Long overdue review! We had the pleasure of having Alex & Jana photograph our wedding in October and we could not be happier with our decision. I reached out to them with an online inquiry and they got back with me immediately. From the get go, the process was SO seamless. Covid bride here! We were engaged in 2019, and our first major decision was booking Alex from Alex and Jana Photography. Photos were a top priority, so I knew I needed to act fast. Alex was the photographer at a friend's wedding earlier that year. After their recommendation and a phone call with Alex, I knew we found our photographer. Then came Covid. After postponements and cancellations, Alex stayed by our side. He was beyond professional throughout the process, especially as we all navigated through the pandemic. Our engagement photos were taken at Palomar Mountain. It was a beautiful winter day with snow on the ground too. So surreal. I cannot say enough terrific things about Alex and Jana. After the first meeting, I knew I met the photographer for my day. Alex is such a calming individual, as I rambled on an on Alex took notes and was so encouraging. In the months leading up to the wedding, I was a basket case, I was forgetting things. My wife and I couldn't be happier with the experience we had working with Alex and Jana. We had initially booked Alex to shoot our engagement photos in June 2019. Throughout the entire process Alex was very responsive and willing to work with us at every step. We had first planned for photos at the San Juan Capistrano Mission, but because they closed early in the day, Alex suggested that we look for another location in order to catch the sunset. We ended up shooting the photos at Balboa Park. Alex was familiar with the location so he knew where and when to start. My wife and I were very happy with how the photos turned out. Regarding our wedding (July 2020), they were very flexible with us given the situation with COVID. We had initially planned for 1 photographer for 8 hours. Since my wife and I couldn't have a reception, we no longer needed an 8 hour photographer. We explained our situation to Alex and he was kind enough to draft up another contract of 2 photographers for 4 hours each - without charging any additional fees or penalties. I thought this was really nice of them since it was one less thing to worry about, given the situation with the pandemic. We ended up receiving the photos within one month of the ceremony and were very pleased with how they turned out. We reached out to Alex and Jana somewhat last minute by wedding standards (three months before) and are so, so grateful they were available on our day. Alex was very responsive to our first inquiry and from the very first conversation, which included lots of common interests and shared photography philosophies, we knew we had found a match. We wanted a photographer that would focus on the natural and candid moments, but also be assertive enough to guide and direct people if faces were being blocked or stray hairs were everywhere. Alex and Jana were exactly that! All of the preparation before the wedding was easy and simple, and we found their pricing incredibly reasonable for the value of the experience and the quality of the photographs we received after. As non-wedding people, they were particularly great at helping us navigate the more traditional elements of wedding and whether we wanted them. We were not that into the idea of a "first look," or "getting ready" photos, but Alex and Jana helped explain that regardless of whether we capture it, there will always be great moments where you see each other for the first time, or are with the people you love helping you, and those can be captured without feeling overly staged.
