Match Day is when the fourth year medical students learn where that have matched for residency including those who matched via the SOAP (Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program). It occurs on a Friday at the end of Match Week. At 11 AM CT/Noon ET, all students nationally receive an envelope and a text/email that lets them know what residency they have been offered and where. Is it dermatology? Orthopedics? Pediatrics? Psychiatry? Family med? Lots of tears of joy for the student that we went to support who matched at a top tier program after a lot of hard work. Congratulations!!! As far as the venue, we walked here from our hotel on Canal. The space was very organized with plenty of tables, cold drinks and trays filled with appetizers and desserts. Convenient bathrooms. Loved the celebratory Second Line which are a fixture at Tulane milestone events. Oh and the name? Club XLIV pays tribute to when the Saints won Super Bowl XLIV. Who dat? We booked R&R for the three night package, not just for the day of our wedding, and if I were to do it over, I would do it differently. The things they don't tell you: 1. It's VERY loud. The back house (where we stayed), shook when trucks drove past, particularly late at night, and they're driving past ALL THE TIME. So, on the 2 nights I wasn't completely exhausted, I slept VERY POORLY. 2. If you book for more than just your wedding day, and are having people stay there with you, you won't be able to utilize all the gorgeous spaces for your pictures, as people will be in the rooms, getting ready and having their stuff all over... So, our pictures weren't quite as widespread over the venue as I would have liked. Bummer. 3. The window coverings aren't for blackout, so it can be very light in the rooms as you are trying to sleep. For the $500/night per room we paid, one of our guests who had a child, between the light in the room and the noise, had to move out after the first night and get a hotel. BUMMER. So, if I were doing it all over again, I would have the party there, but would retreat back to a different Airbnb, or house, to live the rest of the trip.

The venue attendees quickly accommodated for the weather, by way of outdoor heating and covered tents. The cobblestone/brick flooring outside is divine and adds to the over all mystique of the venue. The pond sets the place off to a greater degree. Inside, the upstairs and downstairs decor is astounding. The other areas on the grounds are just as phenomenal. While the food was provided by an outside caterer, it added to the sheer elegance of the event. Great place for a grandiose party, as it'll fit the bill.

Wooo! Love getting an FtR for an historical site. If you've been to sea lighthouses along the…read moreAtlantic coast....this is nothing like that. It's short and squat and built in 1838. It guided ships along the lake to the canal that accessed downtown NOLA. For most of my life, it was just kind of there. According to the historical timeline on their website, the lighthouse was owned and in use by the Coast Guard until 1999....I'm not sure about that in use part. But it was one of the many structures damaged in the aftermath of Katrina. It was actually knocked off it's base and landed at an angle. There was a huge fund raising effort to rebuild the lighthouse and the create the education center. When I passed by today, the lighthouse was gated off and closed but it's still pretty to look at from the road...or from the Point. Now I'll just have to make it back to see the inside exhibit.

The food and drinks were placed on tables on the concrete Lighthouse Breezeway (under the raised lighthouse which is raised about one story above the ground). The guests mingled in the Fountain Plaza where the tables and chairs were set up and could stroll along the Lakefront Lawn to look over at the Point and the boats sailing by. The weather held and people had a good time. Restroom facilities are in the Education Center/Gift Shop. The event ground is wheelchair friendly with ramps to get to the different levels.

There's several food courts. PJ's coffee, which was very good. All the staff assisting with our convention was fantastic. The place was clean, all the conference rooms were expertly set up. This is my second convention at this location and I really like it. It's close to a lot of hotels, shopping at the outlet mall, and tons of restaurants right out the door.

Built in 1926, This architectural treasure is an outstanding example of a raised center hall villa and includes both Creole and American features in an elaborately detailed residence. BK House's diverse history includes the stories of those who both lived and labored here for nearly 200 years. Originally owned by Ursuline nuns and subsequently occupied by PT Beauregard and Francis- Parkinson Keyes. FPK also wrote a novel called The Chess Players, based on chess champion Paul Morphy, who was also the grandson of the original owner of the house, LeCarpentier.(A great book). Our first tour a few years ago was just us and the docent. There was an ermine cape as worn by FPK and I tried it on. It fit perfectly. Another Urban gem in New Orleans.

It is an example of a raised Creole cottage and is lovingly cared for by the Keyes Foundation. Reasonable admission price, the tours start every hour on the hour. You are not allowed inside to wait more than 10-15 minutes before the tour begins, so be aware of that during the hot summer months. This is well worth the stop if you are in the area. It is located in the French Quarter, but off the beaten path.
