We were only in Bath for one cold, rainy night, and looking for a cozy place to have a pint and maybe a warm drink - let me tell you they don't get much cozier than this! The bar is tiny (4 stools) and the adjacent lounge isn't much bigger (look for the door to the left of the bar door) but the atmosphere is incredible. We were greeted by the owner and within minutes felt like everyone in the bar (there weren't that many of us) had been our friends for years. Great beers on tap, as well as excellent liquors - we warmed up with some of the most delicious hot toddy and mulled wine we've ever had. Unfortunately the kitchen was closed, so we had to go elsewhere for food, but it was still worth the time spent. If you're in Bath and looking for an inviting proper British pub, I can't recommend it highly enough. Will definitely come back next time we're in the area! read more

First class old pub. Small like most of the good ones are. On Sunday they just had Sunday Roast: Roast Beef Chicken Vegetarian. I caved in and had the classic Roast Beef and a local ale that was just perfect with the food. It was a lovely crowd on a rainy Sunday in Bath. My husband and I went for beers today. There was a good assortment of choices. There was no food there, however.

A great little pub. My husband and I had just gone to the Roman bath house and were trying to get some good food and beer away from all the other tourists...heh. Fortunately we found this gem tucked away. We sat in a corner and enjoyed good beer and good food. He had a manly meaty potato thing that he loved and I had something with potatoes sans meat. It's been a couple years since we've been but so memorable was the food and beer as well as atmosphere that I had to dawdle back by and review it. If I remember right they sell the local Trappist beer too which is always a great route to go :) read more

Me and bf are big fan of good ciders. It's hard to find good ciders (or ciders at all) at regular American pubs, so when we were visiting London we really wanted to try some of the ciders. This place is easily on my top 5 bar list in the world. It's not fancy, big, or have some special cocktail list. It's just the definition of an old English pub and it's fantastic. There's plenty of regulars and they have a good rotation of local beers plus the typical assortment booze. I've never had their food but the menu always looks great. If youre into the traditional summertime Pimms cup they do them with fresh fruit which is also really nice. Despite being small and 300 years old (1700s) there's a fair amount of seating although if you do want to stand that's probably the most limited for space. Unfortunately you can't take your drinks outside so if they're busy be ready to be a little close to fellow patrons. The Green Tree while a bit of a challenge to find, it's a great place to chat with locals and grab a pint. They don't serve lunch on Sundays but they do offer roasted rosemary potatoes for free to nibble on. I was a solo traveler, so finding a spot to sit wasn't such a challenge. I recommend for couples and more to check out the side rooms for seating. I also recommend checking the walls in the bar and side rooms to see the beer menu. I'm used to ABV 5-9% and I had ask the locals what they drink, it appears 3.9-4.5%... I not sure if that's true for the whole of Bath but that has been my interpretation. So, if you're a stronger drinker, check the menu first to get your appropriate buzz. As for ambience, it's friendly and cozy. It seems like a place you'd see all sorts on Sunday from Grannies to sharp young things. If I had more time in Bath, I would definitely come back. read more

What a lucky find when we took a small street off a main street. Confirmed with yelp and we were set! Tiny front room, four tables, friendly diners, good looking food. I enjoyed the cold crisp cider they had on tap and bf liked their house ale. Celery Stilton soup was delish and the fresh bread and butter was very good, lovely salad on the side of every sandwich. This was a great place for beer and lunch in Bath. Very friendly owner and excellent beer, in particular the pale ale called 'Pitchfork'. The ploughman's lunch was huge -I got it with cheddar and Stilton: 4 generous pieces of cheese with crusty farmhouse bread, the biggest pickled onion I've ever seen, greens, relish, picalilly and more. We ended up going to The Old Green Tree three times on our two day trip to Bath. The first time, we were looking for a pub lunch and decided to give it a try. The soup and sandwich offerings we both had were really good -- sandwiches with great bread and quality ingredients, and tasty soup. The other two times we were there to have a drink. They had a good choice of craft beer to select from. It's a friendly place with a small bar and two rooms -- one in front and one in back. This is one of the smallest pubs I have ever visited. It is very cozy and the bar tender is very friendly. It might be small, but they carry a large variety of rotating craft beers. We stopped in for a drink before dinner and thoroughly enjoyed our time. I will stop in again the next time I am in Bath. read more

Even at the relatively young age of 30, I've been to many pubs and bars. But I've never experienced such warmth and friendliness the first time around! The man behind the bar, Douglas, was busy entertaining one of the regulars but still found time to tell me about the local ciders that they had on tap that day. The regular, Allan, ended up entertaining me. We joked around a bit while I thoroughly enjoyed my cider and Douglas' beautiful voice (seriously, he should be doing voiceovers or something). I had a half pint each of Honey's Midford and Ashton Press, as well as a bottle of Honey's Stoney Bank. They were all great but I liked the latter best, with a heady cloud of ginger that tickled my nose with each drink. While I was there I watched as Douglas welcomed each tourist and local with the same friendliness he showed me. I was devastated to leave! I wish there was a place like this in Copenhagen but I have a feeling it's rare anywhere. read more

Love this small, narrow little pub to bits. Fantastic selection of real ale, suitably arranged at bar as optics run in order of alcoholic strength. Price of a pint is reasonable compared to choice available. Good selection of malt whiskey behind bar too. This is actually the oldest pub in bath and has preserved that olde worlde charm. Locals & bar staff are very friendly.Bar food is excellent and can higky recommend the door stop sandwiches ! read more

The landlord and staff are wonderful, polite and attentive. Blindmans brewery brew a house ale especially for them it is such a nice pub! Excellent luchtime food too.
