Everyone here was in high spirits, making jokes and laughing with each other, and just pleasant to talk to while being serviced which I personally appreciate I came in two days in a row to get new plates. There is street parking around so you can easily find a spot nearby. First time was a wednesday afternoon and I was in and out in like 5 minutes. Theres a staff member at the door when you enter the building that'll navigate you to where you need to go based on the reason for your visit. I went downstairs to inquire about switching plates and came out with a renewed registration shortly after I couldnt order my plates online so I returned again on friday. They have a ticketing system where theyll call your number to a service desk. Theres nearly 20 of them so this section is highly staffed and things move quickly even though there weren't much people both times i went during the week. I ultimately needed a money order or check for them to process my request so fortunately because its downtown I could easily step away to a nearby bank and get one. I did so and best part is... the supervisor Dre personally took care of me, called me over without my ticket being rung up because he knew I was returning and helped me fill out the necessary paper work, again in a timely fashion The overall good vibes and efficiency of everything was already enough to make my experience positive here but that personal service I received really took it over the top and makes this a well deserved 5 star rating for this facility - this will certainly be my go to location from now on for future dmv visits, highly recommend (lives up to the flagship center name)

The first thing out of his mouth was "Give me your license" I was pretty disturbed as the tone was forceful. At the end of giving them all my info they gave me some crazy answer that I needed to contact the car manufacture and have them contact the bank that owns my title of the car. That was the answer I got and I think they are wrong. I went online and filled out the form to get Illinois plates. My advice is stay away from this flag ship office and go online.

I was involved in an unfortunate incident where a driver decided to make a right turn in front of…read moreme. The lady's car had a huge dent. She was very upset and demanded me to meet her at the police station. Since I knew I was not at fault, I happily obliged. Officer Beltran greeted us. She patiently listened to the other driver describe the incident and demonstrated with matchbox cars. In doing so, the other driver unknowingly admitted that she was the guilty party. Silently I stood. I felt for her. Officer Beltran was very professional and curteous. Police Officers often get a bad rap. I have many friends in law enforcement. Next time you have a run in with a police officer, please remember respect is a two way street.

Came to the Chinatown DMV twice for real IDs and its def the most convenient for those of us in the…read morebridgeport and surrounding areas This location is appointment only and was relatively easy to book - had to reschedule once and was able to get a slot a couple days later. There are two parking lots as part of the canal plaza, which can easily fill up depending on the time of day (earlier times seems to have worked out better for me). People also park directly outside on Archer for quick appointments but try at your own risk (not allowed at a certain point) The place is small but set up in a way to move efficiently and in an organized fashion. You'll line up outside to get your appointment details verified and will be let in shortly Once you're in, the staff is generally pretty tame and helpful compared to other locations. There was less asian representation than I expected but overall pretty diverse, mainly with English and Spanish speaking individuals with limited mandarin but no dedicated Cantonese staff on site (at least when I went) Besides all that, the pacing will be limited to 6 computers/stations attending to patrons at a time. No public restrooms and 2 dedicated seats for seniors. While you wait, you can vibe to some mainstream pop music as thats what theyre often playing inside lol (PS: there is a place next door where you can print documents for $3 if you need to if itll save you a trip back and forth) I think things will move relatively quickly - i had a more complicated use case so spent over an hour there but that should certainly not be the norm. Paul and one of the managers Luz worked patiently with me to verify my documents and answer the questions I had while walking me through and explaining why some procedures were being done (green card, marriage name vs maiden name type situation). I swear! By the time I found Illinois Secretary of State Driver Services Facility - Chinatown my…read morepanties were all in a bunch, seriously! I found it by typing in my browser "What dmv locations in Chicago do not require appointments", a day prior to my birthday which was the expiration date of my driver's license. I must say that being inside of the Illinois Secretary of State Driver Services Facility was the last thing I envisioned for myself on the day of my birthday, but this visit was a must. I was grateful to find a parking garage attached to this location off of Archer Ave that does not require any payments. I arrived twenty minutes into its opening for the day. If you have other plans going on for the day, I do recommend showing up early, but if you cannot it really does not matter when you show up because the line moves at a very acceptable pace. While waiting in the line outside, I really loved the visual of Willis Tower, formerly Sears Tower which sat from a distance. I visited during the winter and stood in a line outside that took no more than twenty minutes for me to make it inside in the warmth. For each person that exited, another person entered, and it moved at a very nice pace as I mentioned already. If you are visiting during the winter as I did, I recommend arriving layered up to keep warm because once the cold chill hits you it is over honey! If you have everything that is required to update your information, the process moves by smoothly! I tend to go overboard, bringing excessive things that I likely will not need, but it is better to be safe than sorry, right? I never want to arrive without everything I need and have to leave without updating something like a driver's license. Something that I wanted to update on my driver's license was my veteran status. With that, I brought with me my DD Form 214, my old military identification card, and my veteran affairs healthcare enrollee identification card which ended up being accepted. So, with that, if you have served in the military, they will accept your veteran affairs healthcare enrollee identification card which appears just like a military identification card. If you do not have that, then I recommend using your DD Form 214 to show proof of your service in the military. The whole entire process of me updating my driver's license took no more than an hour. I highly recommend the Illinois Secretary of State Driver Services Facility - Chinatown if you are wanting to update as soon as possible. Was NOT looking forward to having to renew my DL or going to the DMV, needed my Real ID too -…read moreusually it is the WORST experience, takes hours of your time and you're faced with grumpy workers. I put this off until the last possible minute because it is the last thing I want to do, but finally decided yesterday was the day to get it over with. So pleasantly surprised! Walked in - areas are roped off in sections. First section is the Check-in area. There was no line and I was able to see a customer care representative immediately - he was really nice - I was shocked but going with it. The key is to come prepared with necessary proof of identity and proof of residence, my DL was expired so I brought my expired DL, birth certificate, voters registration card and a current bank statement to prove my residence, so I was good. I was sent to the next roped off section where there was no waiting, I had to get my picture taken - that took about 1 min, the guy was really nice again and he's like "it's a good picture" I was sent to the next roped section where again I was able to sit down immediately at this station with another pleasant gentleman where my documents were scanned in, I answered like 7 questions and I took a quick vision test. In about 5 - 7 minutes I was sent to the next section, the cashier - there were 2 people in front of me but this still was super quick maybe 2 - 3 minutes - paid $30 for my Real ID and DL renewal - the Real ID is only $6. Sent next to a 'star' spot to wait until my name was called - maybe 30 seconds - during this time I noticed there was this nice French music playing from a speaker on the table in front of me and I said to the lady waiting alongside me....this music doesn't really go with the no frills gov't white paint and concrete environment...but honestly I think this office was really trying to make our customer experience a better one and I can appreciate that effort. I waited for my name to be called, again it was 30 seconds - where I received my temporary DL and was told by another pleasant worker that I would get my Real ID in the mail in about 2 weeks and I was outta there! All-in-all it was about a 15 - 20 min process but because it moved along so quickly it didn't even seem like that long. This facility is super efficient, everyone was really pleasant to work with and I am shocked to say that going to the DMV was painless and a good experience. Task completed and I was able to get on with my day!

