Excellent littler pub in the heart of Bath, about 5 minutes from the Train Station. The bar area is pretty tiny, and ale selection small, but what ales and bitters there are, are all excellent, traditionally English. Very friendly staff, and in the day time at least, a fairly high number of tourists making up the clientele. Crisps and a pint of traditional ale. Simplicity works!

Small Pub on the Circle near the Roman Baths. I had the Steak n' Ale Pie, Chips, & Peas w/ a pt of Guinness. The pie was outstanding, loaded with chunks of flavorful beef in a rich gravy & topped with flakey pastry. The chips & peas were OK; the Guinness expectedly excellent. The bartender ran the show, i.e. took one's order, poured the beer, got the food from the kitchen, & delivered everything to the table.

Sadly, there was no roast beef when we arrived so we'll have to wait for the classic Sunday roast. Steak and ale pie, and a butternut squash pie were good substitutes. The pub is unassuming on the outside but nice inside. There are two sections those for indoor dining and those wanting to sit outdoors or hang by the bar, we chose the latter. Outside is wonderful with a nice patio, plants, and plenty of shade. With the warm weather, this was a popular spot for folks. Service was friendly but limited. You order and pay for your food and drinks at the bar, they bring it out to you and that's it. I had a Lemon Chicken Pesto Sandwich. It was fine but nothing spectacular. I wish there was more filling to the sandwich, it was very bready. The fries (chips) were crispy and soft. My group enjoyed their meals as well and they looked good. Bath has lots of eateries and shops. If you're going to the Roman Baths or are in the main area, Crystal Palace is a nice spot to stop in for a bite or drink. They're located off Abbey Green near the courtyard.
