Let me start with a huge thank you to Kaylee for getting me scheduled and keeping me scheduled in spite of the weather and for your happy attitude throughout the process. This was my first day going after King Salmon and I was extremely excited. They took me out all by myself just to help my get my first King which is truly going above and beyond for a client. Next let's focus on Captain Steve and his son Captain Hunter. They met me at the dock a few minutes early and invited me onto the Banshee which is very well equipped and comfortable. We then proceeded out to the Kachemak Bay and dropped the crab pot....anticipating some amazing Tanner Crab on our return from trolling for Kings. After motoring across the bay we started fishing for King Salmon with rigs that Capt Steve had tied the night before and soon we had our first hook-up and I landed my first King Salmon. Less than an hour later we hooked up again and my King Salmon daily limit had been reached. We then motored back across the bay to the crab pot which was filled with huge Tanner Crab.....very clean and bright!!! To say that I enjoyed my day with this outfit would be a huge understatement..... I loved fishing with Capt. Steve and Capt. Hunter and will return to fish with them again!!!!

Having a great time catching halibut!

Another awesome day fishing with Captain Steve!! We try and go every year with Captain Steve's as we consistently get the best fish! This year was no exception, we lucked out and got both Steve and Hunter as our guides and had an incredible day on the water. The attention to detail and focusing on not only having a good time but also trying to get us the biggest fish did not go unnoticed. Thanks for the great time and helping us fill our freezers!!

    Just 1 day of fishing

Amazing fishing lodge with a staff making you feel at home with great customer service , bar & food!!! If you want big game fish and not the little fish the other charters provide then call captain Steve's fishing lodge now, hands down the best!!!

Our group had an awesome 5-day stay and fishing expedition with Captain Steve's. Their whole entire team are awesome, they work hard to make you feel welcome and ensure you have the best experience possible. Each day we caught our limit for multiple species of fish, and came home with over 120 pounds of the best quality fish on planet earth. If you are considering an Alaskan fishing trip, go with Captain Steve's if you want to ensure you have a great time and bring home as much fish as possible!

Phenonomal experience here. I've been to lodges all over the world and Captain Steve's was by far my favorite. Why? Well the big thing for me is the owners, crew and staff. Yes, the food was great and plentiful, the fishing was beyond expectations (ow im sore) but the people there are what made the trip really special. They really went above and beyond to make the trip happen for us despite all the covid restrictions and flight challenges to this beautiful part of the Kenai Peninsula. Over 4 days, we caught thousands of pounds of fish, which equated to 372 lbs of filets. I can't even imagine how much that would go for on the commercial seafood market. 3 species of rockfish, 3 species of salmon, Pacific Halibut and lingcod were what we kept and brought back with us. 12 boxes!!! We saw Humpback whales, Minke Whales, Stellar sea lions, Otters, black bears, moose and bald eagles during our trip. Thank you so much for the awesome experience Captain Steve, LeAnne, Captain Chuck and Ryan. You guys rock! P.S. If you fly fish, go swing some dry flies in Happy Valley Creek behind the lodge and you'll find some hungry dolly vardens in there!

I just spent a full week at Captain Steve's Fishing Lodge with a big group of friends and had one of the greatest times of my life. I hadn't been to Alaska in a long time and had only been deep sea fishing once before, so I didn't fully know what to expect. But I can say that the entire experience was a incredible from start to finish. Steve, LeAnne, Kaylee and Hunter Smith all made me feel like I was a part of their family and I felt like I was at home. The hospitality was top notch and they take care of you the entire trip while you are there and really want to ensure that you have the best fishing trip and experience possible. The stay at the lodge was also amazing - they take care of all of your meals which were made from scratch by Chef Pat and incredible. They even have a bartender that takes care of you, if you want to have craft cocktails, beer or wine after you finish fishing. And then the fishing itself, OMG! We caught so many huge fish every day (Halibut, Lingcod, Rock Fish, Yellow Eye, Salmon) and every day was a new adventure that yielded the same great results. The crew at Captain Steve's Fishing Lodge also make sure that you feel safe each day when you go out fishing and we hit our limit on each type of fish species every day. I had the fortunate opportunity to go fishing with Captain Steve and his awesome Deckhand Brendon a majority of the days we went out and was extremity impressed with his expertness in captaining and fishing, his professionalism and passion. Captain Steve really cares about everyone, everyone's safety and tries to spend 1 on 1 time with everyone to help you learn technique to ensure that you have the best chances possible at catching a lot of fish. I also was able to go out with Captain Chuck one day and I had just as much fun with him. Chuck is literally one of the funniest guys I've ever met in my life. Both Captains provide a different vibe and experience, but I love how it didn't matter which boat you were on, you were guaranteed to equally have just as a great of a time. The deckhands and rest of the staff were all also awesome and consistently worked their asses off every day and made sure that the experience was as enjoyable as possible. I really do not have enough great things to say about Captain Steve's and I don't think I want to stay anywhere else when I visit Alaska. You will have an incredible time and create so many amazing memories. I highly recommend going and I look forward to booking my next trip - I want to try and go back every year!