Wow this is probably the most streamlined experience I have had at a DMV! And the best customer…read moreservice at a DMV too! I came to renew my REAL ID license on a busy Friday afternoon. The line was very long but it moved along, and there were staff positioned along the line to help answer questions, announce the paperwork requirements, and generally facilitate so that the line kept moving and everyone was ready or redirected by the time they reached the front of the first line. Keep in mind they have specific services here which are more limited than other DMVs. They mostly focus on IDs. When you reach the front of the first line, they will quickly check you have your correct documents then send you to the photo station where you take your photo. Then they tell you follow the arrows through a different line. I don't recommend trying to walk under the ropes/belts that divide up the line because you might end up in the wrong line! This next part is where they actually process your paperwork, ask you some questions, and check your vision. If you pass they send you to the cashier line, pay your fee, then they have you wait on the side for the temporary ID to print. The first line takes the longest and from there things move pretty efficiently. All the staff were pretty helpful and pleasant and friendly! Generally chill vibes. From start to finish it took just under 45 minutes. I bet it would be faster on a weekday or when it's not the Friday before Easter!

I was surprised that the wait was not bad at all--maybe ten minutes at most--and though the employee wasn't overly friendly, she also wasn't mean. I went a bit before noon to pick up. If you purchase residential permits online, I think there's a slightly higher cost but of course there's the convenience factor that can overcome that. You'll just need your customer ID number to make that online purchase.

This police station is absolutely horrible. Every time I walk in here, they are always lallygagging…read moreand not being attentive. I've come in here numerous of times because in the short 3 years, I've been in Chicago, I've been the victim of plenty of crimes. From identity theft, to being physically assaulted by thugs while walking to the bus stop countless times to being hit in my car by a loser who got mad at me because HE HIT ME. I was in an accident when I first moved here. My car was already on it's last leg and me being t-boned by some creep who doesn't stop at stop signs did not help. My car was done for after that. I called the police and they took their sweet time coming. They, of course, grilled me for whatever reason about my license and insurance which was legit. Apparently, the other guy's insurance had lapsed, YEARS ago and the police never bothered to notice it. I even heard him telling the guy, 'don't worry about it. People like her only want the money.' Insinuating that I only called the police because I wanted some money out of this crumby looking middle aged man who drove an old chevy truck. Get real. To top it off, the guy never got a ticket for anything. He drove away smiling and mocking me because the officer obviously took his side even though, my driver side was totaled. Since then, I've had no car so I have to walk a few steps to the bus stop and many times, from my doorstep to the bust, I've been assaulted by thugs trying to rob me and grab me and nothing has ever been done. I've called the police and walked to the station after those incidents and all they do is roll their eyes and struggle to write a report out for me. Seriously? I knew Chicago was crooked, but this takes the cake. I don't see how people still live here, literally. How are they alive with this bogus police station. They do absolutely nothing. Finding other areas that are in my price range and that are safer is hard, otherwise I would have been gone. I'm paying my taxes to them to not protect and serve me. I am a minority single woman and I depend on them to help me when my safety is threatened. None of those times were the case. I tried complaining to many superiors, but nothing is ever done. I am utterly shocked and appalled by their behavior.
