They quoted me over 350kr without even looking at my bike and sent me away. Turns out, I have a special type of tire that they don't carry so they weren't able to service my bike. I came to Islands Brygge Cykler for a second opinion and what I got was an honest opinion and great service. The gentleman there actually looked at my tire and personally plucked out the tiny shards of glass that were stuck in my wheel and upon his inspection, stated that it didn't need replacement. He installed a new tube for me right then and there. He even showed me some potential problem areas with wear/drying on my tires but assured me that I'd be fine for the time being but would eventually need replacement in the future. I really appreciated his honesty and he was super duper nice as well. I will definitely return to them if I have any more repairs and recommend them to friends/family!

The prices also seemed extremely reasonable. (Roughly $10 for a standard bike for 6 hours.) Let me say upfront that biking Copenhagen was SO FUN and I highly recommend it. But our experience in the store itself, while satisfactory, was a bit chaotic and underwhelming. When we walked in, no one really greeted us and it wasn't clear where to go or what to do. We approached the girl behind the counter and asked if we could rent a bike. Even though there were tons of bikes all around the shop, she looked out back and said, "You have to wait a few minutes." Um, OK. After an awkward pause, she gave us a form to fill out. We did so. When we were done, she took our (US) credit card to pre-pay, and told us to go out back and pick our bikes. She explained that there were 3 levels (budget, standard, and something else I don't remember) and how to identify the bike type by sticker color. In the patio area where we had been directed, there were about 6-8 bikes to choose from. Slim pickings, perhaps because it was a Saturday afternoon and a beautiful sunny day. There were no budget bikes left, but we found two standard bikes that looked nice and took them over to the girl. We recorded the bike numbers and she gave us keys to unlock them. That was it. Having never done anything like this before, we felt under-prepared and asked her to explain the basic hand signals and etiquette. She went over a couple things but basically indicated we would be fine regardless. She did suggest a nice path for us to take (again, very convenient to this location, going along the river). Unfortunately, when we actually got ON the bikes, we realized they were not going to work for us. Seats too high and such. We asked her to adjust, but she couldn't (due to some of the equipment being stuck) so we actually had to switch to two completely different bikes. The whole process took about 30 min, which was longer than I expected. Also, IMO, when you go to a bike rental shop as a tourist, there really ought to be someone guiding you through the process much more clearly than this. But whatever, we got it sorted, took our bikes, and went off through Copenhagen. It was FANTASTIC. Because the city has such great bike lanes -- and because we had GPS on our phones -- we were able to see several different neighborhoods and stop at Freetown Christiania, the Black Diamond, and the Dome of Visions all in the span of a couple hours. The bike seats were VERY hard and uncomfortable. I felt bruised for a couple days afterward. But my guess is that most/all rental bikes will be this way? I dunno. The bike locks worked great and allowed us to feel comfortable stopping a few times and leaving our bikes while we walked around. Also, the brakes and bells worked well, which was handy. I don't know anything about bike gears, except that my bike was initially on a gear that made it quite effort-ful to use, so I had to fiddle with the gears until I got to the easiest one. (Again, something that it would have been nice for Baisikeli to explain and/or fix for me before I left.) When we were done, returning the bikes was super easy. Just lock up, hand the girl the keys, and head out. In all, I would have liked more guidance and a softer bike seat, but the low cost and convenience -- as well as the fabulous time we had biking the city -- made this A-OK.

The shop employees were helpful and willing to make any needed adjustments. Prices seemed reasonable at 60 kr per day. The bikes came with combination chain locks and they had no problem with us dropping them off after hours.

The main problem was getting in connection with customer service. The chat feature through a bot with no human person was a waste of time. When I tried to call, I had to wait and ran out of minutes with my phone plan. I had to buy another pass until I got home to contact them again, 30 minutes wasted as they were not available for English agents . Before the incident: I bought a seven day pass which allows you to enter multiple times for total five hours for 99 Kronas. I especially like that you don't have to go to a docking station, but you can use the lock feature to park anywhere within a radius on the app. Only reason I give it five stars is the pass is slightly confusing to use. You must lock and cancel the ride, so it's two steps. Otherwise, you will have a continuous clock running, even if the bike is parked. Also to find the bike can be tricky. When there's multiple bikes each one has a name which you must match with the app. I think it'd be better to have a QR code, but not all of them do.

We spent 70 DKK each on a six-hour rental, and this was probably the best deal we got on anything in Copenhagen, where a hot dog and soda will set you back the same amount. I'm always turned off by anything that seems like it could be a pain in the ass, so believe me when I tell you that Donkey Republic is easy to figure out. You have to download an app, but once you do that, you can just go where bikes are available and rent from your phone, without ever talking to another person. You unlock and lock your bike from the app, which is even fun and kind of satisfying, and at the end of the day, you can drop off at one of their numerous locations and pay from your phone. We started our rental at 1:30 on a Tuesday afternoon, and rode from the city center to Nørrebro, where we had lunch, then through Østerbro, Frederiksberg, and Vesterbro, hitting up parks, The Cisterns, and the original Mikkeller Bar before heading back to our hotel at 7:30. We got to explore a lot of Copenhagen in one day, and the bike ride was essential to our sightseeing. I'm a slow, terrible biker, something Matt pointed out frequently on this day and after ("You wouldn't believe the people who were passing you"--a lot of old people and children, apparently), but I still had a tremendous time biking around the city.
