This Albert Heijn location is located right next to the Apple Store on Leidseplein, a short walk away from the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel and tram services, in a central point within the city.
It is one of the larger Albert Heijn stores nearby, the contrast between the glass entrance and being housed in an older-style building also seemed to look rather interesting and inviting.
The selection in the store was pretty good, there was also a bakery section with fresh bread and pastries.
I did find the quality of the produce to be poor, especially with the vegetables.
Like most AHs, they have a machine to make your own freshly squeezed orange juice, I did originally think the machine was out of order, but it turns out, they expect customers to load the machines with oranges, the oranges beside the machine didn't appear to look in the greatest of shape and that came across in the overall taste/quality of the OJ. I don't mind loading them into the machine myself if it meant the freshness would improve, but if anything it just felt like they had the same oranges sitting there for some time.
The self-checkout area was clean and easy to use, with an English language option, although you must retain your receipt to exit the store, on my first visit to the store they didn't have what I was looking to purchase so I did have difficulty leaving the store and had to wait for another customer to exit to follow them behind.
3* - The store is clean and modern and is in a good location, although the quality of the fruit and vegetables is one of the more immediate improvements necessary. read more
