Ignore your first impression as you drive into the stables. Once you see the horses and staff you can see how much these animals are loved and cared for. And watch out for the cats, there are a lot of them and they are all over wanting your attention. We did the 90 minute ride and it was absolutely breathtaking. The forest was beautiful, the dunes of glacial till were beautiful, the river was beautiful, the mountains around us were beautiful, I think you get the picture. You will not regret going on a ride here, and you will remember it for a very long time. read more

I happened upon this breathtaking experience. I stopped by to see if they had any openings for later that afternoon. The gentleman I spoke with, Joshua, whom I later discovered was the owner was so great! We initially came for skiing but didn't realize there wasn't enough snow yet. They actually were not taking any rides today, but made an exception and my friend and I had a very intimate experience with awesome conversation with our trail guide Esther. I cannot recommend this enough regardless if you are an experienced rider or not, the views are gorgeous and the whole experience is just something you won't wanna miss. read more

Great horse ride!!! My dad and I did a 3hr private ride and had a BLAST. Our guide Rebecca was great she took us through different terrain and up and down hills and out on a out on a river side through water that reached belly deep on the horses in spots. Our guide was attentive and kept us safe. We were on Sheba ( a black/white TN walking horse) and Nikita ( a Belgian/hiflinger cross) both were great horses. Is not a nose to tail ride can space out if needed and do move at a decent clip in trail despite the mud but do slow down if needed. ( we are experienced riders) If tell them that you are experienced riders they will take you on a little rougher trail. Our guide rode bearback the whole ride and was calm and collected the entire ride even when her horse was showing her some energy/spunk. They even let you bring treats for the horses for after the ride ( our 2 horses gobbled up the apples that we brought and was looking for more). The horses are well taken care off and are nice and healthy looking. Was our first time riding in Alaska and out on a glacier river. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Alaska. read more

My group of four adults went on a very cold morning November ride together. Our guide Megan was a treat. She rode the horse she's been training bare back while the rest of us rode fully tacked mares. Two of us are former guides and we all thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed pace and easy conversation. The owner of the business had gone out earlier and set up kindling for a beach fire along the Knik River to warm us up. Megan was kind enough to take some photos for us as well. The horses were very well behaved, even under one particularly eager new rider. At one point we came across a group of hunters with two moose down. While the horses were on alert at the smell of the blood, they were all steady. This is a good outfit run by nice people. I highly recommend it. read more

This is a mixed review. Our lead guide Shana was great. Had a skill to remember folks names with their associated horses and asked how we were doing throughout. The tail end guide was another story. She did ask if we (wife and I)wanted her to take a few pictures which was great however when asked to take a few more with our horses(or should I say mules) in a different position. She said "that will be a $50 tip. Just kidding" Then a few moments later it was "how about I leave you out here". That would have been fine of course as the mules know where home is but it is not something you should say to well paying clients. One more additional incident back at the stable and I was done. She was fortunate to get a tip at all. read more

This was such a fun and worthwhile experience!! Megan was our trail guide and she made lots of efforts to interact with each guest and make each person feel included! She was great at keeping track of everyone and would stop if anyone started to fall behind. In our group, there was someone who was on a horse for the first time, those like my husband who've ridden a few times, and a few like me, who've ridden horses all their life, and Megan treated each person the same which I very much admired about her! The horses are all very well taken care of and you can tell they're all very happy to do what they do :) We're already planning our trip back next year and will definitely bring my mom with us to go on a trail ride again! read more

We spent the afternoon of the 4th of July on a beautiful trail ride. It was busy on the trail because of he holiday and we encountered several ATV's along the way. Our guide, Shayna was friendly, safe and knowledgeable. She was aware of the surroundings and guided us off of the trail so ATV's could pass. Shayna engaged us in friendly conversation and answered all of our questions about the area and the horses. The scenery was breathtaking and Shayna stopped to snap photos of us on a couple of different occasions. We highly recommend this adventure and our guide! read more

My 3-hour trail ride with Josh of Alaska Horse Adventures was such an amazing experience. The scenery was incredible. As we were going along I was thinking there is nothing that could make this better and then my guide suggested we stop and build a fire to warm up for a bit (there is something special about building and watching a fire in the outdoors). I also really enjoyed our wide-ranging conversation. AND I've also got a lot of great photos to look back on. My next trip to Alaska will definitely include a trail ride with Alaska Horse Adventures. I've got to say I'm not a huge horse lover but my wife is so I figured we'd try this place out and couldn't be happier with the service. Joshua was our guide and not only did he do a great job with us but he was always aware of everybody and everything going on around us. He may very well have convinced this guy to have another outlook on horseback riding. You go through most terrains instead of a trail along side some road or path. It's a very quaint operation so you get the full attention of your guide. They don't treat you like your dumb for not knowing anything about horses. They give you a complete run down on your horse and what to expect. Very professional and attentive. Give this company your money and you won't be disappointed. read more

