This is a reasonably large Albert Heijn location, located on Ms. van Riemsdijkweg in the NDSM Wharf area of Amsterdam, this location was ideal for me as it is in close proximity to the Doubletree by Hilton, where I was staying, while also being close to the IJ Ferry.
For tourists, Albert Heijin is the largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands, it's pretty much a brand you can't hide from and it seems they have stores everywhere you look with almost 1000 stores in the Netherlands.
This store is slightly cheaper than the Albert Heijn stores closer to Amsterdam centre, especially the stores in Centraal Station, that being said I did find Albert Heijn to be expensive overall, so being slightly cheaper than other stores seems to be as good as it gets...
The selection here is fairly good, and I was able to choose from a selection of bottled water, iced tea and milk, which I needed to take back to my hotel room.
This store only accepts Dutch Maestro cards and does not accept international Mastercard/Visa Cards which is frustrating, given the fact it is one of the few supermarkets nearby. They do accept cash though and there is an ATM right outside the store, but still makes the shopping experience unnecessarily more complicated and time-consuming. For some reason, they have signs stating Visa/Mastercard are not accepted at the manned checkouts, but not the self-service checkouts, and I only realised after scanning and bagging my entire shopping and being forced to use a different till by a staff member after querying why my card payment would not go through.
3* - Decent supermarket, but not accepting international cards in an area likely to get a large number of travellers due to NDSM being a cool part of the city, with a hotel opposite, which seems odd to me. read more
