This place is really cool to toss boxes and paper bags that have been wreaking havoc on my garage floor. It's free, and it's open air, open space, open access. Theres tons of space to drive up, park, unload your car. I even saw a moving truck dropping off cardboard boxes. How many teenagers recycle glass?! One has to be a teenager to do the 1.5 foot climb up onto a small square step while lifting heavy glass to place into their new receptacles. It is dangerous for anyone let alone a senior. While I didn't see boxes of glass sitting next to the receptacle, I certainly would understand if someone had no choice to leave it on the pavement. read more

We are here typically twice a month dropping big cardboard boxes and bottle glass. It has become routine and when we see Socially Responsible Companies doing their part, makes me feel really good. We usually see restaurants there and other businesses dropping off boxes and glass but this day, we saw an automotive company truck loadedwith boxes and boxes of tin oil cans recycling. Awesome guys! Now that I know where this is I'm using it more often! We have loads of empty boxes from moving. We pay for a recycling trash container at the new house, but it would have taken months to recycle all the cardboard that was piling up in the garage! We had 3 storage units and 2 Conex containers we have to unpack. Just broke the boxes down flat and folded down the rear seats and filled it to the max! Easy Peasy! I wanted to leave four stars but I can't bring myself to do so. It's a recycling center that lets you drop off recycling whenever you want. It's usually fairly clean. Everything is labeled well and organized. It doesn't cost anything to come bring your recycling. Just make sure to keep a good thing going by not placing things that don't belong on the containers you put it in! I wanted to take a star off because I wish they could recycle more than the clear plastics. Some guy told me that just recently lost that contract. I hope they can get it back some day. I'm leaving it five stars because how can I complain about something that's free. read more

A sign is posted saying that plastic bags will no longer be accepted after September 15th (2019). The solution is not to throw your plastic bags in the trash. Carr's and Fred's may still have the receptacles available at the store's entrances to recycle plastic bags. If not, you can use them for shopping and have them handy to reuse. If you've got a big stash of plastic bags, get them to this recycling center before the 15th of September. It is long overdue to do away with plastic bags actually. Especially with so much negligence among the millions who just throw them in the trash, thereby compromising the landfills, our soil and water. It's time to invest in some cloth bags for the grocery shopping! read more

Great place for dropping off cardboard boxes & glass & plastic. Easy access and convenient.

Okay you might find some questionable sticky stuff on the ground and the odor of the Anchorage Recycling Center may not give the average person's sniffer the warm fuzzies. But it certainly beats the Anchorage Landfill when it comes to both and better yet, its free. And I am doing right by the earth by making my eco footprint as small as possible with recycling. The containers are emptied on a regular basis. I have been bringing my recycling on a semi-weekly basis to the Anchorage Recycling Center for close to five years now. I have dropped by all hours of the day and night given they are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They also have regular weekly business hours for acceptance of aluminum cans. Additionally I haven't run into the bins being full like I have encountered many times at the Anchorage Landfill. Given the majority of the items I recycle and bring in are broken down boxes and paper, I usually park over in front of those bins. And speaking of parking. Note that parking can be an issue at times because a lot of people come here. I used to prefer going on the weekends when they tended to have extra bins over in front of the building. But have not seen those for a while. I do wish they would bring them back. The Anchorage Recycling Center accepts aluminum cans, steel cans, mixed paper, corrugated cardboard, newspaper, plastic bottles, plastic jugs, bags and film as well as glass bottles and jars. Back in 2012 glass bottles and jars that were dropped off are hauled to a central recycling service where they are further crushed into a RGA (recycled glass aggregate) and turned into a locally produced product. I requested the old recycling center review name be changed to ARC, but apparently it's easier for Yelp to scrap old reviews and make a new business page altogether. Anyhoo... This place has been open for at least 15 years, or that's as long as I've been hauling my recycling here. I like that there are options for everything from tin cans to #2 plastic. I don't understand why you can't recycle #5 when my work offers that option. I know Anchorage has curbside pick-up now, but I'm cheap and I would rather save $15/month and do it myself when it takes less than 5 minutes to empty a bin. All in all, I know it's expensive to send the recycling off to Seattle for processing, but it still makes me feel like I'm doing a little for the world, even though in reality I'm probably not. read more

Every time I come here, this place is almost always crowded. It can get very hectic. You can recycle anything from cardboards, mixed papers, glass jars, aluminum, tin/metal,... Unfortunately, they don't accept plastic bags anymore. A few years ago, I worked as a Recycling Crew team member for a large organization. In this capacity, I interacted with the staff here regularly. One day, my co-workers called out and I was left to drop off the week's recycling alone. I received a phone call while working, emptying bags of plastic bottles into a large container in the back lot. I took the call on my AirPods so that the call would not interfere with my work. Regardless, a Recycling Center employee began screaming at me from across the lot to get off my phone because I was "wasting time" and there were "other people" who needed access to the same bin I was using. He was condescending, unprofessional, and a liar; the entire rest of the lot was empty. Mine was the only vehicle in the entire lot, especially since it was 11AM on a Friday. So if at all possible, avoid talking to their staff; just drop off your stuff and leave. read more

I think possibly the only place that takes a majority of household recycleables. They have open bins where you may drop off any time. My only constructive criticism I can offer would be to expand (possibly adding more locations) and getting with JBER and innovating a recycling program there. read more