What a great way to see the Alaskan landscape! I was thrilled to find this place existed and even more thrilled to show up to find that my boyfriend and I were the only two who had booked a tour for the day. Private horse tour anyone? Yes, please. Dan was our tour guide and greeted us warmly. We were a bit early, so he even gifted us with a few minutes head start. My guy had never been on a horse, and so when Dan informed me that the horse he was giving him was older and a bit temperamental, I was a bit hesitant for him to get on. But, he seemed more than ok with the horse at the time, and we went with it. Looking back, I wish - just for the sake of the matter, that Dan had ensured that the straps on the horse were the right length because as the tour continued, my bf's knees started to ache very uncomfortably. But, as far as a tour guide goes, he was thorough with his explanations of the landscape and very knowledgeable about the area. He seemed quiet for most of the tour but was happy to answer any questions that we asked. The one thing that really drove these stars from a 5 to a 3 however, was the fact that Dan brought his dogs. They're adorable, don't get me wrong and i LOVE dogs, but even before the horse bucked my bf off (because the dogs scared him), I was already feeling uncomfortable with them there because with every other trot the horse took to catch up to Dan, we'd get dangerously close to the dogs and I could never truly REST into the ride for fear that one of the horses would step on one of the dogs. And then, that's when the fall happened. The dogs had taken off away from our entourage, mindlessly getting lost in the trees. Dan called after them and when they wouldn't listen, he jarringly raised his voice (as one would do) scolding the dogs to return. This caused a trickling effect of them running behind my bf's horse, scaring it shitless causing it to whinny up as it came down on the butt of my horse, then flinging my boyfriend to the ground. I turned in horror to see him faceplanted on the ground. It shook us both up for sure and we took some time making sure nothing was broken or torn. He eventually got back on the saddle and we made it back to the ranch within 45 minutes, but the joy and the thrill had been replaced with a quiet longing for the tour to be over. which, was incredibly unfortunate. Josh was there when we returned, and took the situation in with such kindness and concern that it redeemed everything that happened, bringing my would be 3 stars back up to a 4. He refunded us our money, gave us his email and has been diligent with checking in and making sure all is well. He runs a good ship and it's an excellent tour - I'm just not a fan of the dogs. (Sorry Dan!) But, we thank you for both for a very unique, memorable experience. read more

We went for a 2 hour horseback ride with Alaska Horse Adventures yesterday. What a wonderful experience! By we, I mean 3 adults (all mid-40's) and 3 children (ages 11, 13, and 15). Our guide, Josua,was very patient with us as only 1 of us had significant horseback riding experience. The horses were spirited, but well behaved. This was no plodding, one-horse-after-the-other-stay-in-line-don't-go-too-fast experience. We moved along at a good pace and were free to change up the order or walk abreast in the places where the trail was wide enough. We covered a fair bit of ground alongside the Knik river, but the highlight was at the end, when Josua brought us up to a view spot on the top of a small rise. WOW! What a view! Josua made sure we got enough pictures with everyone in them and really made the trip enjoyable for everyone. We talked about all things Alaska as we walked, but it was clear he always had an eye on everyone to make sure everyone was comfortable and in control. At one point my daughter (the 11 year old) started to get tired, so he tied up her horse to his to ensure her safety and continued enjoyment for the rest of the trip. The horses were fantastic and everyone bonded with his or her own horse by the end of the trip. Most of the horses were Tennessee Walkers, which evidently have a smoother gate, even when moving more quickly. All I can say is that I never had any problems with the trip being too jarring or in any way unpleasant. My horse, Lasso, was spirited and always seemed to want to pick up the pace (which I let him do to a small degree in some open areas) but he remained responsive and immediately slowed down to whatever pace I desired with the smallest tug on his reins. The person in our party who owns her own horse and rides weekly, if not daily, in the spring and summer where she lives, couldn't say enough nice things about how well behaved and solid the horses were. At one point an ATV came pretty close by, which she assures me would unsettled her own somewhat skittish horse. Our horses took the intrusion in stride, with no apparent alarm. Overall, I can't say enough good things about Alaska Horse Adventures. If you'd like to get out into the woods and see Alaska from a unique perspective, I highly recommend a horseback ride with Alaska Horse Adventures. read more

My husband, Jon, and I wanted to surprise my sister the day before she was returning back home after visiting us for two weeks. We decided to book tickets for horseback riding with Alaska Horse Adventures and ended up having a captivating experience! At first glance, you can tell that the horses are taken well care of by the family who owns the property. We strolled through the woods, the valleys, steep hills, the Knick River, and Jim Creek. The different sceneries we went through are beautifully breath-taking. My favorite part of the tour was swimming through the actual river with the horses! Our awesome guide, Suzanne, warned our group about getting our feet wet- she was responded with joyful battle cries and laughter. Suzanne is incredible, at one point, she allowed us to wander around with our horses, take plenty of pictures, and also made sure the horses were treated with a refreshing break in the river. At the end of our tour, after we dismounted our saddles, we got to know more about Suzanne and her family. I could tell my sister very much enjoyed herself. My husband really wanted to go horseback riding, so I did a little research and found Alaska Horse Adventures. My husband really wanted to go while it was snowing, so we went this weekend (3/3/18), and not to surprising, we were the only ones that ended up booking that day. That did not stop Joshua, our guide/the owner from showing us a good time. We got to meet the horses and help set up before heading out. It was really relaxing and the horses were really well behaved. The place is family owned, and their pride in what they do translates into your experience. They go out of their way to make it enjoyable for you AND the horses, which is awesome. It was a little pricey, but this cost takes care of the horses and the family, so it's totally worth it. We are already planning on using them again for when family visits for something fun/unique and we also plan to take the longer trip some other time (we did the 1.5 hour trip). Highly recommended to all and appreciate the good time! read more

While visiting my mom in Anchorage we did three all-day riding packages with Alaska Horse Adventures. Joshua, the owner, was our guide and he was absolutely amazing. I can't even describe how beautiful the scenery was and how skilled Joshua was in leading us through the woods and along the Knik River! The leaves were changing for fall and the mountains and river took my breath away. I have gone horseback riding across the country, and this was by far the most amazing ride I've experienced.
