Jitsu Has Truly Transformed My Daughter's Confidence Choosing Jitsu for my daughter was intentional. They prepare her for every competition with patience, discipline, and unwavering belief in her. I have been training at Warrior Jiu Jitsu Castro Valley for about 6 months, with prior experiences (very much on and off) for about 8 years and at four different gyms; switching due to relocation the first three times, and this last time due to life events and having Warrior's schedule being one of the only local gyms that I was able to make work, in order to get back on the mats. I can only speak to the morning classes as I have yet to attend an evening class. I knew the type of gym I wanted for the type of training that I do: Safe, fun, technical, and one that did not have funnels to extract every dollar out of you. There are no paid belt tests. A good gauge of how good a martial arts class is will come from your kids' experience. I wanted to have my kids join BJJ for a long time but they were too young and hesitant. Now at the age of 8 (son) and 10 (daughter), I finally convinced them to join when we heard of Warrior BJJ opening up in CV. They were still very hesitant and on the first day of class they really didn't want to go. Well that all changed after just one class with Coach Jorge. They couldn't stop talking about it on the drive home and wanted to come back for more. Jorge has a way with kids that makes them feel comfortable and confident. He, by no means, is taken for granted by the kids as he runs a tight ship and expects respect and obedience from all his students. I recommend all parents to come and check out Warrior BJJ for their kids as they have a free 3 class trial. As for adults, it's also a great place to train and learn. As a beginner, I have been to two different BJJ academies where they seemed to cater to the higher belts. As a white belt I felt lost and confused as to what to do. The moves demonstrated were too advanced. Jorge focuses on building a foundation with basics while emphasizing safety. I feel I have advanced more in a few weeks than I had in a few months at other locations. I recommend this place for those interested in BJJ or a great workout. read more

First I want to start with the exterior of the establishment. Getting there is not difficult at all, there is not much traffic getting there or leaving and parking is plenty. The gym has an open, luxurious and clean feel because of the surrounding tall windows. The bathroom, dressing room and the entire interior of the gym is well maintained. I have seen Jorge and Chris clean the mat every night that I have been to class and the borrowed gi s were taken home to be washed. Cleanliness being an important factor in a gym, is a luxury! The kids that take classes there are always engaged, participating and respectful. In the adult class everyone is friendly and helpful. Jorge is very devoted to his students. He makes sure everyone understands by repeating the technique several times and explaining it step by step. If he notices that a good amount of students did not grasp the technique he will call everyone back to a circle and demonstrate again. He ensures that every student can fully grasp and demonstrate the technique before class is over. Overall I feel very fortunate that we are part of the beginnings of this gym and I am excited to see and be part of its growth. read more

This business discriminates against children with disabilities. We took our son to observe a class last week talked to the instructor about his disability. My son came to his first class with excitement and confidence. He left crying and his spirit and self esteem crushed by the instructor. After they had him dress they told him to get off the mat with his crutches because they have germs. While they allowed a little boy to run around coughing on everyone and everything. I 100% do not recommend this school to anyone. Don't allow your child to be there next victim. read more

When I walked into the location I had flashbacks of the original Karate Kid movie scene when Daniel walks into the dojo and well hopefully you know the rest. This place, I have to say, is amazing. My son and daughter (5 and 7) have been going to Warrior Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for about two weeks now and they absolutely love it! I was reluctant at first to take them to a Brazilan Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) school because I there is a lot of grappling like in wrestling and I thought they would be too young for that. However, I took the leap of faith and did the free trial classes (I think 3 are included free) and found that even a child at the young age of 5 can effectively learn BJJ. Their instructor Jorge is great with kids and does a great job at making the BJJ classes not only instructional but also fun! Other things to note. - Flexibility/lots of classes: there are kids classes everyday during the weekdays Monday - Friday. - Parking: this school is located in a relatively quiet strip mall along Castro Valley Blvd so parking directly in front of the school is easy and convenient. - It appears that there is another Warrior Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school in San Ramon. I wanted my daughter to try BJJ not only to learn to defend herself but to learn how it is to push herself when she gets tired and when things get difficult. Knowing that there was a potential for her to not like it, I was thankful that they offer 3 free sessions when you start. She was a bit tired in the beginning warm-ups but Jorge knows how to keep it fun and interesting for the kids, and she was right back in there. He's aware that the kids have short attention spans and structures the class based on how the kids are doing that day. Such a wonderful place for people of all ages. My 6 year old daughter has attended class here for a little over a year. Although initially a little scared and nervous, she has competed once and is preparing for her second competition now. Coach Jorge is very patient and so good with the kids. My son has been attending Warrior Brazilian Jui Jujitsu since around the time the Castro Valley location opened and he thoroughly enjoys it! The owner, Jorge, is the kindest and most patient person and just fantastic with the kids! He's very knowledgeable and is very age-appropriate with the training. My son has learned a lot and has formed a really solid foundation so far. We have attended both the 5 - 7 age group as well as the 8 - 12 class (which we made the switch soon after my son turned 8). Jorge weaves in the necessary tactics with a lot of fun. For example, he details the moves and then the kids practice with close supervision and they are typically paired with a child of the same size. If they need more attention, Jorge or his assistant will spend more 1:1 time going over the moves. At the very end of class they typically play a fun game ("bull dog") which is great to see the kids just let loose. The location is very clean and organized, and there's a lot a lot of seating for the parents and siblings. I love how the schedule is very flexible as many of us are juggling many activities. Parking is also a HUGE plus as there is plenty. I highly recommended Warrior BJJ to anyone...and you have nothing to lose with the 3 day trial! read more
