My aunt was visiting from Maryland and we also had a few days left before leaving Alaska, so we decided to check out the Reindeer Farm in Palmer. If you have a kids or just a big animal lover, this is the place to go! They have all sorts of animals. They have different prices for visitors, AK residents, military, children as well as seniors. The admission ticket comes with a mini tractor ride (don't expect too much tho!). Right before you get to the tractor, there's a huge playground area for the kids to enjoy and mess around. My boyfriend and I had the BEST time here, and I wish I could've enjoyed this spot as a kid having grown up in Alaska. We decided to give this spot a try because there was alpacas (which I love). We planned on going to the Alaska Conservation Center (ACC) in Girdwood but arguably agreed that we got everything we wanted and more at the Reindeer Farm for only the price of admission! We would've been charged for feeding a moose on top of the admission ticket at the ACC, and were limited to the designated times of 10:30a on select days (hr drive from anchorage), at the Reindeer farm a staff member took pictures of us feeding the moose and gave us feed for us to interact with a lot of animals. I can see this as a great place for kids. Side notes: The fireweed lemonade is SO good. The nicest bunnies ever watch for poo in the petting zoo area lol :( read more

My favorite place in my trip to Alaska! Great place for both children and adults! It's a big place and they have so many different animals here. Tour guide was very informative and well done. Learned so much, it was interesting feeding reindeers. I loved touching the rabbits and baby reindeers. Live bee colony was unique. The Reindeer Farm is located in Palmer, Alaska. Our family got tickets to their annual "Fall Family Fun Event." Tickets were only $15/pp for a 2hr session and SO much was included. It was a cold but sunny day for a fall event. We were so grateful. We came late (of course), and ended up having a little over an hour to enjoy the fun. We had to be pretty swift and orderly to be able to make it to every section. My 3yr old did a pony ride, bouncy horses, go-cart/4wheeler ride. She fed reindeers and cows. We did a horse carriage ride as a fam, played games, walked thru a reptile enclosure, walked thru a haunted house, and lastly the pumpkin patch. I believe the only thing we didn't do was a tractor driven fam ride. Next time! There were several places to grab food and snacks. I could not believe the food truck I've been looking for all summer was there! Perfect, perfect, perfect! Plenty porta-potties and even bathrooms with plumbing. All staff and volunteers encountered were super welcoming and helpful. I loved that you had to exit thru their gift shop (reminded me of the lower 48). We didn't get anything but I loved that they took every opportunity to make that mula! I respect it! We would absolutely visit again. read more

So much more than just a "reindeer farm." Quite a number and variety of animals with lots of them being rescues. A live bee colony was interesting to see as well as a very well inhabited reptile house and a baby moose! Each animal species has their own "steward" who were pretty knowledgeable and able to answer all questions. To boot, it's in an awesome setting! This is a wonderful place for people of all ages to visit. We got to see baby reindeer, which are cuteness beyond belief, as well as feed treats to llamas and alpacas. They have rescue moose and bison you can see up close. You can have a tour from a young, friendly, knowledgeable guide and opt for a tractor ride. I do wish they had a few more as there are animals I was curious about that had no one. Perhaps is because it is an animal that are not pet. While you can let many of the animals and technically only two you cannot it looks like it is not recommended for many as well. It was a great experience all in all even though we didn't pet. The family who owns the farm is so nice. Make sure you do the guided tour for just $2 more. You will learn so much about the farm and reindeer themselves. They are the sweetst animals! Camden was a great guide. We started the tour in a barn, and were given some history about the farm and reindeer. Fascinating! Then we were taken to each area of the farm and given information about each animal, and the opportunity to feed and touch them. They were all so eager to be petted. Our tour lasted over an hour and was very informative. You can then hang out as long as you wanted. A lot of baby reindeer made the day so great. Went for the 2nd time ever. In 2019 you could be in the same space as reindeer and feed them. However that is no longer the case. Now you feed them through the fence. I think this is prob better as the reindeers could be quite aggressive for feeding and be scary for kids. I brought my nieces this time and they enjoyed feeding them through the fence. The playground area was also very nice for kids with hay and rollie polly. Overall it's a nice place for kids to meet the animals and spend the day. Recommend: Bring snacks! read more

