I used the Yelp App to locate a place to recycle a 65" Flat Screen Samsung TV that had quit. I did…read morenot want to just throw it in the landfill. The App sent out two requests under the projects program for responses. Within 24 hours I received two excellent responses that fit my needs. The first was a local nonprofit recycling center with 6 miles. The other was Total Reclaim. Total Reclaim operates a recycling business that accepts on site delivery of recycling products including TV's and other electronics. I consulted their website for details and location and they were 50 miles away. They also have a pickup service in their local area but only rarely in my area. They do charge fees for their services. I choose the local facility because of closeness and smaller fees. It cost me just $7 to recycle the 100 pound TV. I encourage people to use the services of Total Recall when needed. The Anchorage Landfill operates a limited recycling program at the main landfill in Eagle River. It accepts glass which the MatSu Borough Landfill will not. They also accept hazardous materials but I am unsure about electronics. Check the websites for ALL locations to get details and costs concerning their individual operations. I encourage everyone to use the recycling programs to reduce waste, contamination and pollution.

Okay, this place is great!…read more There's a but ... that I will get to in a minute. So they take anything that's got electronics. All that gold, silver, tungsten and mercury boards, oh did I say all those non-recyclable Duracell and Energizer batteries. Yeah they take EVERYTHING... Lead, Dead Battery and Electronic-wise! So, there is a catch. You have to give them $15 bucks. Yeah they have to ship your electronics and batteries to the lower 48! They charge us. But before you say "Oh heck no" listen! Save up your electronics. Build it up. Collect it and store till you're ready. It's worth saving our precious landfills and water from deadly batteries and mercury metals. It's better to recycle and reuse! I'd pay $15 bucks to save the world ... would you?

They have a building that you drive into and several volunteers that help you unload and distribute the different classes of recycling materials in the correct drops downs. They have a printed data sheet with pictures that explain the different categories of recycling materials so that you can separate them prior to arrival and the volunteers are very helpful in helping you learn the many categories. They also accept things that many recycling centers don't. They accept the gardening pots that you have and make them available to others for free or a small donation. They accept books, wire, other metals, pallets, aluminum foil and cans. The pallets can be purchased for a $1 donation. They do not accept hazardous waste or oil but the Borough landfill next door does. The Borough landfill will accept TV's, electronics equipment and hazardous materials. The recycling center has a membership program that provides a sticker for unlimited recycling for a year or they suggest a small donation of $3.00 per trip. They are always looking for volunteers if you wish to help them. Every item recycled and not thrown away helps the environment. I highly encourage you to contact them and join them in improving the environment and eliminating as much disposed of waste in the landfill or thrown illegally in our beautiful lands.

I had to shut everything down at his…read moreplace as it will eventually be demolished as it wasn't fit to live in, we never could get my dad to move out of his beloved property. I brought in all the necessary paperwork. It took them well over a month to shut down because they had to "verify" that the property was vacant. Because it's in Mt View we had the neighbors park their vehicle there so that we wouldn't have squatters as I do not live in Anchorage. Even though the other utilities locked or pulled meters since there were vehicles in the driveway they still billed me. Every utility did as I asked immediately except SWS, they tried to make as much money from us as they could. Municipal entities should be held to a higher standard. This is nonsense. I had every utility email me confirmation of disconnection. The Muni needs to revamp and get rid of the current employees and replace with people who actually care like at the other utilities.

For years SWS has been taking my mother's recyclables and she puts them in Plastic bags(Because Of…read moreher inside trash can.) And Fills these bags With Recyclables like Soda cans, bottled water, Etc. and then Puts them in the Outside Recyclable bin(Which they only take every 2 weeks and is twice the size of the Trash container which doesn't make sense.) And SWS has always taken These Recyclables In the Plastic garbage bags. Plus isn't Plastic garbage bags also Recyclable? Yes, they are. So Because my mom is 70 years old, I Have to go help her take out her trash each week. I Go to retrieve her Trash and Recyclables Bin and Nothing has been taken, and it's got the Same Stuff in it it always does. I call SWS and they tell me they won't take the Recyclables if they're in Plastic Bags. So I guess they expect you to Dump Everything out of your Plastic sacks and into the bins,, which Is ridiculous and is going to get Soda, Beer, etc stains and be leaking all over inside the Recyclable bin. They've always taken these bags before and If there is a policy change Then tell the customer. Instead I will have to pay A truck to come take this Recyclables To the dump myself. I thought Recycling was a good thing. I'm now trying to figure out someplace else that can Take her Garbage instead, So she's not left with 2 weeks of Recyclables And nowhere to put her Recyclables now. Couldn't SWS have taken the Bin and made Us aware Of this policy? I guess not.
