I was rear ended on the way to work yesterday. I contacted police on the scene, and they informed…read moreme that I can continue to work and go to a police station when I'm able to. (Since no injuries / car is drivable) I stopped by district 17 PD in Albany Park after work, to which an officer kindly advised me of the extended wait time, and informed me I had 10 days to file the report. Wanting to rest after work, I thanked him and decided to head back the next day. Today, I went to this police station in lake view east, since it's closer to me. After entering, I was called over by one of the police officers. He was older-middle aged, and Hispanic/latino. He asked me where the crash occurred, and I gave him the intersection we were at. He told me he needed an address and to pull out my phone and get it. Sure no problem - I'm happy to do that. He then makes a comment that I should know traffic rules and laws before coming there. I felt that was totally unnecessary. I just moved into the city a few months ago, and this is the first time I was asked specifically for an address. Wanting to just get this report filed and done with, I gave the officer the address I found. Next, the officer says since it's been a day since the accident, there's a chance the other party in the accident has filed a report already. He said he did not want two reports to be filed and instructed me to contact the other party to ask if he has filed a police report already. The other party was clearly at fault, and they sustained minimal damage to their vehicle. On the other hand, it's clear I will need at least a new bumper put on. I had already filed a claim with their insurance before coming in as well. So I questioned why it was necessary to contact the other driver. I couldn't imagine why the other party would go and file a report already, when they might not need any repairs at all and had already admitted fault. Then, the officer sighs, shakes his head, and tells me it was necessary that we contacted to ask if they had already filed a report. He then said something along the lines of, "here - give me their number. I'll call them if you're too scared to do it." I came for help but instead was bullied by a full grown adult. After that comment, I walked out, because I couldn't take any more of the cruel and unnecessary comments. I decided to make the 30 minute drive back to district 17, and was helped by a different officer than the one I had spoken to the night before. He was able to help me, without complaining or criticizing, and while treating me with the amount of respect and dignity that all people deserve. He was kind, helpful, and patient with me. It was so relieving after the experience I had just had at this station - in lake view. I want to shout out all of the officers at district 17 PD for their friendliness and their willingness to help. That is how you protect and serve the public. I'm so incredibly disappointed with how the officer at the district 19 PD on Addison street handled my request. His attitude and senseless cruelty is harmful to the community he has vowed to serve. Shame on him for his actions today.

Instead of helping me the man who answered the phone yelled at me about how I need to "change my way of thinking" and he "doesn't understand what's wrong with people these days who don't want to call the police." I do not understand where this attitude was coming from, but I certainly did not need a lecture, I was just asking very nicely where to direct my call if that number was not the correct one. Maybe people don't call the proper lines because of people like this guy who don't know how to be kind and helpful!

When calling to check delivery status on items being shipped that have a strange status request,…read moreyou want to calm and get accurate description to the status - BUT, the people at this facility MEVER answer the phone. No option to leave voicemail and the ringer rings for probably 5 minutes and then disconnects. So, I call back and continue to do so for the next 45 minutes - NO ONE ever answers the calls!!! Not helpful to customers at all. The entire Chicago USPS is God awful and no supervisors or managers se to care either. If you can, don't use USPS as they customer service is nonexistent and half the time they "lose" your package. Ship with UPS instead and actually speak to someone whe having and issue with your delivery. This PO sucks and the people working there have ZERO customer service skills.

I had a package I needed to send, but I don't own a printer and I needed to print a prepaid shipping label. After about 10 minutes of standing at the desk ringing the bell, a woman begrudgingly walked out, asked what I wanted, and I said I needed to ship a package but didn't have the label printed so I was hoping they could print it for me. She looked at me and said "we don't do that here" and stormed off. Honestly not sure why this location is still open after all the terrible reviews it has...

This is probably the least helpful and friendly library branch. Merlot and Lincoln Park are so much…read morebetter. We went in today to register for the summer reading program (kids have already completed two other programs at libraries outside of Chicago). The two teens at the reading program table didn't have any sign up forms and sent us to front desk (they are volunteer kids, I have no issue with them). I was explaining to the front desk person that they sent me up there to get a form and she interrupted me and told me I needed to go to summer reading table to get the form. Then another person at the front desk that I can go over to it seemed to be another table like an information desk. I went over there and she said oh no yeah we don't have any more forms and the program ends in August anyway. I've never been in a library where people were more discouraged to read. Lincoln Park is a little further away from us, but that's going to be our go to from now on.

This little library branch is hidden on Melrose just off of Lincoln. I never realized it was here…read moreeven though I only live about ten minutes away and have driven along Lincoln and Belmont within a block a million times. When combing the CPL's events calendar for baby and children's programs to which I could take my daughter, I found they have a story and play event for children under two years of age. Just the sort of thing I was looking for since much of the programming is either geared toward older children or has such a wide range (for instance, zero to five or zero to 13) that I'm not sure it's really geared toward children as young as mine currently is (six weeks when we visited the first time). It's not a large branch by any stretch of the imagination, but my viewpoint may be a bit skewed since the Sulzer Regional Library is my "home" library and it's quite large. The Lincoln-Belmont branch has a multipurpose room and what seems to me to be a relatively large children's area (it takes up about a third of the library). They have some tables and chairs for patrons throughout the library, and a few "pods" (for lack of a better term) that are individual semi-enclosed spaces for working or what have you. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a larger than typical children's section for the size because they also have stroller parking near the restrooms at the front. It makes sense to some extent, since it's not a huge place and getting a couple strollers around would clog up the place. With the children's events taking place largely in the multipurpose room, they aren't in the way of other patrons. I am surprised that it works so well since I'd be a little concerned about someone stealing my stroller. My little one registered as completing her first reading challenge here since I've been reading to her just about nightly since birth. I felt a little out of place at the first baby program we attended, but not as much at the second. There were about 20 other moms and babies at the first and three at the second and it was nice to have the larger and more intimate groups. I'm going to give it one more try by attending the next one to see how I feel. The librarian had a variety of activities for the little ones but it was geared more towards walkers (most of the branches are the same). There's parking at this branch in a private lot for the library, as well as a few spots on Melrose Avenue in front of the library building, so it will be easy to get here again.
