If you do get the opportunity jump on board, travelling with them makes a fleshing change to Travel West Midlands. Firstly, they charge much less than TWM and also offer free wifi, just the sort of thing the people of Birmingham need. I was lucky enough to work with this company on a charity event I was organising. I found all of the staff to be very approachable, friendly, knowledgable and professional. This extends from both the office staff to the bus drivers.

This is a welcome change from the ever-increasing fare of the Travel West Midlands buses (I remember when an adult ticket was only 90p and now it's £1.90!). If you like onboard wifi and a smooth ride then I would let this bus drive past (writing my review whilst on the bus was soon abandoned). The bus driver was friendly and he took a call from his mum at a stop which I found endearing (where others may have huffed and puffed). It is less packed than the usual 50 however the smell was very musty (and I never want to be the first person to open a window). I could go on but at the end of the day it takes you from A to B with an extra 90p in your pocket which you wouldn't have had if you'd have taken a ride with its competitors.

There is plenty to do but many of the activities are charged for. The cost of most activities is £1.50 each which I think is reasonable when you haven't had to pay to get in! There is a children's play area which is free of charge as well as beautiful walks around the large lake which is like being at the seaside. Boats are available to hire on both the small and large lakes. The small lake having kayaks suitable for most ages and the large lake offering sailing boats and motor boat rides as well as lessons. There are loads of ducks and swans on the lakes and they don't mind people. A cygnet came right up and let me take a picture of it! We walked along to the railway. We didn't go on the train but we defintely plan on going back to do so. The prices for the trains are really good (£8.45 for a family of 2 adults and up to 4 children for an all day ticket). There are a couple of nice cafes. We had a drink in Alfie's by the train station which is a bar and cafe. I was amazed (in a good way) that 2 large glasses of coke was just £2. The food prices were reasonable although we had taken a picnic so we didn't try the food! I could go on about this place forever. It's brilliant and if you don't want to do any of the activities, you won't have to spend anything if you don't want to! The only bad thing I found was that the toilets in the main bit weren't very nice and the only toilets with soap in were at the train station. There are plenty of toilets though so you don't have to come all the way back to the start just to go to the loo which is good!

It may seem a little strange to review a bus route, but this is my most used bus route in…read moreBirmingham. This route runs from the Bullring to Moseley and Kings Heath (and beyond, but I don't travel "beyond") and is incredibly regular. Travel West Midlands fares have increased somewhat since I first moved to Birmingham, but a single is now £2.20 or a daysaver (unlimited bus services) £4.20. The service runs as often as every 6 minutes (and is hardly ever empty in my experience) and actually runs for 24 hours. After 11pm or midnight, it reduces to every 1 hour. You can check the timetable online, via their app or at the stop itself (it has a electronic display which lets you know when the bus is due). To get from the Bullring to Moseley, it takes around 10 - 12 minutes (Kings Heath, around 15). The buses have always been pretty clean when I've used them. As this is a popular route, they tend to update the fleet fairly regularly and keep them all in top order. I've never had a problem with the bus breaking down mid-route (a sight which is fairly familiar on the Birmingham network). Again, I don't use the buses very often - but I will always catch the number 50 when I'm planning on having an evening out in Moseley or Kings Heath. With it's late service, it's reliable and an easy (and cheaper) way to get around.

The 50 is a legend in Birmingham…read more I don't mean the type of legend you describe your mate as when he manages to drink 12 pints and a double curry without being hospitalised. It is the "Most Regular" bus service in Europe which when you are standing waiting for one in horrible traffic seems unlikely. But during the day there is pretty much one at the Birmingham City Centre terminus by Selfridges almost non-stop. It's a legend because of the people and they are amazing. There might be someone preaching one minute someone singing another, You get spoken to by the public no matter how much you want them to leave you alone. 2014 saw it become a 24 hour service with hourly busses in the night. It hadn't had a proper night service in years, if ever. Tip: Don't sit by anyone :-)

We booked for family 2adults/2toddlers for airport and where promised an estate in new condition. An old Toyota turned up, barely big enough to take 4cases and the four of us, no booster seats either. Car was grubby inside and out, driver indifferent and had phone and satnav balanced on dash which he fiddled with at 70mph briefly. Stopped before I had a word. Did get text confirming pick up and cab arrived, so that part is accurate. For booked return two weeks later, kept texting for confirmation with no response, had to ring to get an offhand response saying yes booked driver will ring you at/airport,asked for better car but didn't seem to hear me before ringing off. Landed 10min late, 20 min delay food baggage so thirty minbs late for pickup but driver was waiting nearby and turned up in fivemins. But again, old shabby car, just big enough for us, festooned with stanev, phones wired in to cig socket. Again as driving on m6 driver started changing cables THEN checking messages. Had a sharp word and he apologised saying he was only checking they had charged. Seemed ignorant of the law and indifferent to risk and legal rules for taxis. At least he helped with bags on arrival. This company misleads with their advertising in our experience they do not have a modern fleet of clean cars with well trained drivers and built in satnav. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

This is a small and rather specialist business offering training courses for those who drive boats…read moreon the inland waterways. I chose it for its location mainly but it turned out to be a very good day. Rod, the Principal, and the main instructor strikes a good balance between practical and theory, and covered all the expected topics with good humour and clear explanations. The one-day course that I attended took advantage of the location at Stourport to include both the river Severn and the canal. Most such courses would offer one or the other for geographical reasons. Lunch and refreshments were provided on the boat and we enjoyed the personal ition and the boating opportunity. The location is an excellent one with a useful number of navigational opportunities including staircase locks. I would certainly reccommend the Inland Waterways Cruising School
