And then, there is a mad scramble to find an elder law attorney. Our 79 year old father fell and hit his head on the floor. After the fall, he was no longer capable of independent living and could not return to his apartment. We needed to locate a nursing home facility fast. We are not able to self pay the high cost of the nursing home and needed to apply for Medicare coverage. Doug helped us to navigate through the Medicare application process. Doug was experienced, efficient and responsive. We had consulted with two other elder law attorneys in NYC before finding Doug. They both suggested that we create a trust, which were not necessary given my father's limited resources. However, it was a way for them to make money by selling the trust to us. This other attorney also quoted us legal fees that were 150% above Doug's. On top of these legal fees, the attorney tacked on $500 to prepare a statutory power of attorney that you can download off the web if you know where to look. She also told us that we needed to rewrite our simple will because it was not on her form. Overall, we are pleased with Doug's legal services.
