We were initially attracted to them precisely because they operate as a team - as my dad once told me "a marriage counselor either takes sides or is ineffective". The very first time we met, one of the first things they told us was that they had no idea whether or not they could save our relationship (nor whether it was worth saving), but that if we worked with them, we would understand what went wrong - and help to ensure we didn't make the same mistakes in the future. One of the first exercises they offered to us was a list of questions to ask your partner BEFORE getting married - most of the items (which dealt with very basic beliefs) had never occurred to us, but were clearly important to determining whether or not there was a fundamental incompatibility with your partner. This exercise alone, if taught to people embarking on their first mature relationships, would eliminate a phenomenal degree of heartbreak in the world. As other reviewers have mentioned, Douglas and Olivia are a joy to speak with (sessions only rarely "feel like counselling"). Their manner and personalities encourage open and honest communication, and facilitate difficult or sensitive discussions to a frankly amazing degree. Whether or not they can help salvage your relationship, you will be a better partner (and person in general) after working with them.

It was such a joy to work with this wonderful couple who brought a deep intelligence, compassion and hope into our lives, while teaching us how to understand ourselves and each other better, in order to interact more harmoniously. They inspired us to learn more about how we each live in the world and we experienced a lot of personal growth quickly. We thoroughly enjoyed our sessions with them immensely because they were able to make the work fun. We could laugh at ourselves in a non-judgmental way, and learn to make better choices. They communicated so well as to the "issues" and helped us discover the way to make needed changes, painlessly. The whole experience was completely enlightening and I highly recommend them to any couple or individual in need of creating a better relationship with a spouse or significant other and/or having healthier/more profound relationships with others and even themselves -- You cannot help but experience deep personal growth in the process. Since working with them, we have continued along that path to better self awareness/understanding and have sustained healthier interactions overall. They provided us with some great tools, strategies, information to use all the time. If you are looking for a way through an unhealthy and/or unhappy relationship, or relationships, or just want to understand yourself better and why people react to you as they do or why you react the way you do, you owe it to yourself to contact Douglas and Olivia!

About a year ago, my spouse and I spent nearly $3,000 on couples counseling with Estee. When the…read morecounseling ended, I actually believed it had been helpful, because I had come to believe that our marital problems were almost entirely my fault. However, over the following year, I gradually realized that our marriage had not meaningfully improved despite the counseling. One of the strongest messages I took away from the sessions was that my family of origin and my relationship with my parents were the primary causes of our marital problems. This did not only lead me to feel guilty and blame myself; it also caused me to blame my family and my parents. The emotional impact became so significant that I eventually sought individual therapy to work through those feelings. I believe Estee genuinely wanted to help us, and I do not question her intentions. However, her approach was not effective for me and maybe someone else has similar background like me. If you come from an East Asian family and place great importance on your relationship with your parents and family of origin, I would encourage you to consider carefully whether this counseling approach is the right fit for you. Different therapists have different perspectives, and this particular approach was not a good match for my background or my needs. Finally, I respectfully ask that Estee not contact me regarding this review. I have worked hard to recover from the guilt, self-blame, and family-related conflict that I experienced after counseling, and I do not wish to revisit those feelings through further discussion.

Erin is one of those rare souls who has found her life's work in psychotherapy and is doing it as a labor of love. Of course Erin charges money for her time, and her time is worth every penny she charges. But it's not a job to Erin - it's a calling. She is generous to a fault, skillful, honest, and trustworthy. Erin's expertise and professionalism as a therapist, combined with her considerable natural ability as a listener, confidant, and truly concerned person-in-your-corner, make her counseling nothing short of superb. Over the years I've found that therapists are mostly well-meaning but mediocre. Erin, however, is a champ. 99th percentile. At the very top, among the best of the best, in my experience. Time spent hunting for the right therapist is often time wasted, at best; but you won't waste time or energy with Erin. Personal fit between therapist and client critical, though it's impossible to predict. If Erin's not the right person for the job, she likely knows who is, or can give you reliable guidance and direction in your search. The benefit that I, my wife and daughter, and our entire family have gained from our association with Erin Anderson is profound, substantial, long-lasting, and extremely valuable. Thanks to Erin's hand-holding, careful advice, attentive listening ear, her faith in us, and her ability to see the big picture, we've dodged many a pothole in the various roads we've trod as a couple and as a family. You can do it. Erin can help. Thank you, Erin, for everything!
