Nice hike. Not very challenging, but if you want a quick walk this is perfect. Really nice views at sunset and benches towards the top of the hill. Lots of monarch butterflies, they were beautiful! For those who are wondering, the swing is no longer there.

If you're in the mood to chase your partner around in a frisky manner, hoping to get some nature-nooky, this park is apparently a popular place to do it. At least if you're a butterfly. For the rest of us, it's not really ideal for that purpose--most of the park was either way too exposed or way too steep for playtime, unless you're really into that kind of thing. At the very top is a good spot for a picnic, however, and that was a nice find. With benches, a rope swing (see picture), and wildflowers. you could create a date right out of a Picasso painting. As a place to just take a little urban hike and enjoy the sun, the park is nice. Most of the access come from the 3 roads that wind up the hill and dead-end at different elevations, each with expensive, earthquake-taunting homes along the sides. As I climbed the hill from the base, I felt mocked for my efforts each time I crossed one--"All this work and I could have just DRIVEN up here!" Except for the very top, the trails are narrow, moderately steep, and not heavily maintained. As with most parks, alcohol and anything involving the word "fire" are prohibited. (ie. Campfires, fireworks, firearms, firewater...) The base of the hill on the north side abuts the residential neighborhood and boasts a small family- and picnic-friendly park, complete with a play structure (see pictures). It's right along the creek and the city has posted interpretive nature signs along the path describing the riverine ecosystem and the history of stream management in the area. TRIVIA: Dammit, I got scooped! Jessica M. stole my trivia about the city of El Cerrito being named for this hill.

The new, but somehow tattered, sign.

There is a closure due to construction so you have to find different paths to run to make your running workout worth doing.

There's nothing much I like more than the sharp smell of eucalyptus on a crisp, sunny day.

Wish I knew about this garden when I was a student at CAL. This park is part of the landscaping…read moreprogram at CAL. Even the door was inconspicuous and at first glance, we were not sure if the entry was the secret staff entry or an actual entryway. It was my first time here and it was hidden in a quiet Kensington neighborhood. I accidentally found this park on Yelp and didn't think much about it but my hubby and I were surprised how charming this park is. It was like a little fairyland full of ethereal cottage flowers such as wispy cosmos moving with the breeze and happy bees everywhere. There were volunteers planting Benary zinnias and other flowers. There was a clean bathroom inside their office and plants offered for a donation. I saw mothers with their babies talking as if they come here all the time. There was a group of elderly women chatting and enjoying the peaceful garden. I was there for 30 minutes before lunch and only saw about 35 percent of the garden and I look forward to another trip to this secret garden in Kensington.

This garden is a bit off the beaten path, it's part of UC Berkeley but 3.5 miles north in the hills…read moreof Kensington. I was surprised because it was much bigger than I had imagined. At 10 acres it's a pretty decent size with a maze of little trails to explore and over 1,500 plant species. I wish they had more signage of what everything was, there were a few placards but for people that are really into botany it would have been more interesting. My favorite parts were the views of the bay and the redwood forest nestled near a creek. It's very calm here, probably because it's only open on the weekdays so it doesn't get too crowded. It's is ideal for a romantic stroll, or to take a meditative walk and it has many benches around to sit.

This park is just really cool. On afternoons and weekends it's usually packed full of people. It…read morecan be hard at times to find a parking spot but shouldn't be too difficult to park on a side street if needed. There are several parts to this park. One is a flat area with a play scape and a cement slide. There's actually a tunnel nearby that goes under the road and crosses over to the rose garden, which is really cool. The cement slide is a must see for anyone with kids and even if you're an adventurous adult. There are plenty of cardboard boxes around for you to try it out. When I first heard about the cement slide, I didn't think it would be very fun, (cement and sliding didn't go together in my mind) but it is great! Then just a little bit south, above that play scape area, there's a baseball field. So many different people come here to meet. Some people for picnics, some people play soccer, some people play softball, some people bring their dogs. And then inside the woods behind the park, there are a picnic benches. I have a friend who had her wedding reception there. You can reserve them with the city. And then behind the picnic area, there's a hike and if you're very adventurous, there is a waterfall hidden, but it's not easy to find if you don't know about it. I highly recommend this park. During the winter, the baseball field is blocked off with Fence to protect the grass but other parts of the park are accessible.
