I went to Allan's today for two reasons. One was to get the brakes bled. Front brake was a little mushy. Justin did an excellent job. However, I was there a week ago and spoke to Steve The manager for a trade.. I told him I needed to sell my ebike before I bought an other Ebike. When I saw him today, he asked me if two people he recommended my bike and were to give me a call. however, I did not receive any calls. We were discussing one of the E bikes there that I really wanted to buy.. They would not take a trade and it was unfortunate because I really was hot on buying one of their ebikes. I asked Justin to take a ride on my bike to make sure everything was OK so I could put it up for sale,. Steve the sales manager, comes out and was violently yelling and screaming at me as he accused me of trying to sell my bike to Justin, which was totally utterly not the case. He threatened me and told me never to come back to the store. He's a marine. I honor his service, but I seriously think there is something wrong and one of the employee says he has PTSD. I feel sorry for him as I respect him however, he was 100% wrong. I gave him the opportunity to calm down and explain himself and he should apologize to me and and work out his misunderstanding. Also, Justin was helping me put the bike on the rack, the bike is about 100 pounds and I couldn't do it by myself and lock it into the bike rack At the same time. It is truly an unfortunate situation, but somebody who has a short fuse should not really be in a public oriented, business and yelling and screaming at customers. I'm not a kid I'm 65 years old just looking to upgrade my e-bike. read more

Brought my two-seat tandem bicycle in for repair at 8:40 in the morning - 20 minutes before opening time - and was out the door within the hour with two new tubes and two new tires. As the owner of a seldom used tandem, I brought the bike in for new tubes and ended up needing two new tires as well. Dry rot will do that to you. Final price was fair and economical. Brought my son's bike in for a new tube/tire (tire is 26" x 4") and was verbally quoted $60-$70 at drop-off. Upon picking up the bike, the total charge for the tube/tire was suddenly $160...!!! I NEVER received a phone call explaining why the cost was now TRIPLE and to see if I still wanted the work done, they just took it upon themselves (Steve & Donna) to do the work. I would not have paid $160. And it's not just about the money. It's about the audacity that they just went ahead and assumed this was okay. I was told the tire itself cost $89. If the tire itself costs $89, then why was I only quoted $60-$70 at drop off? Are they not experts enough to have known this??? When I expressed my shear dissatisfaction, they further insulted me by offering a 10% discount off of the price of the tire only. How insulting! Thanks for offering to take off a whopping $9 off. They should be ashamed of themself! I highly recommend shopping around for another bike shop or finding someone who can do the work for you. read more

About 13 years ago we bought a nice bicycle that still works. But it became noisy last week. It was time to have it checked by the masters. I must say that after reading [terrible reviews...] I got concerned. Decided on Alan's. I find this business clean and neatly arranged with the expected performance. Customer service is a plus. David is not only knowledgeable and competent; he is also bilingual in Spanish, like a native. Their charges for parts and labor are reasonable. What made me stop at Alan's? The day before yesterday I discovered the gears were worn out. Got an instant estimate and the bike went in for gear replacement. Later at home my wife took a ride on it and said, "... I had a new tube and tire installed by Alan's mechanic 3 weeks ago. Today, the tire was flat and I took it to Alan's. That new tube went flat because it was pinched by the metal rim. After a new tube was installed, I asked Alan if he could make good on the replacement tube since his staff originally mounted it. Alan responded that the tube was not defective so I would not get a break on today's replacement. I have bought at least two bikes from Alan over the years, but his decision today did not show business "goodwill" to a repeat customer. read more

Went there yesterday looking for shoes. No one would help me as I waited at least 10 to 15 minutes. Also, all of the shoes were buried behind a row of bikes, so I couldn't even get near them to help myself. I'm here in Vero for three months on a job, but live in CA. The bike shops I go to in Orange County are much better stocked, much better laid out, and have people you can actually speak with. The guys at this shop were more interested in eating their sandwiches than helping me...very sad. I went to Bicycle Sport and bought my shoes. Poor service and does not stand behaving the work that they perform. They put a new tube in a tire and it went flat in two days. There was obviously a small hole in the tube. The bike had never been ridden. I took the wheel back and they said that it was not their fault. I brought another new tube and paid for the tube plus a labor charge to put it on. Never going here again! When I walked in for the first time No one helped me for about five minutes. While I was in the middle of dropping my bike off and picking out parts to add to it an employee of theirs hit on my girlfriend. Then when I go to pick the bike up two days later, there is a charge added for cleaning that I didn't ask for or agreed to. When I asked about the charge Alan himself comes out and talks to me like a child who didn't understand that people work for their money and that I should be grateful to have walked through his door. I left paying too much and pissed off only to find one of the grips was torn when i got home. Granted it was a foam piece of crap, but the employee who loaded it in my car didn't take care enough to notice what he was doing. All in all bad experience and made me mad. Don't go here! read more

