I stayed at this hotel over the Easter weekend, and I was very pleasantly surprised…read more I was with my family, so there were 4 of us, and unlike most affordable hotels, the family room was a very nice size, with proper twin beds for the girls instead of a stupid pull-out couch or a temporary, folding boxspring and mattress. We opted for the half-pension, and I was quite impressed with the food - every day there was a choice among 4 first courses and 4 second courses + sides, and a really amazing dessert buffet. And before the first course arrived, there was also a large appetizer buffet. Everything I tasted was very good even to my discerning Italian palate, which has never happened to me when staying at a hotel. At breakfast there was a very nice spread, with lots of freshly-baked cakes, breads and croissants, as well as fresh eggs ready to be boiled to each guest's preference, platters of sliced cheese and deli meat, a few kinds of cereal, two kinds of yogurt, and some fresh fruit. The fresh fruit is where I was most disappointed, as there was very limited choice, and if you are intolerant to dairy and gluten as I am, leaves you with deli meat, eggs and an orange or an apple. Also, there was no fresh juice but instead this inferior juice-like drink dispensed from a drink fountain. Another thing I didn't like was that the bath tub didn't have a curtain around it nor a screen, so every time anyone took a shower the bathroom became a slippery mess. But those are really the only two things that weren't perfect - both my family and I loved our stay! They also used the pool and the steam room, which are downstairs and free to use for all guests. Unfortunately I didn't have time to book any spa services, but I will next time :-) The best part is that the hotel is right at the lake, so you can take a lovely walk on the lungolago and go for a swim, or a bike ride, or simply walk to the old town and marvel at the gorgeous architectural details. The hotel's ambiance is breathtaking. The gardens are so beautiful and tranquil. Having a terrace with our room and waking up each morning to the magical views was perfection. When we arrived and sat on the veranda having an aperitif we felt like this is heaven. The breakfast was spectacular. There is everything you could want and more. We had a delicious truffle dinner one evening and lite bites on the veranda or by the bar and everything was delicious. We took advantage of some of the spa facilities and pool and it's just what we needed to feel relaxed. By far the staff is what makes the experience even more exceptional. Diego, Luca, Francesca, Christopher, Hamet, everyone at reception, Katerina in the spa, Marina at breakfast and all the servers, sorry to leave out so many of the staff that made us feel so special. Thank you Lido Palace, we hope to come back and stay much longer next time.
