Uh, why would anyone choose to shop here? Out of sheer desperation, I guess…read more This place is beyond ridiculous. Out of date food items, dust and rust on canned goods, dirty shelves, low stock, high prices, and the store smells heavily of mildew and mold. The walls are covered in water stains. The shelves are stained and old. Nothing has been upgraded in decades, if it ever was remodeled. This place has a prime downtown location and could be turned into a quality deli or gourmet food shop or liquor store. It needs a major renovation, a deep cleaning, better quality stock and good prices and a staff that actually notices when people walk in and isn't bent over their phones in the back room or ignoring customers on their phones by the register (yeah, I saw that). I think this store is a relic of days past and with a very nice Meijer down the street and decent Kroger a few blocks away on the same main drag, why bother with this place? It isn't any more convenient in regards to location and it doesn't have anything you'd want and the prices are higher than anywhere else, plus the store smells like mildew. I got a bad headache and had watery eyes after being in here five minutes. It is that filthy. I didn't feel well for hours afterward. My wife had an asthma attack from walking inside and being in here five minutes. Everywhere we looked, the shelves were badly stocked and items had layers of dust on them, and many food items were expired and still on the shelf. The prices for what they are selling are far more than other competing grocery store chains.

I went there a second time thinking maybe, just maybe they were having a bad attirude day, but this time I took my wife who has never been there. I laughed as my wife walked out vowing never again.

People of Flint, you have 2 exports to be proud of; Michael Moore and Koegel Hot Dogs…read more Now how in the heck can I review Koegel Hot Dogs if I am in Pennsylvania? An explanation is needed. Here in Pittsburgh, we have an old church-turned-bar/concert venue called Altar that is located in the Strip District section of the city. Altar does not serve food, but out front during an event, you'll often find a hot dog cart operated by a guy/gal tandem. Sometime last year, I went to Altar for the first time, and needing to stave off hunger pangs, decided to get a frank or 2 before entering Altar. In doing so, I tasted the most daringly different damn dog ever. After chatting with the vendor, I found out where they originated from and located a website later that evening at home. Here I was thinking at first that perhaps the vendors made the dogs themselves or got them from a local butcher. That's how perfect they are. "Serve the curve" for darn sure. Hell, they're way ahead of it. Tie me up with a rope made of these linked franks anyday so I can eat my way out of my bonds like an escape artist/competitive eater hybrid. Then repeat.

The fruit and veggie selection was much smaller than I had hoped for ~ not sure if this quantity is the norm. The prices are about what one would expect for organic and health food items. Some of my favorites are the buffalo barbeque sandwich, mixed veggie with avocado sandwich, and the tuna salad sandwich. I usually order mine on a spelt tortilla wrap instead of sliced spelt bread, but both of them are wonderful. They even offer sprouts too! All of the soups are amazing. They are organic and made from scratch with the alkaline ionized water, which is produced by the store as well. I love just sitting out on their porch and enjoying delicious, healthy food! I don't know if there is anything better. Their smoothies and shakes are clean and packed with real flavor. They use only organic fruit and fruit juice (no flavored syrups/concentrates, ice, or any unnecessary additives). For my fellow coffee lovers, they have organic coffee (made with alkaline water) everyday. It is so much better than any other coffee I've had! They even have soy coffee creamer! This store has a lot of grocery items that you can't find anywhere else. All kinds of delicious specialty breads, wild caught fish, and grass fed meats. They carry a lot of awesome Michigan-made products as well. The Grainery also has kombucha, natural energy drinks/shots, ginger beer, and many other awesome natural beverages in all different flavors. If you've never been here, I would strongly encourage you to give it a try! You won't be disappointed. :)