Game Over! It sort of breaks my heart to be writing this because the first time I came here to this, the Reindeer Farm, it was pretty much exactly 1 year ago. Yep that's right. Back in 2021, during my 2-week voyage around Alaska...coming here for the 1-hour tour of this Reindeer Farm was the most memorable thing I experienced! I loved this place! I recommended it to everyone! Upon returning to Alaska this Summer of 2022...I knew the one place I had to visit again...was this Reindeer Farm. I stopped by here 2 days ago on Sunday, July 10th, 2022. Now...they no longer allow you to get time with the reindeer. What I mean is...you can't enter their area, or their playpen or home. You can only see them, pet them and feed them from behind the fence!!! Really??? That ruined everything for me!!! This totally took away from that human, intimate, and affectionate face-to face encounter. I was stunned by this. My expectations were so high for returning and for them to be dashed by having to stand behind a fence. This whole new experience was a massive disappointment. I know I'm repeating myself...but you can go to any zoo anywhere in the United States and view animals from behind a fence. But last year when I got to kiss and make nice with the reindeer without having any hindrances between us...it was one of the greatest interactions I've had with an animal. Ugh...it can't be this way. Honestly, for me, lol, it was like a bad nightmare. Basically, this Reindeer Farm...and it's just my opinion...has now been transformed into a walkalong farm or zoo. And for them to call it a "Reindeer Farm"? What? I spent more time this 2nd visit looking at the other animals from behind the fences than I did at the actual reindeer (from behind the fence) :( Oh well, how much more can I vent. It is what it is. Welp...I will no longer recommend this place. You can't not have the fence. You just can't. I guess, lol, I've always wanted to be a villain. And I guess I am being one with writing this review, lol. Anyhow...here were some other details and changes I noticed from 2021 to 2022... - In 2021, it was a 1-hour guided tour where the guide happily took photos for everyone. I generously tipped the guide $10 back in 2021. Now for 2022, it's go at your own pace. Do and see what you'd like. - In 2021 it was $13 entrance fee. Now it's $15...and I'm sure over time it will easily get to $20...especially when you think how expensive glacier tours are in this area in comparison to this little animal farm. Not even close. - New for 2022, they offer a Food Truck in the center of the farm with hamburgers and hotdogs for families to have lunch. Now they can overcharge and bring in more revenue. - They feature the same moose, elk, pig and horses/ponies. Some new animals on the farm they showcased were alpacas, Highland Cattle (or cows), Tibetan Yaks (whatever those are) and a couple of bunny rabbits. - Finally, at the end of the walking tour they feature the reindeer behind a fence. They give you a small cup to feed the reindeer, but how can you enjoy the moment from behind a fence? Especially myself with all the joy I felt last year? And pictures as well...who wants a fence in your pictures when last year there were no impediments. - Funny, I spoke with the owner and she never gave me a reason for why the reindeer were off limits in terms of the fence. I did speak with an employee inside the Gift Shop and she said children were tugging at the reindeer's antlers and that was stressing them out, according to the veterinarian. If so...then only allow responsible adults inside the reindeer's pen! Why punish us? - In the end...there were still plenty of visitors and families stopping by. What do they know? Kids could care less about a fence. Parents are there for their kids and kids just want to be themselves. Ultimately, this Reindeer Farm is still doing fine and still thriving, even without this...my negative blast on Yelp, lol. It's fine. I got my perfect photos from 2021. I have my mementoes. I won't be returning to this Reindeer Farm. What a clever concept to begin with. But now...with every animal on the farm being behind a fence (especially the main attraction being the reindeer) the human element interaction is forever lost...and that makes me sad. read more