65lb ling cods are tough on those biceps!

I don't want to write a whole essay about my experience at Capt Steve's. Don't dare me because I can. Capt Steve and his crew takes fishing seriously and personally. They LOVE catching fish! And who can blame them. These guys know where the fish are! And they know how to catch them. Fishing with them...well, let me just say..you will get lots of action and you will be tired! I told my just-retired dad there with a group of my friends, to get an experience of a lifetime. There were 8 total in our group. And a memorable experience it was. I was worn out by the end of the 5 day trip. Each of us carried home 150lb of fillets!! All packed and sealed properly to last a year or 2. Some kind of nitrogen injection packing. We caught ling cods, halibuts, black rock, yellow eye, and salmon. Freezer is jammed with the fish. But it made for some great dinner parties. I don't think Capt Steve markets to the casual fisherman. He should! They take care of everything. You just bring yourself and your personal belongings. They lodge you, they gear you up, they feed you, they get you to the fish, they teach you to fish, they clean, bag, and pack your fish ready for the plane, and they make sure you have a good time. What more can you ask right? We had a great time. Our group's records for this trip: 165lb halibut, 65lb ling cod. Smallest halibut was probably 30lbs (we caught too many and the small ones wasn't worth weighing). Don't waste your time with the other charters out there. They were pathetic! These "tourist" charters don't catch big fish or that many of them from what I can tell when we come back. And their customer drool over our big halibuts. Even if you are just in Alaska for a day or 2, go with Steve. You will be impressed! (This was my first trip with Steve)

Update: despite the last minute setback mentioned below, I had a good experience today on the…read moresmaller boat out of Ninilchik with Cpt. Thomas. Everyone landed a halibut or two. Out of 5 fisherman, we landed three halibut over 38" and some small ones. Not as big as I had hoped, but a good experience nevertheless. ------------ Everything went smoothly over the past month as I booked/planned my travel to Alaska from California- a trip of a lifetime of sorts for me, such that I ended spending/investing 6K+ total for the opportunity to fulfill my dream of landing a giant (4ft+) halibut. They told me if that was my sole focus, then I should definitely head out of the Homer, AK port. it was a major commitment, not only for me- but for my wife who was willing to accompany me, since she knew how much it meant to me... after enduring ~6hrs of flights (+3hr layover) and driving 6hr (one way) from anchorage to homer, I received a call from them-- just as I was pulling into "lands end hotel", which i booked soley for this. ---- Unfortunately, they decided to cancel my original booking out of homer (larger boat w/capacity 16+) and sent me to a smaller boat (full capacity) from ninilchik instead (40-60m) drive. Prior to booking, weeks ago, I was ensured by Dustin that my boat out of Homer would head out no matter what (ie: even if the resulting ticket/sales came too low and only my wife and i were on it). But they (corporate?) decided not to honor our original terms, i assume to save on costs. note: i do not blame Dustin for this. it is out of his control. I write this only to hopefully illuminatue how poorly it seems to be run and focused over money-first I understand things can change, ie: massive storm can cancel a trip, but this instance, at least to me, was just out of corporate greed and i ultimately have to pay the consequences. The excuse given to me was that they needed to perform maintenance on the boat, but i hope its obvious to folks reading this that it is not -- with several contradictions. note: Dustin himself was decent enough, so I have no ill will there. it is Ninilchik Charters itself that needs to be held accontable

I understand your 60-90 day cancellation policy, but did you know that my wife fell a few days ago, broke her knee, and is now unable to travel or even put weight on it? We had to cancel our entire Alaska trip! We have a Dr's statement stating she is unable to travel at all. So, we have had a medical emergency. So I guess we are just out the $3200, and now you are not returning my calls or emails? Shame on you! If or when we travel to Alaska, we will definitely not book with you all.
