Out of 5 fisherman, we landed three halibut over 38" and some small ones. Not as big as I had hoped, but a good experience nevertheless. ------------ Everything went smoothly over the past month as I booked/planned my travel to Alaska from California- a trip of a lifetime of sorts for me, such that I ended spending/investing 6K+ total for the opportunity to fulfill my dream of landing a giant (4ft+) halibut. They told me if that was my sole focus, then I should definitely head out of the Homer, AK port. it was a major commitment, not only for me- but for my wife who was willing to accompany me, since she knew how much it meant to me... after enduring ~6hrs of flights (+3hr layover) and driving 6hr (one way) from anchorage to homer, I received a call from them-- just as I was pulling into "lands end hotel", which i booked soley for this. ---- Unfortunately, they decided to cancel my original booking out of homer (larger boat w/capacity 16+) and sent me to a smaller boat (full capacity) from ninilchik instead (40-60m) drive. Prior to booking, weeks ago, I was ensured by Dustin that my boat out of Homer would head out no matter what (ie: even if the resulting ticket/sales came too low and only my wife and i were on it). But they (corporate?) decided not to honor our original terms, i assume to save on costs. note: i do not blame Dustin for this. it is out of his control. I write this only to hopefully illuminatue how poorly it seems to be run and focused over money-first I understand things can change, ie: massive storm can cancel a trip, but this instance, at least to me, was just out of corporate greed and i ultimately have to pay the consequences. The excuse given to me was that they needed to perform maintenance on the boat, but i hope its obvious to folks reading this that it is not -- with several contradictions. note: Dustin himself was decent enough, so I have no ill will there. it is Ninilchik Charters itself that needs to be held accontable

Our trip was planned last-minute while my brother was home on a short military leave before he had to return to Guam. We wanted to go fishing and sprinkle our dad's ashes to mark the end of probate, and this crew turned what could've been a heavy, emotional trip into something profoundly meaningful and beautiful. Despite being closed for renovations, Captain Steve and his wife, LeAnn, reopened just for us because our dad had fished with them many times over the years. They even rearranged their own holiday plans to make sure we could come. That alone speaks volumes about the kind of people they are. From start to finish, they handled everything. They helped us secure a last-minute car rental, cleaned and processed all our fish for shipping home, and woke up early--on what should've been their day off--to make sure we were fed, warm, and taken care of. Leann cooked five-star meals for us every day--breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She truly is the "hostess with the mostest!" And the highlight we'll be talking about forever? They cooked fresh crab for us right on the boat. Pulled from the ocean and cooked and eaten by hand on the spot--it doesn't get any better than that. We were also incredibly blessed with wildlife sightings. Over the course of our trip, we saw two pods of orcas, playful sea otters, several seals, and even a bald eagle--which meant more to us than words can say. The eagle is a special spirit animal for my brother and I, a symbol we deeply associate with our dad, and seeing one felt like a sign that he was with us. Captain Steve chose the perfect place for us to spread our dad's ashes--one of the spots he used to take him fishing. Evan, the sweetest and most attentive deckhand, helped us every step of the way and even brushed the snow off our car before we left. Every detail was handled with genuine care and kindness. This wasn't just a fishing trip. It was a healing experience, a family moment, and a memory we'll carry for the rest of our lives. We felt cared for, supported, and welcomed like family. We can't wait to come back in the summer for halibut, but for now, the salmon--and the memories--are perfect. He got us on the fish right away and filled us in with local knowledge, stories, etc. the guy busted is ass for us all day including cleaning and packing up or fish. Top notch. The place is close to the launch, which is an experience in itself. It's the only place I've seen boats get launched via tractors on the beach. He Cook Inlet has a million halibut charters and I'm sure most are fine. If you want to take away the guessing game, go with these guys.

Here's how the schedule of the day went. 430 am - met them at their house, about a five minute drive from the All Seasons Campground (RV, tent sites, and cabins). They took our bags and loaded them on the boat, which was smart so we didn't have to worry about that at the boat launch. 4:40-5:00 - drove to the boat launch. The boat launch had a lady with free coffee and breakfast burritos. There was one port-o-potty at the boat launch. 5:15ish - launch. This is a cool process. Have fun! We took about a 40 minute ride out. 6ish - lines dropped. Took a while for the fish to start biting, but once they did, we all got our over 28 inches. The captain and deck hand stood by to bait hooks, grab fish, and handle tangled lines. Story time: The current was about 2.5 knots and our lines got tangled bringing the big one (82 pounds) up. Ernie grabbed a harpoon like contraption and stick it through the fish in between untangling things to make sure we didn't lose the fish. By 9 am we had our big fish so we headed to a chicken hole and got four more fish. Currents were pretty crazy so we called it after about 90 minutes. We were back to Bottom Line Charters by 12:15. They filleted and vacuum sealed all our fish (for a very reasonable cost AND of you check in on here, there's 10% of this service). All said and done by 2 pm. Would 100% use again.