What a fun day activity for children and adults! Our guide was super friendly and very informative on all of the animals residing at the farm. She even told us their cute and quirky personalities. We had the opportunity to feed most of the animals and that was my favorite part of the tour. At the end, we were in the barn warming up with the choice of either hot chocolate or apple cider. We decided to do this tour last minute and got a 2:30 tour time. Drove out from Anchorage, it was a beautiful drive. The scenery was amazing. We got there 15 minutes before our tour time and we got to wait in the gift shop. There are only portapotties so try to go before heading out. Our guide was Eric, the son in law. He's been there for over 10 years. He was awesome. He was full of information and so friendly and helpful. We got to see, feed and pet Reindeers, Highland cows, Alpacas, Bisons, Mooses. Half way thru the tour, you get to warm up in a barn and drink hot chocolate after that, there was only a few more animals to see. The male Alpaca was separated from the 4 females because all 4 are pregnant and will have their babies in March. There were 2 piggies, one could do tricks for his treats and 2 miniature donkeys. We got to take a pic with April, a rescued reindeer. I would really recommend visiting this place read more

We visited the farm in December and then again in July. It was amazing seeing the transformation, as they shed their antlers in the winter, so the antlers are broken and bloody looking but by July, the antlers were full and pretty. read more

Fantastic place to get up close with Reindeers and other Alaskan wildlife. Pretty inexpensive and lots of ability to feed the animals and get to know them and ask questions from the, what seemed like, family owned Reindeer farm. I got a good education, as well as pertinent questions answered. They have a gift shop, a coffee shop, and a stand for burgers, reindeer dogs and pulled pork sandwiches. There was also a playground for kids and a hay ride that ran on the hour. It was amazing getting up close and personal with the animals and being able to feed them and learn about them. I will say if there has been a lot of rain, and, well, it is Alaska, then be prepared for a lot of puddles and a lot of mud. I wasn't originally going to come here, but I heard about it while touring other areas of Alaska and since I was coming to visit a friend in Palmer, I knew it was close and I decided to go and I am surely glad that I did. I'm not sure why the Reindeer Farm is showing closed for the winter, they are not, the tours are merely by appointment during the winter. We drove out there, thinking we would just take a look at the Reindeer and managed to get in on the 12:30 tour. We met in the barn, which had benches and the nice young man brought me a bunny to hold when I asked where the bunnies were. We watched a video while we waited and then were given the lowdown on the farm and what to expect. Our tour started with feeding the Reindeer which was super fun and adorable! You can't help but smile and giggle while doing so. You then get to go see the Moose, pet him and even give him a kiss by putting a baby carrot in your teeth, which he takes from you. I'm not ashamed to say I jumped at the chance and was the first in our group to do so! OMG!!!!!! Sooooo sweet! We were also able to pet the bison and saw elk and a yak too!! There is a cute little gift shop, horses, a farm cat and dogs! It's a great place to visit. I recommend wearing rubber boots, although they have some for you if needed as well. read more

This is my second time visiting, and it was just as fun in the winter as it was in the summer. The animals are so fun to see, and the tour guides have a ton of fun knowledge about each of them. You can see the amount of love and care this facility puts into the animals. Aside from getting to feed these cuties, you also get to stare at a stunning Mountain View the entire time. This was such a great experience for my family. The staff was just outstanding in the orientation of the animals during the guided tour. You have ample opportunities to interact with each and every animal. The best one was feeding the moose and the reindeer. The staff took great photos too. Everything was organized really well. There is restrooms on-site and a washing area after petting all the animals. There is ample parking space. This is a must do activity when visiting Alaska if you're in Anchorage area or headed to and back from Denali. They also have bee hives on exhibit and also sell the honey when in season. This was one of the best things we did in Alaska. We did the VIP tour. Hearing the history of the farm was very interesting. It is still owned by the original family and you could tell this wasn't only a job or business. This was a love for them. Our tour guide, forgot his name but was a son-in-law, was enthusiastic and funny. The knowledge he had was amazing. Many of the animals started as rescues. Wish we could be there for their fall festival or Christmas programs. I would definitely go again if up in Alaska. It is an active animal farm but the animals seemed more like pets than livestock.
