penises of the fountains and getting a kick out of it. I recall stealing coins from the large fountain, while trying to duck from my Mommy's view. As an adult, after many years of not visiting the park, I went one night while drunk (seems like I used to do A LOT at night while drunk) and swung on the swings. It had been awhile since I even sat on a swing so you know I had a ball. We couldn't stop laughing...hard, stomach-crunching laughs! Of course, I've returned many times after that night. I can't recreate the laughter of that first night back, but I still have a great time each time. Ooh, I think San Francisco vampires congregate here! One night we saw a young woman floating by with a hooded black cape and a candle. She stared at us while gliding by...kinda spooky, but totally worth seeing again! Although fun and nostalgic, it loses a star for being located in such a boojie area. Not a lot of selection for food. Sometimes I like going to places and having last minute picnics. Not enough affordable options in the area for that. Boojie doesn't stop there...the No Ma'am Club that's located right by the park, ew! Beautiful building, but after working this many years with the homeless and extremely low-income population, seeing how rich folks spend their time and money kinda piss me off. read more

This park has a playground and a water fountain in the middle of it. It also has a lot of dogs because many dog walkers bring the dogs here to play. If you are a dog lover, you won't mind that almost all the dogs here are off their leashes (even though signs say to keep the dogs on leashes). Surrounding the water fountain are many benches to rest on. It is located directly across from Grace Cathedral. A wonderful place to stop and have lunch like we did! Not the SoCal city! This Huntington Park is on the to do of San Francisco's Nob Hill. A very pleasant place to sit in or stroll through. Early most mornings you can sit and watch ( or join in...) elderly Chinese doing Tai Chi. It sits between the Cathedral and the Union-Pacific Club, just west of the Fairmont and Mark Hopkins Hotels. There is a small playground for those who have children in need of burning off energy. read more

My favorite park in the entire world. Well I haven't been to everywhere in the world but this is my favorite park. I grew up a block away and use to come here and play all the time. I love that it is a clean and also has a water fountain surrounded by benches where you can just sit and dog watch. I love dog watching here. When I was little I was able to Easter egg hunt here. It was one of my fondest memories. You can find me here on some afternoons going on a jog. I also love how it is right next to Grace Cathedral with the Fairmont and the Top of the Mark. I like how when it is a nice day you get a nice view of the bay. I love it here! It is soo pretty here during the evening time during Christmas. I like how they put lights in the trees. read more