I brought my Trek road bike to Alan's after a collision with a garage door. Ouch. Big worries, but no worries. The staff examined the damage, went to work and got it back to me the same day. Thanks, Marlon, for bringing it back to life. BUT a note of caution: while checking out the well-stocked store, my wife spotted a nice "for Florida" Cannondale and with test rides and advice and assistance from Johnny, we bought the bike! The Cannondale is ideal for my wife. I rode the Trek today and it is like new. I hesitated going to Alan's because of more positive Yelps at other area stores. An associate however, recommended Alan's and we're very happy we went there. We found willing and cable staff, good advice from Alan, and speedy service. read more

I brought in a Raleigh to have new gear handles and they said they could not install on current handlebars. There was no legit reason for this (both are straight across). They gave me a price range with new handlebars and said yes: I just needed the bike. Picking it up I found the total above the highest range they told me: over $100 on a $300 bike. I thought I would try again. Can in for a quick tube change. They called 6 days later and said I had to have new tires. When I dropped by they said tires range from $20 to $80 so I know it will be the high range. I asked for just the tube replacement but they said they would only replace the tube if I purchased new tires so I took the bike and left. When you go there you wait and wait to be addressed as if you are intruding. There is no "welcome, what can we do for you" or a "we got busy but look around and we will be with you in a moment." One comment on my first visit was "the serious bikers use (this product)." The tone was very condescending and arrogant. I am not someone that races professionally and I do not wear spandex. The inventory is good and I like the location, right in town, but their high pressure "up selling" is obnoxious and there must be a more friendly place. read more

We brought two bikes into Alan's for routine maintenance, and new seats. Our bikes are nothing fancy so no need for specialty work. We were told given the time of year it would take up to 2 1/2 weeks but maybe sooner. We waited until one day after 2 1/2 weeks Which was Feb 14th to check on them in case they forgot to call; nope, not done. We were instead given all the reasons why they weren't done. They said they would be done in a couple of days. We called a few days later. Still not done, still many excuses. We went through this again until Feb. 20 at which point we told them to forget it, we'll pick them up; at this point we wouldn't trust them anyway. We were called on the way over that the bikes would be pushed ahead for end of that day but we now had dinner plans plus question their business practices. We picked them up and took elsewhere. The owner called in the evening and asked if there was anything they could do to rectify the situation but we were not interested. They are now telling people they are a month out with a sign in front of the service area. Our bikes were fixed at his competitor within 24 hrs. Even though they had a 48 hr window. Based on our personal experience we won't be going back to Alan's bike shop. read more

We were a little hesitant about bringing our bikes in for service after reading some of the Yelp reviews but figured they have been around a long time and seemed to be a pretty good sized shop so gave it a try. We were very happy that they were able to attend to both my wife's and my bike at once. Be aware their policy is you must physically be present in the store to get the "waiting" service. Alan told several customers while we waited how he had a 3 week backlog of repairs. While waiting I also saw a sign stating to get work done you must have brakes and a rear red reflector on the bike. Never heard that one before. Your first impression is not that Alan is warm and fuzzy but they did do a very good job of repairing both of our bikes for a reasonable price. I would go back if the need arises. read more

