    Desayuno with a view.

The culinary highlight of our Spain vacation. There's no weak link: The food is superb, the service highly professional, warm and friendly, and the ambiance is like nothing else. Albacara is the restaurant for the Hotel Montelirio, which inhabits the former villa of Count Montelirio. The dining room is not large, perhaps only 15 tables or so, but with one of the most breathtaking views anywhere in the world--overlooking El Tajo close to Puente Nuevo of historic Ronda. You'll enjoy a 180 degree view of the countryside looking out toward the mountains in the close distance, the mouth of El Tajo, the bridge, and the "new" town across the gorge. It's incredible, morning, midday and sunset. But it's not all about the view. The room is lovely, with classic Spanish arches, and tastefully appointed. The manager is a terrific fellow, who clearly is proud of the restaurant and genuinely seems to enjoy interacting with his patrons, and is fluent in both Spanish and English. The waiter is also highly trained and professional, but is primarily a Spanish speaker. But that's fine, hey--it's their country. Best sangria in the world here. And I don't say that lightly. It's knock-your-socks-off fabulous. In the warm weather, you can order a few glasses, and perhaps an appetiser and enjoy their outdoor terrace with the view. We ate at Albacara for dinner and lunch. For dinner, mi esposa bonita and I shared the Sea Bass baked in salt. Some of the best fish I've ever had and the presentation where the waiter chips away at the salt to debone the fish tableside is worth the price of admission. Some of the most flavorful and moist fish. For an amuse bouche, they brought pate with quince, pistachio and fras gras. I usually don't eat fras gras for various reasons, but made an exception, and was amazed at how delicious this pate was on simple toasts and drizzled with a Pedro Ximenez wine reduction. Sublime. It's been several days, but I can still visualize how good it tasted. Excellent desserts-- don't pass it up. I had stewed banana in passion fruit and white chocolate soup. Oh yes! And the missus had the liquored figs, cream and vanilla ice cream, which was equally as transcendant. If you don't come here for at least one meal while you're in Ronda, you're cheating yourself.

Wow! The views are amazing at sunset. We ordered the cod and steak and both were perfect. Service also. Try the local wine.

Amazing views (if you are seating outside first row), very good food, regular service . It's good if you are not in a hurry and you just want to enjoy the moment.

66 euros for an excellent lunch with a bottle of wine, and a million dollar view

When visiting Ronda, know that it is very crowded in the afternoons when the tour buses from nearby cities drop off tourists. We walked across the bridge looking for a lunch spot with a view. We walked into Albacara and asked for a table for two. The kind (but very busy) server offered us a table with a beautiful view of the bridge and gorge. He warned us that the kitchen was a little backed up because they were very busy. We didn't mind, we ordered a bottle of local rosé and enjoyed the view. Our (extremely) polite server suggested the duck and the octopus. The duck was incredible, I literally picked the bones for every last bit of meat and I ate all of the tasty sautéed veggies that accompanied the dish. The octopus wasn't as good as the duck, but it was fresh and well prepared. I was very impressed at how composed our server was. The restaurant was very busy and you could tell that he was pretty stressed out. But you would never know it from the way he treated us, he was very polite and patient when we had questions about the menu. If you're going to Ronda, you should definitely drop by here for lunch or dinner. The only bad part of our experience were the bees. Toward the end of our meal, we were visited by a couple of bees who wanted to munch on our leftovers. They didn't bother me much, but another table got up and left because of the insect invaders (perhaps one of them was allergic?).

Review based on the restaurant Albacara only. Great spot for an upscale meal in Ronda. Superb service. We went with the cheese salad appetizer and the T-bone steak for 2 as the main entree. They carve the steak at the table and you cook it to your liking on the hot plate. It's a lot of fun. We also got a great bottle of local wine. Price wise it was 100€ for the meal plus dessert and an after dinner drink for both of us. I would definitely return.

    Iberian Ham!

Amazing food with a view! We started with the red prawn balls which reminded us of crab cakes back home. Then I had the oxtail soup which was amazing. My wife had the Iberian Ham and that was also very tasty. We would eat here again. The waiter was also very nice and attentive to us during the meal.

Maybe I should get out of that mentality, because everywhere we ate in Spain that was close to popular attractions was decent. Anyways, I digress. The service was excellent. It was definitely fine dining. They used an aerator for our wine, and kept refilling when our glasses were close to finishing, which was attentive service. The cod and avocado salad was amazing. They used avocado skin rather than avocado meat, which gave the salad an extra crunch rather than creaminess, which I thoroughly enjoyed and was unexpected. There were orange slices, quail egg bits, and black olives (which were NOT at all bitter, despite other occasions we've had black olives). It was a wonderful balance. The paella was delicious. We got the seafood paella; although it wasn't as crunchy as we had hoped, the seafood flavor was super saturated. Plus, there was sooo much good and fresh seafood! Salmorejo was soooo good. We did a cooking class the previous day where we made salmorejo and we couldn't get enough! It is similar to gazpacho, but tomato-based. No salmon in it as you might guess :P But very creamy and topped with chopped hard boiled egg and quality jamon. There was a leg of jamon sitting on a table next to me looking DIVINE, so I was excited to have it in our soup. Tiramisu was delicious too. Not typical to what I've had before, but the ladyfingers at the bottom were not crushed, but rather whole. I loved it! Also, quite possibly the BEST wine we had all trip. So sad we couldn't bring it back with us, but ask for their recommendation, and you won't regret it... It was a local Ronda wine. If you're around the area, definitely check it out! Great date spot, romantic and quaint.

Top-notch service and great food. One of my favorite meals in Spain…read more Given the late lunch-time heat, we chose to sit alone inside to people watch at the window and take in the bull fighting artwork in the comfort of AC. The meal started with 3 complimentary bites (Spanish omelette, tuna, and mussels). I had the garlicky gazpacho to start, which was poured into my bowl for a little table side pizzaz, followed by the fried eggplant which was very light and delightfully sweet. The bull tail was impressively large (although a lot of it bone), and cooked so tenderly no knife was needed. The flan dessert was a bit of a work of art and its taste on par with its appearance. Finally, our meal ended with complimentary sweet wine. The service could not have been more attentive nor nicer. We realized when we exited we were the only ones left because of siesta, but there was absolutely no rushing. Should I ever return to Ronda, it'd be my first stop.
