Great horse ride!!! My dad and I did a 3hr private ride and had a BLAST. Our guide Rebecca was great she took us through different terrain and up and down hills and out on a out on a river side through water that reached belly deep on the horses in spots. Our guide was attentive and kept us safe. We were on Sheba ( a black/white TN walking horse) and Nikita ( a Belgian/hiflinger cross) both were great horses. Is not a nose to tail ride can space out if needed and do move at a decent clip in trail despite the mud but do slow down if needed. ( we are experienced riders) If tell them that you are experienced riders they will take you on a little rougher trail. Our guide rode bearback the whole ride and was calm and collected the entire ride even when her horse was showing her some energy/spunk. They even let you bring treats for the horses for after the ride ( our 2 horses gobbled up the apples that we brought and was looking for more). The horses are well taken care off and are nice and healthy looking. Was our first time riding in Alaska and out on a glacier river. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Alaska.

My wife Rebecca and I had a great private 3 hour ride on a beautiful sunny July day. Our guide Shana was very helpful and knowledgeable about the surrounding landscape and assisted with taking photos of us and the horses several times. Both my wife and I are inexperienced riders and Shana was helpful with instructions to give us a safe and comfortable experience. Overall we had a great time!

First time to Alaska We've had a ball Whale watching Reindeer farm Glacier Barbara Falls Hope, AK I'm an experienced rider, grew up showing horses Have had horses for more than 1/2 of my life Dream ride on the beach Dream to ride a draft horse I've never liked trail ride places, as they're quirky and boring Well... hello Josh and Alaska horse Adventures You ride out in the woods Up trails Down trails Through open meadows Up sand dunes Down sand downs On The beach Through the water In front of the mountains In view of a glacier And Thank you Trail hand Megan for letting me ride Fred, the Percheron! I absolutely loved this experience And even with all that we did, this was the best! Megan you did an incredible job! - to remember everyone's names, every single time To keep it fun for the many riders For many this is their first time riding All left with a smile! You did great! Thank you Alaska Horse Adventures! Ps. Give Fred a carrot for me daily

A cold and foggy November morning still made for a nice ride!

My group of four adults went on a very cold morning November ride together. Our guide Megan was a treat. She rode the horse she's been training bare back while the rest of us rode fully tacked mares. Two of us are former guides and we all thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed pace and easy conversation. The owner of the business had gone out earlier and set up kindling for a beach fire along the Knik River to warm us up. Megan was kind enough to take some photos for us as well. The horses were very well behaved, even under one particularly eager new rider. At one point we came across a group of hunters with two moose down. While the horses were on alert at the smell of the blood, they were all steady. This is a good outfit run by nice people. I highly recommend it.

Amazingly fun adventure. The staff is very nice and helpful. They make you feel comfortable and ready for fun. The horses are well trained and the path really feels like you are in ALASKA.

Josh was such a kind, hospitable host! We had so much fun! His snow covered trails were so beautiful and well maintained! He was so great about stopping to take beautiful photos of us with the mountains. The hot cocoa and fire at the end was a wonderful touch. He has thought of everything! We had Fred for our ride, who was a gorgeous horse. We loved when he picked up pace in the opening, and found it impressive when josh dropped the reins and Fred kept on his way. Thank you for a wonderful adventure!

This was such a lovely addition to our Alaska trip! Getting the opportunity to see all the beautiful views, as well as getting to ride through the peaceful trail in the woods was just lovely. Abraham really was very helpful and well versed in the Alaskan community, not to mention a great impromptu photographer! Definitely recommend this for your next Alaska adventure :)

My 3-hour trail ride with Josh of Alaska Horse Adventures was such an amazing experience. The scenery was incredible. As we were going along I was thinking there is nothing that could make this better and then my guide suggested we stop and build a fire to warm up for a bit (there is something special about building and watching a fire in the outdoors). I also really enjoyed our wide-ranging conversation. AND I've also got a lot of great photos to look back on. My next trip to Alaska will definitely include a trail ride with Alaska Horse Adventures. Definitely worth the trip from Anchorage

Probably one of the best things I did for myself on this trip. It was my first time riding a horse and they helped me every step of the way. The walk was absolutely gorgeous and would def do it again! Thanks guys!

If you are looking for a fun, casual trail ride near Anchorage, Painted Mustangs is just the thing…read more My husband (non-rider) and I (horse fanatic) took a lovely ride last week and we both really enjoyed the horses, the sightseeing, and the folks, and would love to come do it again in the high summer! The Horses The horses were all friendly with people and with each other - comically so in fact, for my husband the non-horser, who was impressed with his mount's ability to scratch his head on the rump of the horse ahead of him without tripping or retaliation from his 'scratching post.' Most of the horses go in hackamores (bitless bridles) and with natural bare feet (better for snow!) They were healthy, agile, and responsive (definitely not the resigned passenger vehicles one comes across in touristy areas.) The Sights Chugach State Park is gorgeous year-round! Amazing views to Anchorage and across the water. Megan is very familiar with the area and will tailor your ride to both the sights to see and the weather conditions. Additionally, the facility is located near the Alaska Zoo and the two activities will make a full day and build a serious appetite! The Folks Megan has lots of equine experience, is a bubbly fun tour guide, and will make you feel right at home in the saddle if you are a horse newbie (as my husband is.) If you are a more experienced rider, let Megan know, and she may have some extended or more advanced riding opportunities to offer. There are also English and Western lessons available if you want to brush up or live in the area. All in all I had a great experience and can't wait for my next visit to Alaska. Definitely will ride with Megan again.

It kind of fizzles out at the foot of the mountains, but doesn't really lead to the summits of them. You can keep going and climb the mountains, but you will be very much off trail. The first few miles are in the trees, eventually it opens up into an A-OK valley. I had no idea this trail was here, and I'm glad we tried it, just not sure I'll be back. It's very close to the the outstanding Chugiak cafe: https://www.yelp.com/biz/chugiak-cafe-chugiak So you could make a morning of it :)

First off, credit to John Tyson and his book, "Best Hikes Near Anchorage" for outlining this trail…read moreand giving all the pertinent details needed! If you're from out of town and looking for a good introduction to backcountry hiking, this is a trail for you. The first two miles are at a moderate uphill pace and then it levels out. If your from in town and looking for a versatile trail with backpacking options, also for you. Excited to hike beyond the four mile point next time. Start your GPS at the trail sign (where you'll find some general trail notes and any notices you need to know). and not at the parking lot. There are some really nice views of the inlet and Sleeping Lady. At about the 1.6-1.9 mile mark you'll come across a perfectly situated log on the right of the trail which provides for a nice seat and a beautiful view. Take this in as you'll be headed inland from this point. If you're a little tired at this point, the harder climbing is almost done. Make sure to follow the sign for "Summer Trail." It is the smaller of the two paths, but the correct one. Around mile 4, you'll cross a bridge with a decent stream. It's a great stopping point for pictures and maybe your turning around spot I'd recommend going on about another half mile. At that point the trail opens up into a flatter area with some nice peaks to your left. Throw out a blanket and make yourself a cup of coffee! The trip back is much quicker as it is all downhill. John Tyson says 4-6 hours. Pretty accurate I would say. My wife and I did it in just under 4 hours with a 30 minute break. Didn't see much wildlife. Saw some moose prints and moose droppings. Maybe one ptarmigan. The views are still worth it to me.