Perhaps my expectations are set too high, having our bicycles repaired/serviced in other shops, where the work was done the same day, next day or the day it was promised. Nothing like that here. I came back picked up my bicycle, 1 week after the due date, total 2 weeks from drop off date, untouched, still in need of work, brought it to a competitor and the work was done in 1 day. I am just beginning my biking journey here so I had a number of concerns but he responded with practical advice and no pressure to buy anything. How refreshing! TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE ! Alan's Bicycle Center CHEATED Me. July 8,2017, I rode my bike across the bridge, on my way to Alan's to repair 7 spokes. Obviously, I use the shifter in both the high and low gears when crossing over the incline of the bridge from the beach. I arrived at Alan's, went to the counter and was met by a short little man named John. He introduced himself as a "bike tech". I explained there were around 7 spokes broken on the rear wheel. I wanted to replace them. He convinced me to replace the rim instead of repairing it , due to the faulty Chinese metal used by the manufacturer. He wrote my ticket up listing the cost at $58.00. I agreed. He asked if I wanted him to go through everything for $50.00 (tune up). I said NO, the bike only cost $125.00, and everything was fine on it. The promised completion date of July 12, came and went. After numerous calls asking what was taking so long to get a rim, once again on July 28, I gave my last call. I spoke to tech named Travis, he explained they were short-handed. August 1, I went pick up the bike, ready or not. The bike had just been completed with the new rim on it, but the bill was $107.00....$49.00 HIGHER than the $58.00 written on my ticket! I asked John the LITTLE TECH why was the price $ 49.00 HIGHER. John looked at the Ticket, turned it over and , and read on the back "Broken Shifter" , ON THE SHOP TICKET, NOT ON MY TICKET. He said Alan wouldn't let the bike go out with a broken shifter" . How did it get broken? It's IMPOSSIBLE, that the bike came in with a broken shifter because I rode the bike in, and never had any issue with the shifter. Furthermore, why even look at the shifter , if the only repair for was the rim? I asked John why I wasn't called to authorize this, he said he had no idea as to why I was not notified and went on to blame the owner. John then asked the other tech, Travis, if he wrote on the back of the ticket, or knew who authorized the Broken Shifter repair. Travis looked at the back of the ticket, and said the writing on the back repair ticket is Your handwriting, John, YOU wrote to change shifter, NOT the owner ". JOHN WAS CAUGHT IN HIS LIE! I was given NO evidence that a shifter was replaced, he said didn't have the old one, and the shifter on the bike looked identical to the one I came in with!!! All they did was jack up the price under false pretense, OR , it was broken by whoever did the repair ! I later found out, that JOHN, the lying tech, was beat up by 2 guys ,behind the bike shop... no wonder! A little man with a big attitude and full of lies. I should have gone to Orchid Island Bikes on Commerce. I advise anyone with ANY type of bicycle needs ... DO NOT GO TO ALAN'S, unless you want to be ripped off ! read more

I have a 29er Giant XTC. Took it to the shop to have some new tires put on it. The rims are not cheap (tubeless Stan's). They didn't bother telling me before the took the job that they really don't have much (if any) experience dealing with tubeless tires. They took at least a week to put tires on, and then didn't even do it correctly. I had to bring the bike back several times, and in the end they still weren't taped correctly inside and I ended up driving to Stuart to have a shop remove all their patchwork and start from scratch. I will never set foot in this joke of a shop again. If you don't know how to do a service, don't agree to do it. I would give it zero stars if that were an option. read more

I had a great experience. My salesman Johnny was very helpful and knowledgeable. He didn't pressure me to buy a bike but provided me with all the information to make a decision. I walked out with a high end road bike at a great price. I even compared the price online and saw that I got a great deal. They took the time to make sure I bought the right equipment to suit my riding style. Paying over $2000 for a bike you want to feel confident in the people you purchase from. The one star is only for Tyler and Johnny, who were extremely helpful. I would give it zero stars for Alan. I bought an $800 bike that fell over and was scratched before I took possession of it. Alan tried to tell me they would "fix it", but I refuse to pay $800 for a bike not in perfect condition. He refused to lower the price, and even tried to tell me he would not return it at all. He also told me it would take 2-3 months to get a replacement. Since I am only in Vero for 1 month, that was not acceptable. Fortunately, I was there with my daughter who is an attorney. We made the greedy old miser refund everything - the bike and all of the accessories. Now he is stuck with a scratched up bicycle and all the accessories just for being a dick. I would NOT at all be surprised if he tries to fix it up and sell to someone else as "brand new". Also, he refused to refund the $10 shipping fee for the fenders we ordered, even though the fenders had not yet arrived at the store. So he will get to sell those fenders, and I paid the shipping fee. I don't normally write bad reviews, but this guy is a snake, and I feel obligated to deter anyone from going to his shop. read more

I was looking to get a bicycle for myself so I stopped in Alan's Bicycle Center, just to look! There it was, a beautiful, all black Ladies Cruiser! It's exactly what I was looking for! Eddie came over and introduced himself to me and asked if I wanted to take it for a ride?! Sure, I said, not thinking it had been over 5o plus years since I had ridden a bike! It was like learning to ride a bike for the first time, with Eddie holding on and running along side of me. Before I knew it Eddie let go and I was on my own! What fun I had!!! Needles to say I purchased the bike and added a Nantucket Basket to the front so my little Yorkie can ride with me! It was a great experience, Eddie was great, we compared that bike to others, he had me test ride a similar bike to make sure I was getting the right bike for me and he made the entire experience Fun! I am enjoying my bike very much and so is my Yorkie, Lucy. Thank you Eddie for all your help, I really love my bike:)! read more
